Chapter 51

“I wanted to give him my virginity when I was 18.” Dawn cried. “Well, at least you know better now. Instead of being 18 and then learning the truth.” Derek said. Dawn nodded. Dawn was crying still but Lucas grabbed her a tissue and she blew her nose. There was a knock on the door and Wendy walked in. “Hey Wendy.” Dawn cried. “Dawn, what’s wrong sweetie?” Wendy asked. “Someone drugged her, she only drank Pepsi max and they gave her a spiked creaming soda which she’d only drink to not be rude. Then she stripped on the roof and jumped in the pool. We figured we should call to be safe, and now she has a high temp.” Patrick said. “You did the right thing. Come on darling. I will get you checked.” Wendy said. “I will be there soon.” Patrick said. Wendy nodded and helped Dawn to the ambulance. She was handed Dawn’s clothes. Wendy comforted Dawn as she told him how Jessie moved on from her already. Wendy held her close like a mother would and gently rubbed her back while shushing her in a comfort way. Dawn cried into her lap. Even Brick, Wendy’s colleague was feeling sympathy for Dawn as he heard Dawn cry and explain it. Patrick arrived to her in a bed, they pumped her stomach and he walked in to hold her hand. Dawn smiled as she saw Patrick. “Patrick, can we talk?” Wendy asked. Patrick nodded. “I’ll be back okay.” Patrick said. Dawn nodded. Patrick walked to the nurse away from Dawn. “To sum it up, in the not so medical terms.” Wendy said. She sighed and opened the file in front of Patrick. “Dawn was given a few different drugs. There was hemp, roofies and she was given a strong dose of a sleeping pill. She’s still awake which means either her adrenaline was fighting it, or somehow her body knew she was under attack and she was fighting it off without knowing. The fever was caused with the mixture of them together. It was fighting her immune system. If you didn’t get her here when you did, the pressure would have caused her heart to give out in a matter of a few hours. She needs to stay for observation. But she will be okay. You should let your dad know.” Wendy said. Patrick nodded. Patrick pulled out his phone and called his dad explaining everything. He then felt obligated to let Jessie know she would have died if they didn’t treat her when they did. He warned Jessie to stay away from her and said he was going to block Jessie’s number for breaking Dawn’s heart. Patrick then used Dawn’s phone to block Jessie’s number as well. When Dawn turned 16, she was still a senior, she was more relieved she didn’t have to worry about relationships again. She was doing more intimate s****l dances publicly and refused to accept food and drinks from anyone. She graduated and was valedictorian. Her speech involved some hilarious photos of the year and videos behind her. But her speech reached out to them first. “Well, all I can say is it’s been a very interesting year. We have been through a lot. And got away with so much shit.” Dawn started saying. A video of them at a home game where they mooned the opposing team. “Like how did we not get in trouble for this?” Dawn asked. The students laughed but the principal stood up. “Because we didn’t know.” The principal laughed. “Well, no time like the present right.” Dawn joked. They burst into laughter. “And the funny antics and pranks we had on each other.” Dawn said. The video showed them dancing in the school bus after a game. Dawn was standing on two bus seats as people crawled under her, her pom pom handles tucked into the sides of her skirt and she was laughing and singing as everyone crawled under her and the cheerleaders behind her. There were videos of the water bombs, the food throwing, the iced cupcakes thrown into people’s faces. There was playful mud wrestling with a lot of them. There was a video of Dawn hanging upside down in the tree with Scott. The person recording came closer and asked what they were doing and they said they were a bat. The students laughed at that. There were videos of them pranking the teachers and a laugh escaped everyone’s lips. There was one where Dawn sat on a teacher’s desk when they left the room. She pointed her finger pretending to scold the students. The teacher came in pointing at Dawn and Dawn laughed saying she resembled the teacher so well. The teacher laughed at her then. Then Dawn spoke into the microphone again. “Who knows where our lives are going to take us, but we have the memories of our years in school. Our friendships to focus on. And even if we lose contact for a while, we will never lose our friendship or our bond. I love each and every one of you guys.” Dawn said. The students awed her. “To quote my mother. Always be the light in other people’s darkness. If anyone ever just needs someone to talk to. I am available. It would be easier to use i********: to message though. But I am here for you all. Whether we are in college, chilling at home, running amuck, or even just tormenting our friends with more pranks.” Dawn laughed at the last part. They all laughed. “Always remember where you are, and who you are.” Dawn said. Then a slide show of photos came up and showed Dawn with all her friends at first, then it showed so many individuals. Photos of Dawn dancing in her cheerleading outfit with Scott from the team joining her on the field while Lucas took the photos. Dawn laughed at the memories as her friends stood up and all hugged her while she stood on stage. “Now I wish everyone a great enriching journey. And who knows where we end up. But where one of us goes, we all will be in their hearts. Today, and every other day. We will always have each other. Until our death and then beyond that.” Dawn said. Dawn pulled her friends close. Mark had recorded her whole speech. Patrick was next to him taking photos and then clapping with everyone else as Dawn hugged her friends on stage. They walked up for their graduation certificates. “Dawn Rivers, the youngest girl to graduate and at the top of her class. We have a special surprise for you.” The principal said. Dawn hesitated. “To the girl who did everything, got involved in every activity and helped so many on her way. We never stopped paying attention. Through your trials and your life. The assault from Mr Leving twice, and being a hero to people at the carnival last year. Being an exceptional student, always cheering others on and always putting others first and making people laugh. We decided to go overboard and give you these as a thank you.” The principal said.
