Teleportation was pretty successful, except that the user cannot determine the specific date and place of the teleportation. Hermes was in agony due to his friend's loss, but he could not just do nothing and cry at this moment.
'Where the heck am I?' Hermes questioned.
He was in a room, a room filled with computers and machines. While he tried to recall where he was at, footsteps toward the room were heard, and by instinct, Hermes pulled up a gun that he brought from the future, directing at the unopened door.
Knock, Knock.
Somebody was knocking at the door of the room. The tension of the room was maximal, and Hermes' heart pounded like a drum.
"Who is there?" Hermes quietly asked.
"What do you mean who is there? I got some fruits for you, by the way." a woman replied.
As soon as the woman opened the door, Hermes recognized where he was and who the woman was. It was the long lost mother and house of his. Hermes teared up.
"Hermes, is there something wrong? Why are you crying all out of a sudden?" mother asked.
"I'm fine. Let me have a moment of solidarity." Hermes responded.
"Okay, tell me if you feel like you are ready to tell me." mother smiled and left the room.
It was the Year 2020, the time when ordinary life was still prevailing. None of the creatures have appeared -- maybe soon enough -- but not at the moment. Everything was normal and the way that it was. Hermes looked out the window and saw the sights and noises of the existence of life. City lights of the dark and beepings of traffic cars. Both something that he hasn't heard for ages. The city was loud yet peaceful, compared to the loud and horrific creature from the year 2021.
Hermes suddenly recalled the reason why he was sent back to the past, to stop the extinction.
"What's the date today," Hermes asked himself, flipping over the calendar.
December 29, 2020. Exactly 100 days before the 'First Clash' between the creatures and humanity.
'I still got some time to resolve this extinction. Better be ready this time.' Hermes' eyes shone with determination.
Hermes started planning.
