Chapter 14 – The Search
The streets of London were alive with the usual rush of traffic, but Ethan barely noticed.
His only thought was Amelia.
Armed with a few clues from Sophie and Daniel, he began searching every place Amelia had ever mentioned—the quiet café where she loved to read, the small park where she went to clear her mind, and the riverside path where they had once shared coffee after work.
But she wasn't there.
Meanwhile, Amelia had rented a small cottage on the outskirts of London.
She wanted peace.
She wanted to forget the pain.
Every morning, she took long walks through the countryside, trying to convince herself that leaving Ethan had been the right decision.
Still, every time her phone lit up with another missed call from him, her heart ached.
"I have to stay strong," she whispered.
"If I go back... everything might happen again."
Back in the city, Sophie walked into Ethan's office with a small notebook.
"I found this in Amelia's desk while packing her things."
Ethan opened it carefully.
Inside were handwritten notes, meeting ideas, and sketches for future company projects.
Tucked between the pages was a photograph from the charity gala.
On the back, Amelia had written:
"No matter what happens, meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to me."
Ethan closed the notebook, his eyes filling with emotion.
"I'm not giving up."
That evening, Daniel received a message from one of his contacts.
"I think we've found her."
He quickly called Ethan.
"She's staying in a cottage near the countryside outside London."
Without wasting another second, Ethan drove through the night.
Rain began to fall, but he didn't slow down.
Hours later, he finally reached the cottage.
A warm light glowed from the window.
He stepped onto the porch and knocked.
A few seconds later, the door opened.
Amelia stood there, shocked.
"Ethan..."
He looked at her with tired eyes.
"I've been looking everywhere for you."
She struggled to speak.
"You shouldn't have come."
"I had to."
He took a slow step forward.
"The truth is out, Amelia. Mark and Victoria planned everything. The board knows you're innocent."
Tears filled her eyes.
"They... know?"
"They know."
For a long moment, neither of them moved.
Then Ethan gently reached for her hand.
"I didn't come here because of the company."
He looked into her eyes.
"I came because I can't imagine my life without you."
A tear rolled down Amelia's cheek.
She had waited so long to hear those words.
But before she could answer...
A car pulled up behind Ethan.
Someone stepped out.
Victoria.
Her face was cold, and her voice was steady.
"This isn't over yet."
