_We Never Knew_

1418 Words
As days passed by, I became busy with work and so was Yun. He's very busy in the hospital. He would come in the morning to pick me up and drop me at the office. At night he will pick me up and will stay at my house to eat dinner with me and chat a little. We always talk about our dreams and plans for the future. While we were talking, he said that he wanted to build our own and he asked if I want it in the city or in the island where he grew up. At that time, I never thought that he'd ask me about it. I then began to think about when he had left and I was already in my room. My thoughts were taken by the text message I received from him telling me he was at home and safe. As I found my solitude, I remembered when I accidentally saw him in front of a bookshop where he was helping a man who fell on the ladder. But as he was helping the man who was bleeding and I think in so much pain, the man died. I think I heard him saying "you have done everything and now it's time for you to have a safe trip to your destination'. I was curious why he had to say those words and after that I saw the man had just closed his eyes and was declared dead. Yun has his mysterious ways that sometimes make me shiver just thinking about them. I tried to get rid of those ideas and my head and focused on my laundry. I decided to cook ramen for myself and think about the kimchi that I bought in the supermarket. ." It is just perfect". This will be just enough for my lunch. After finishing my laundry, I decided to go to the nearest supermarket for some of the things I needed at home. I decided to call Cha because I wanted to eat samgyup with someone and it's time I wanted to catch up with her because of the lost time we'd had when she was so busy with her review and me on finding Yun. ' Hey Cha! are you tonight?", " Oh, I am glad you've remembered me. It's been a while" . " I know and sorry for it ...... OK, I'll just tell you later personally", "Ok! see later Sunnie". Cha was a friend from high school. We became close during our junior and senior high. That time, when we were with Yun and I was really planning to do architecture or interior designing and, because my parents passed away and,, the family business was bankrupt, I had no choice but to enroll on a business course instead of my own personal dream.. She was the one I talked to when things seemed different and difficult for me. Cha was not only a friend. I treated her as my sister. I finished everything I needed at the supermarket and left. I need to prepare myself to see my best friend Cha. Arriving home, I hurriedly went to take a shower and wear my jeans and white top, then I brought a jacket in case it got cold outside. We decided to meet at a small restaurant where we usually meet.. I decided to walk since I still had a lot of time because it was still early. I saw Cha immediately from afar. She waved and called my name. I ran in her direction and embraced her and we went inside the small neat wooden area. We were very lucky because it was not jampacked like usual. I saw a table in the corner and we decided to go there for us to have our privacy. As we sat she immediately spoke" How are you? I miss you so much." I replied "Me too.". He told me that she'd be taking the civil service exam this August. If only I had joined her review I could take the exam as well. I told her that I was fine in the office working as a lawyer and, of course, with Pyong, our friend. She asked, "Did Pyong ever bother you again about his confession that time before our graduation?" I told her "No! not anymore" and I added " I think I have made him understand that we are only good friends'. She said grinning, " You are very lucky to have two men who were in love with you and both considered you as their first love." . " No! it's really not fun at all." and I flipped my hair teasingly and laughed. I told her what happened between me and Yun and she was teasing me that I am already very serious about my relationship with Yun and she knew about it that someday they'd be hearing wedding bells soon. We laughed and talked and laughed and talked until we forgot the time that had passed by. We ordered Tteokbokki, kimchi and chicken. We also drink a little soju. Oh! I thought we had a little of it but it turns out that we had two - three bottles each. Going home, I invited her to pass by a convenience store to buy something that would help us sober ourselves. We sat on the chairs outside the convenience store and, while drinking, Cha told me that " I am happy for you now that you are doing well.", 'I just hope to see both of you happy always and eventually together for the rest of your life". I was so touched by her wish and embraced her and I whispered ' Thank you and I hope you pass the civil service exam", and pat her back and I laughed to avoid both us crying or becoming too sentimental. I ended the night happy and I sent her home and helped her grab a taxi. I walked all the way home and while going home I passed by the park and saw the place where we used to hang out and play. I sat on the swing for a while and remembered our happy moments with our friends. Seonha, Hera and Hanjae. We were all happy. Although we have had our struggles as friends, we are able to adjust ourselves to each other. Among the three, Hanjae was the most difficult to handle. Maybe because she came from a rich family. But she adjusted herself after a time. We all shared our secrets, our sorrows and happiness the most. I learned from Cha that Hera was already pregnant and Seonha would be marrying this September in time for autumn.Cha handed me the invitation Seonha asked her to give me and we decided that we would all be going there and also reminded me of the baby shower in December a few months after Seonha's wedding. I set all those important events in my mind and heart and also on my calendar so that I forget about them. I felt the chilling wind of August on my skin and was glad that I brought my jacket along. I can hear the wind on the leaves of the trees on the path and the small magnolias planted around it. I stood up and decided to go home. Walking on my way home and passing through the alley, I think I saw someone coming my way. I couldn't recognize the shadow until it was gone, but I was shocked when someone held my hand and pulled me. As I looked back, I saw Yun holding me and smiling. "How are you?", " I was waiting for you for hours now." I looked at him and told him " I am sorry something came up and I met Cha earlier". He asked" Are you drunk?" I said "No, I am not, we just had a few bottles.', "why didn't you call me so I can pick you up?".I replied, "We both needed time," and he said that it was just fine but,, next time I need to call him for things like because it is not safe for a lady like walking at nigh drunk and alone. I said with an okay gesture "Okay, next time." He sent me home and helped me to the room and he gave me a peck on my cheek and forehead and told me that he'd leave so I could rest and I just smiled ..
