Chapter 13

436 Words
Chapter 13 – The Truth Revealed Three days passed. The executive floor of Blackwood Technologies felt empty without Amelia. Her desk remained untouched. The flowers she had cared for were beginning to wilt, and the silence in the office was impossible to ignore. Even the employees who had doubted her began to realize how much she had contributed. Sophie sighed as she looked at Amelia's empty chair. "It just doesn't feel the same anymore." Ethan buried himself in work, but nothing could distract him. He missed Amelia's cheerful greetings. He missed her thoughtful ideas. Most of all, he missed her. One afternoon, Daniel Brooks knocked on Ethan's office door. "You can't keep punishing yourself." Ethan looked up tiredly. "I should have protected her." "You still can." "What do you mean?" Daniel placed a flash drive on the desk. "The IT department recovered deleted security footage." Ethan frowned. "I thought those files were gone." "So did the person who deleted them." Minutes later, Ethan and the head of IT watched the recovered recordings. The footage showed Mark Reynolds entering the security office late at night. Another clip showed him copying confidential files onto a USB drive. Finally, there was footage of him meeting Victoria in the company parking garage. Ethan's eyes narrowed. "So it was them." The IT manager nodded. "We also traced the anonymous emails sent to the media. They came from a device registered to Mark." Ethan clenched his fists. "They framed Amelia." The following morning, Ethan called an emergency board meeting. He presented the recovered footage, the email records, and the financial evidence showing that Mark had been secretly working with a rival company. The board members were stunned. One director stood up. "So Amelia was innocent all along." "Yes," Ethan replied firmly. "She sacrificed her career to protect this company." The chairman turned to security. "Escort Mr. Reynolds out of the building immediately." Mark tried to protest, but the evidence was overwhelming. He was dismissed on the spot. Victoria, realizing the plan had failed, quietly left the building before anyone could question her. As the meeting ended, Ethan looked at Daniel. "I know who betrayed us." Daniel smiled. "Then there's only one thing left to do." Ethan picked up his car keys. "I'm bringing Amelia home." Daniel laughed. "You'd better hurry." Ethan smiled for the first time in days. No matter where Amelia had gone... He was determined to find her, tell her the truth, and ask for one more chance. End of Chapter 13 Next: Chapter 14 – The Search, where Ethan travels across London to find Amelia before it's too late.
