Suspicion

"Jennifer!" Laura said quickly. She tried to take the necklace from Alexander but he stopped her. "Mom!" Jennifer stared at her mom, she had no idea what her mother was up to now. That necklace belongs to her sister Hazel and not her. "Isn't this the necklace I got for you for your birthday? How can you misplace it like this? You should be grateful to Mr Norway for finding it, he even came all the way to return it." Laura said, winking at Jennifer. Jennifer understood her mother wanted her to play along. "I'm sorry Mom, I lost the necklace and didn't know how to tell it to you," Jennifer said. "Thank you so much Mr Norway, you are so kind-hearted," Laura said and bowed her head. Seeing what her mother did, Jennifer did the same. "So you are saying, you are the one I spent the night with?" Alexander asked and Laura nodded her head vehemently. "Yes Mr Norway, she's the one. She told me about it, I promise you my daughter is not wayward. It just so happened to be an accident last night." Laura said with so much excitement, that she couldn't believe Hazel spent the night with the richest billionaire in the country. "I'm sure your daughter has a mouth, and she can speak for herself," Alex said and Laura quickly shut her mouth. "I'm sorry, please forgive me, Mr Norway. Come on Jennifer, don't be shy. Tell Mr Norway all that happened last night." Laura said to her. "Well you see Mr Norway, I didn't..." Jennifer wanted to say something but Alexander cut her off. "Save it, I'm not interested in anything you have to say," Alexander said he's not interested in anything she has to say. There's something off about these two women in front of him. But he can't seem to place a finger on it, the scent from the necklace is very different. "Are you sure we are at the right address?" Alexander asked, turning to Dennis. "Yes Mr president, I did a very proper investigation. This is the address of the lady you spent the night with last night." Dennis said with his head bowed but Alexander didn't seem to be convinced yet. "Please come to your seat, we already sent a bottle of wine just for you," Laura said, trying to convince him, that she could see Mr Norway had some doubts. But he doesn't seem to know who he's looking for. That's where they have the advantage, there's no way she will allow Hazel to be with Mr. Norway instead of her daughter. "What wine can you possibly offer me?" Alexander scoffed, he then turned to walk away. There's no way he's getting married to that girl. She looks beautiful in her way but he doesn't like her. He will have to say something to his father. But then he thought again, maybe he should stay for a short while. He might see the girl he's looking for, but he's more than convinced that Jennifer is not the one he's looking for. "On second thought, I think I should stay." A few glasses won't hurt right?" Alexander said and Laura felt like jumping out of her body. This is the best day of their lives, she giggled happily as well as Jennifer. Meanwhile Hazel has been busy with cleaning and cooking in the kitchen. She's so tired and her body aches badly but she doesn't have any choice. "Hazel, take this to the sitting room and serve." The head maids came into the kitchen and ordered Hazel. She has been so belittled in the house, that even the maids speak to her anyhow. "Wine? Hazel was shocked, is there a visitor that demands them serving wine.” She asked thoughtfully. "Instead of standing here and asking me questions. You should hurry, there are very important guests here. You don't want to keep them waiting." The maid said and handed the tray over to her. "Really? I wonder who that is." Hazel said curiously, as she made her way to the sitting room. Alexander however has been scanning the entire house, hoping for the girl to come out. He can't stand being here anymore, these people make him feel a certain way. And he doesn't like it one bit, one more minute and he's out. "Mr President, your father would like to speak with you," Dennis said, and Alexander stood up to answer the call. His father probably wants to ask him some questions. Alexander took the phone and turned his back to answer the call. Hazel walked right into the sitting room with the tray in her hands. She dropped the tray and began to serve the wine. Immediately Laura saw Hazel, she panicked. She pulled Hazel and pinched her on the hand. "What are you doing here? Can't you see we have important guests? Get out of this place right now," Laura said and pulled her ears. Hazel walked out of the sitting room in a hurry, almost running off. She didn't even have the chance to see who the person was. Hazel got inside the kitchen and peeped from the door. She saw Alexander turn abruptly and her breath seized. Never in her life has she seen a man this handsome. He looks like some gods that dropped from the heavens. Hazel trailed her eyes down from his well-styled hair. Down to his face, oh gosh! Everything about him screams luxury. She can't see his face well enough but Lord! He's the prettiest man she has seen in her life. He looks rich judging from his appearance, no wonder the maid warned her the other time. "What are you doing peeping through the door?" The head maid tapped Hazel on the shoulder and she jumped up. "Oh goodness! You scared me, don't do that again. I was only checking something," Hazel complained. "Well you should be fast, you don't want Madam Laura coming here to meet with you. You will be in big trouble if she does," the chief maid said and Hazel nodded. The maid is right, she better hurry up. If not there will be no food for her tonight, she thought to herself. Alexander turned and was stunned, he could swear he smelled that scent again. The same one from the necklace, he looked around. But there was no one there, he saw the tray on the table and frowned. "Who brought this here?" Alexander asked and Laura became very perplexed. "Jennifer did," Laura lied. It's obvious Mr Norway doesn't believe a word she says, they will have to make him believe it. "Dennis, while I was on the call with my father. Did you see anyone bring anything here?" Alexander asked, and Dennis nodded his head. "No Mr President, I was listening to the conversation between you and the chairman. I didn't notice anyone come in or leave this sitting room." Dennis said, and Alexander felt frustrated. Laura was however happy, she just hoped Mr. Norway would drop the matter. "I see," Alexander said with a nod. "I will have one of the drivers of the Norway mansion pick you both up tonight. My father would like to see you," Alexander said and walked out of the door, with Dennis following after him. "What! Really!" Laura was shocked, she placed her hand on her cheek. She can't believe this, even though she's trying to maintain her composure. She's losing it, who wouldn't? Alexander didn't say anything in response, he just left with Dennis following after him. Laura and Jennifer followed him to the car, they just couldn't contain their joy. "Thank you so much Mr Norway, we are grateful," Laura said waving her hands but the car door slammed on her face. But she didn't mind, she stood there till Alexander's car was no longer in sight. "Mom!" Jennifer giggled happily, she hugged her mother. "This is the best thing that can ever happen to any human being. Come on, we have to go shopping. You have to wear the best dress to the Norway mansion. We can't let this opportunity pass us by." Laura said. "I can't believe Hazel spent the night with him, I bet she doesn't even know it," Jennifer said. "Who cares? As far as we are concerned, you are the one who spent the night with him. And nothing will ever change that, and be careful what you say around. We can't have Hazel know you switched with her, it can ruin our plans." Laura said and Jennifer nodded her head. "Okay Mom," Jennifer said, and they both walked back into the house. Later that night, Jennifer and her mother Laura dressed up elegantly to go to the Norway mansion. Hazel watched as the mother and child dressed up, she carried the tray on which Jennifer's drink was placed. So she has been in the room seeing all that has been going on. She wonders what's going on though, they both look like they are going somewhere really important. "Mom I'm ready now," Jennifer said, putting the last piece of jewelry on. "I'm here too, the car is here already. We should leave now, and you!" Laura said, turning to Hazel. She quickly straightened up, she wouldn't want Laura scolding and adding to her punishment. "I'm in such a good mood today, and you are a part of the reason. So I'm going to pardon you, you are no longer grounded. You can return to your normal working hours and of course. Eat as much as you like, Jennifer let's go." Laura said, walking majestically out the door with Jennifer following behind her. "What!" Hazel was so surprised, that it took her minutes to digest what she just heard. For all the years she has been living together with Laura. She has never pardoned her instead she gave her more punishments. She wondered what changed today. "Today is a good day," Hazel said in surprise. "This is good, I sneak to that hotel tonight and look for my necklace. After all, they are not home. And from the look of things, they won't be back anytime soon." Hazel said feeling so excited. Laura and Jennifer arrived at the Norway mansion, the driver opened the door and they both stepped out of the car. "Oh, my goodness Mom! This place is magnificent!" Jennifer exclaimed. "This is more than luxury, this is pure heaven. I can't believe we are here, we will need to take some pictures. I have to brag to those women at the club." Laura said. "If things go well there Jennifer, this will be our new home," Laura said, already fantasizing. "Really! We should hurry up then." Jennifer said and they both walked into the mansion with the head butler guiding them. "Welcome to the Norway mansion, it's so good to see my son's future wife. You look so beautiful, what family is yours?" Mr Norway asked and both Laura and Jennifer were all over the moon. Future wife? Did they hear him well? "The Lakewood family Mr Norway, we are so pleased to meet you too. Right, Jennifer?" Laura asked and she nodded her head. "Yes sir, good evening Mr Norway. I'm so happy to see you." Jennifer said she had to bite her tongue to stop herself from saying nonsense. "Lakewood family, I think I must have heard of them. Come here, let's go over to the dining room. I have a whole feast waiting for you, my son will be joining us soon." Mr Norway said and they both followed after him. Twenty minutes later, Alexander arrived at the Norway mansion. He didn't want to come but, his father threatened. He didn't have any other choice but to make it here. "That old man is always threatening me with the company," Alexander said, he can't let the company go. He worked too hard for that company. Alexander alighted from the car and walked inside the mansion. He stopped at the entrance of the door to say something to Dennis. "Dennis, while we are here. Have men sent to the Lakewood house, and search each and everyone in that house. Capture their data and bring them to me. I don't think the woman I spent the night with is the one we saw this morning. See to it yourself," Alexander said. "Yes Mr president," Dennis bowed his head.
