Chapter 24 After we left Melissa’s with Uncle Charlie’s items in tow, we headed to the business district where the police headquarters sat. We asked for Diana and were told to wait in the lobby. It was obvious that the summer’s slow pace had reached even here. I could hear the murmur of voices from behind the desk, but we were the only ones in the waiting area. I gave a shiver of discomfort, but I wasn’t sure if it was from the uneasy feeling of being in the station, or the fact they had the air condition set so low. Diana came out to greet us, and I noticed she had a sweater on, and I had a sense of relief, realizing it wasn’t only me who was shivering.
