Chapter 1 – A New Beginning
The chilly London morning was wrapped in a light mist as Amelia Carter stepped out of the Underground station. Dressed in a navy-blue blazer, a white blouse, and black heels, she took a deep breath while staring at the towering glass building before her.
Blackwood Technologies.
One of the fastest-growing technology companies in the United Kingdom.
"This is it," she whispered to herself. "Don't mess this up."
After months of searching for a stable job, countless interviews, and more rejection emails than she could count, Amelia had finally been offered a position as the Executive Assistant to the company's CEO.
She couldn't afford to fail.
Her widowed mother depended on her, and so did her younger brother, who was studying at university. This job wasn't just a dream—it was their future.
Inside the elegant lobby, employees hurried from one meeting to another. Everyone looked confident, polished, and focused.
Amelia suddenly felt like she didn't belong.
"Good morning," the receptionist greeted with a smile. "You must be Miss Carter."
"Yes."
"Welcome to Blackwood Technologies. Human Resources is waiting for you on the fifteenth floor."
"Thank you."
After completing orientation and signing several documents, Amelia was escorted to the executive floor.
"This office belongs to Mr. Ethan Blackwood," the HR manager explained. "He's brilliant... but demanding."
Amelia smiled nervously.
"I can handle demanding."
The HR manager chuckled.
"You'll find out soon enough."
Just then, the elevator doors opened.
A tall man in a charcoal suit stepped out. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his sharp grey eyes swept across the hallway.
The entire floor fell silent.
Employees immediately stood straighter.
"Good morning, sir."
"Morning, Mr. Blackwood."
Without acknowledging anyone, he walked confidently toward his office.
Amelia watched him in awe.
"So... that's the CEO."
Before she could look away, Ethan stopped.
His eyes met hers.
For a brief second, neither of them spoke.
"You must be the new assistant," he said in a calm but cold voice.
"Y-Yes, sir."
He looked her up and down before speaking again.
"I expect punctuality, professionalism, and excellence."
Amelia nodded quickly.
"You'll have all three."
"I hope so."
Without another word, he entered his office.
Amelia released the breath she didn't realize she'd been holding.
"Wow..." she murmured.
Her first day had barely begun, and she already knew one thing.
Working for Ethan Blackwood would be the greatest challenge of her life.
But deep down, she had no idea that this cold, distant man would one day change her life forever.
