Chapter 11 – Betrayal
Monday morning began like any other at Blackwood Technologies.
Employees hurried through the lobby with cups of coffee in hand, preparing for another busy week.
Amelia smiled as she stepped out of the elevator.
She had no idea that everything was about to change.
Inside Ethan's office, his phone rang repeatedly.
His assistant from the communications team rushed in, looking panicked.
"Mr. Blackwood, we have a serious problem."
Ethan looked up.
"What happened?"
She placed a tablet on his desk.
The front page of a major business news website showed several photos of Ethan and Amelia.
One photo showed them leaving the restaurant together.
Another captured Ethan giving Amelia the silver bracelet.
The headline read:
"Blackwood Technologies CEO in Secret Romance with Employee?"
Within minutes, social media exploded with comments.
Some defended them.
Others accused Ethan of favoritism and abusing his position.
Outside Ethan's office, whispers spread across the company.
"I knew the rumors were true."
"Did she get promoted because of him?"
"This could destroy the company's reputation."
Amelia froze as she overheard the conversations.
Tears filled her eyes.
She had worked hard to earn her place.
Now people believed she had only succeeded because of her relationship with Ethan.
Ethan called an emergency meeting with the board of directors.
One of the directors spoke first.
"This scandal is damaging investor confidence."
Another added,
"The media is demanding answers."
Ethan remained calm.
"My relationship with Amelia began long after she was hired. She earned her position through her own ability."
Some directors believed him.
Others were not convinced.
Mark Reynolds sat quietly, hiding a satisfied smile.
His plan was working perfectly.
Later that evening, Ethan found Amelia alone in the office.
She was staring at the bracelet in her hand.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
He stepped closer.
"You have nothing to apologize for."
"If I hadn't fallen in love with you, none of this would have happened."
Ethan gently took her hands.
"Don't ever blame yourself for loving someone."
A tear rolled down Amelia's cheek.
"I don't want to be the reason you lose everything."
"You won't."
"I promise."
They embraced, unaware that the biggest betrayal had not yet been revealed.
Hidden in another office, Mark deleted several security files that could expose him as the person who leaked the photos.
Then he picked up his phone and sent one final message to Victoria.
"Phase two is complete. Now it's time to separate them."
Victoria smiled as she read the message.
"The hardest part is about to begin."
