Chapter 17 – The Final Showdown The morning of the investor conference arrived. The headquarters of Blackwood Technologies buzzed with nervous energy. Employees hurried through the hallways, making final checks on every presentation, every report, and every detail. In the conference hall, dozens of investors, business leaders, and journalists took their seats. Everything depended on what happened next. Backstage, Amelia adjusted her blazer and took a deep breath. Ethan noticed her trembling hands. "Nervous?" he asked with a gentle smile. "A little." He reached for her hand. "You've prepared for this. Trust yourself." She smiled. "And you?" "I'm nervous too." She laughed softly. "I never thought I'd hear Ethan Blackwood admit that." "For you," he replied, "I'd admit anything." The presentation began. Ethan stepped onto the stage first. He spoke about the company's journey, its challenges, and the lessons learned from the recent scandal. Instead of hiding the truth, he addressed it openly. "We made mistakes," he said. "But we also learned that integrity matters more than reputation. Blackwood Technologies stands today because of people who chose honesty over fear." The audience applauded. Then Ethan turned toward the side of the stage. "I'd like to introduce someone whose courage helped save this company." Amelia looked surprised. He smiled. "Miss Amelia Carter." The audience applauded as she walked onto the stage. With confidence, she presented the company's groundbreaking AI project, explaining how it would transform industries and create thousands of new opportunities. Her calm voice and clear vision captivated the room. When she finished, the hall erupted in applause. After a short break, the lead investor stood. "We've made our decision." The room fell silent. "We will continue supporting Blackwood Technologies." A wave of relief swept through the hall. One by one, other investors announced that they would keep their shares and reject the hostile takeover. The rival company's offer had failed. Blackwood Technologies was safe. That evening, the company held a celebration. Music filled the ballroom as employees laughed and congratulated one another. Daniel raised a glass. "To Ethan and Amelia—for reminding us that great companies are built by great people." Everyone cheered. Ethan looked at Amelia across the room. "You didn't just save this company," he said quietly. "You saved me." Amelia smiled. "We saved each other." As they shared a dance, neither of them noticed Ethan quietly slipping a small velvet box into the pocket of his jacket. He had already made up his mind. There was one more question he wanted to ask Amelia. And he hoped she would say yes. End of Chapter 17 Next: Chapter 18 – The Proposal, where Ethan plans the most unforgettable moment of Amelia's life.
