Tap. Tap. Tap
Water drops tapped on the window glass, the force and velocity of these drops increased. It seems like the sky was crying.
And I sat there watching these drops sliding down my window glass. There is something about them so simple, but yet so unique which always calmed me down. It fascinated me how these drops slid down the glass and disappeared somewhere. I don't know why or how, but it still did.
But, today that wasn't happening. Something different was happening today, not in a good way either. These drops ain't calming me down, rather they were forcing me to think about things. Things I'm not ready to think about. Things like what my mom told me today. Things like a sudden vacation to Italy.
It isn't like I am against this vacation. No, I really want to go out of Devon, I've like spend each and every vacation of mine in Devon and I really wanna get the hell out of here. But the fact that they never went out of Devon and that this Italy visit is giving away some suspicious vibes was stopping me from packing my bags. Why Italy though? Why not somewhere near? We live in England, for god sake!
Tap. Tap. Tap
Drops kept on tapping on the glass. I was thinking hard, really hard about everything. So hard that even I was sure I will become a psychopath. I was thinking about those whispered conversations between mom and dad, about those sudden weird eye signs they will make whenever I was around. They thought I never saw those. I knew something was wrong. And I sure as hell will find out.
And no, vacationing isn't a problem, but this particular vacation is giving away some suspicious vibes and my instinct is telling me the same thing.
And again about those whispered conversations. It isn't like they never did those before, but my gut feeling is killing me. It's making me restless and restlessness is not my thing.
"Andrea, are you back from whichever planet you were visiting, or are you still there?" Came the voice of the great Palmora Fiscella, my mom. I turned to look at her, amusement clear on her face "No, if you wanna stay there then I will go. We can talk later too. " She turned back towards the door.
My mom is one strong woman. The most beautiful one too. Her blue eyes never showed sadness. They were always hopeful, they are always hopeful. I want to have that kind of optimism in me.
"I am back mom, so don't go." I decided to play along "You know mom I too wanted to talk about something." I was so ready to ask her about what's going on.
She chuckles "The same drill, the same drill. You always have questions to ask whenever I have something important to talk."
She moved closer to me with a tender expression on her face. She ruffled my hair. "When will you grow up, Andy? It's time Andy. You need to become serious." She sighed, sadness in her eyes. Just then I knew my assumptions were true. Something is wrong, really very wrong. "Even though we don't want to take away this innocence of yours away from you. But, we need you to become serious."
"Ah, ain't you too emotional, mom?" Keeping my hands on my waist, I puckered my lips, my eyebrows drew together forming a crease between them. "I've become serious okay." Rolling my eyes I looked back at her. She gave me 'Oh really' look. "You don't believe me! Okay, look at me then. Mom why don't you tell me about those conversations you and dad had behind my back. See straight to the point. I know how to be serious. Answer me now."
Aha! Just the right way to ask her. I am just so brilliant sometimes. Might as well give myself a tap on the back, maybe a mental tap.
My mental blabbering never stopped me from seeing how she paled after hearing me. It was as if she had seen some ghost or more like heard some ghost. "What happened, mom? Are you okay? Your face became...... Uh, bloodless suddenly."
Nice choice of words Andrea. Bloodless really?
"No, I am okay. It's just that I just remembered something." Her lips curved up giving me a smile, but a hesitant one as she continued "I will come back, later on, to talk as you won't be leaving your room anytime soon."
Does she really think I am a fool or something? Will I let her leave so easily? I will get my answers even if it costs me taking my ass out of this room. It will be hard for a bed potato like me, but humour aside, I need answers and the whatever is going on is a real s**t, I can feel that.
"Nah, you stay here and answer me or I will go with you, so you can do your 'important work' while giving me my answers." I stopped trying to examine her expression.
"I don't know what you're talking about. What answers do you need?" She looked at me, annoyed. Her mood swing was a sudden. It took a whole three sixty degrees rotation. Like from joyous to furious. "What answers do you need? Tell me, Andrea!"
I've never seen her so... I don't know, helpless. Her blue eyes showed her sorrow and she looked weak. I have never seen her so weak. Too weak to even cry. Her mood swings were confusing me more.
"You know we are helpless. We can't do anything, we can't even protect what's ours." She sighed closing her eyes, her voice cracking at the end "What helpless little things we are." A humourless chuckle came out of her mouth.
I didn't understand what's happening right now. It was all so confusing. I should just console her right now. I will demand answers later on when dad will be near.
"What's happening here?" Came dad's voice. He was looking at us with a confused expression.
My dad was a handsome man in his late forties. His eyes were a mixture of black and grey. The best thing about his eyes was, they never hid his emotions. Those eyes made him a book easy to read. Dad still had a head covered with black hairs, styled in s neat manner.
"Illidio, now she's demanding answers now. I think its time for her to know everything." As mom said those, dad seemed to realize something. "The more we hide the more we will complicate things for her. Being her mother I am saying this. But, I am unable to answer her questions. I... I can't seem to do so." she took a deep breath. "Being her father you can do this at least. Please."
