Mother and Daughter scheming ways.

Jennifer was seen heading to Nathaway mansion in her pink Porsche car gifted to her by the Chairman himself when she came to the mansion drenched like a lost fowl one evening.

Since she became the fiancee of the most eligible and richest bachelor, she has been showing off her exquisite lifestyle and intolerable attitude that constantly require extra work from the company's PR team to put down.

Immediately she set foot in the compound, the workers ran a helter-skelter to welcome the house lady, who is so popular in City A. She was seen stomping heavily into the mansion with high heels, shouting her Mom's name at the top of her voice.

She was aggravated when she requested to see Alexander at the company when he returned from his business trip. Unfortunately, he was not granted access despite the title she was holding. Alex asked the security to escort her out when she was causing an unnecessary scene.

“Mom, what do I do? Alex is not looking my way, it's as if I am not worth someone that he can relate with. My presence around him disgusts him and he doesn't even reverence me as his fiancee, even if we have been engaged for six years now.” Jennifer could not contain it anymore and laid all her troubles bluntly before her Mom.

Laura moved her daughter closer and patted her like a baby, thinking maybe it was time she interfered in the matter. She squinted her eyes and smiled while devising a scheme to help her daughter. They both left for Norway's mansion to visit the Chairman.

Alexander was in his office fuming with anger given the audacity Jennifer had to step her feet in the company. Ever since he had been engaged to her he has not tolerated her presence around, she disgusted him to the bone marrow. The Chairman has made several efforts to coerce him to tolerate her, he has in turn threatened to leave the company if he would not be allowed to do things his way. Stating some of her behaviors that tarnished his image out there which the Chairman himself is aware of.

Alexander hates relating with ladies in corporate affairs or being caught up in a ladies affair, he would rather send his P.A to liaise on his behalf if there is a need for his company to collaborate with any of them not to talk of a useless and good-for-nothing Jennifer. He continued hissing out loud, his P. A who is familiar with his soaring mood has already excused himself to a corner.

“What audacity did she have to step into this company and create a scene?" Alex's mood has flared up now.

"Has the cat got your tongue?” transferring the aggression to his P. A.

"I don't know sir. I learned she sometimes has the backing of the Chairman.” He needed to sort things out himself to avoid unnecessary headaches later.

On reaching Norway's mansion, the workers welcome their future young lady and her mother. The housekeeper went upstairs to inform the Chairman that Miss Jennifer and the Mother were around to see him.

The Chairman is Seventy already and he is suffering from a weak heart, that is one of the reasons why he ordered his son to come from abroad and replace him as the President of the Company. He stood up weakly to attend to the mother and child.

The mother and child stood up to acknowledge the Chairman's presence. The Chairman gestured to them to sit, and he could see that the faces he was staring at, were displeased. He knows it will have something to do with Alexander.

“Ms. Lakehood, what's the matter?"

“After my daughter had a one-night stand with your son, did she not wish to pursue the matter and decided to keep mute about it and consider it a mistake but instead Mr Alexander decided to pursue her. He engaged her, put her on false hope, and made her a laughing stock in City A. Since they have been engaged, he has never acknowledged her. Let him come and say what the problem is, she will work on herself."

Jennifer was almost shedding tears while her mother was talking, the Chairman pleaded with her to calm down. He told them he would speak to his son and feed them back with his response. Immediately they left and the Chairman dialed Alex's number.

Alex's phone was beeping nearby, he could not help but curse at the caller for calling during this turmoil. He hissed when he sighted the caller, speaking of the devil's incarnate.

After getting across severally, his son decided to pick up his call. He could not berate his stubborn son.

“Why do you keep me waiting before you decide to pick calls, blockhead?"

“I was in a meeting, all other matters should wait until later. Am hanging up, I am busy."

“You dare not hang up on me until I am done with you." The Chairman said sharply, almost cursing at his blockhead son.

“I want you in the mansion this evening when returning from work. Try to meet up for dinner."

“I will be late, don't wait for me," Alexander replied without emotion.

He hung up immediately, the Chairman has not been pleased with Alex's attitude towards the family matter. He sighed heavily while facing his wife, who is Alex's stepmother.

Late in the evening, Alex stopped by Norway's mansion to see his father. He entered and climbed the stairs to meet his father in his study room.

“You are welcome, Alex." said his Step- mum while acknowledging his presence. The very reason why he avoided this mansion is like a plaque. He found it difficult to accept her, ever since his mother died mysteriously.

He nodded and walked by, with no emotions in his eyes. He arrived at his father's study room, the Chairman was spotted taking his routine drugs to help his weak heart, sooner or later he was going to have surgery but his life guarantee is not too sure.

“When are you having your surgery?" asked Alex.

"Since when are you concerned about my health?” Mr Norway mentioned bluntly.

“Stop acting like you know me, you know I don't have that relationship with you because I was deprived of it since a child. Business is what makes us come together.” Mr Norway could not deny this fact and his son is bringing it to face for the first time, it's one of the regrets he wished he had averted. He felt ashamed somehow.

“Why do you invite me here?” He does not want to waste time beating vehemently about the bush.

“Go and treat your fiance the best way partners should be cared for, give her necessary attention remember you defiled her. It's not good enough to neglect her thereafter."

"Is that all?” he said with apathy.

“When do you have it in mind to settle down? Your stepbrother is doing fine with his family. When will you be ready to set up yours?"

“I don't have time for family matters now, father. If you will excuse me, I still have a business to attend to tonight." he left after he had bid farewell to his father.

While in the car, Alex ruminates on the investigation he had carried out on the chain he still held for 10 years. That night still looked vivid to him, he could not forget it. He realized the owner of the chain was one wealthy heiress and she gave it to her daughter before her demise, he also learned that Laura was the girl's stepmother.

He had searched everywhere for the girl with the sweet scent, but he could not locate her still. He wondered where she could be, even the stepmother and step-sister didn't bother to know her whereabouts either.

Unknown to Jennifer and her mother, Alexander had caught them in their lies. He remained focused on discovering the lady first before spilling the beans. The chain is his most prized possession now until the girl shows up to claim it and his heart too.
