First Day, First Encounter
Alicia's PoV
As a simple person, this environment is very new to me. As I walked passed the other students, I can see them staring at me with disgust. I feel like their going to vomit just because they saw me. We wear the same uniforms, but the only difference is the accessories they put to match it. I don't wear those stuffs, it's a hindrance for me.
I took a deep breathe and let out a long sigh. This is where I study now and I'll be here for the next couple of years if I'm lucky. As time will go by, I'll get used to this environment.
I knocked at the door in front of me before opening it. As I entered the faculty room, I can see how well-built this room is. From the floor made of tiles, to the windows made in clear and thick glass. Even the tables and chairs are designed fabulously.
"Good morning, Miss," a not too old lady greeted me. "How may I help you?" she asked.
"Good morning, Ma'am. I'm Alicia Valenzia," I mumbled.
"You must be the transferred student?" She looked at me from head to toe. As if like she's inspecting me.
"Yes, I am," I answered.
"Here's your campus ID and your class schedules." She handed me an envelop and smiled at me.
I felt aa bit embarassed but at the same time, glad. I thought she's a terror-like teacher. Turns out, I'm wrong.
"Thank you!" I smiled as I went outside the room.
This is it! I can do this!
I stared at my class schedule as I continue walking in the hall. I'm not familiar with all the building here but I really need to know it because my first class starts at 8:00 am. I'm 15 minutes late! What a shame!
I started to run as I find where my classroom is. I can see all the students staring at me but I can't focus to them. I need to hurry before I missed my first class.
It took me a few more minute before I found where my classroom is. I can feel my sweat all over my face but I could care less. I gulped three times before opening the door.
I watched the professor in front stop writing on the board and slowly turn his head into my direction.
“Good morning, Miss?” he stated. His eyes still focused on me waiting for my answer.
“Alicia Valenzia, Sir. Good morning,” I mumbled.
“The transferee?” He walked closer to me. “Congratulations, you didn’t missed the first class!” he then added.
I forced a small laugh and smiled at him awkwardly. I don’t know if he’s being sarcastic. But I don’t care. As long as I didn’t missed his class.
“Go, find your seat,” he instructed.
I entered the room only to be welcomed by gazes. All the students are looking at me. Some with disgust and some with curiosity.
I found a vacant seat at the back, three vacant seats rather. When they noticed that I was aiming for that spot at the back, they immediately went to the other side of the room. Leaving that three seats at the back empty.
Well, they do me a favor. As much as possible, I don't want to get close to them. I know what they're doing and I'm completely aware of this kind of behavior.
When I sat down, the bell also rang. I saw our professor walking towards me. He's holding a few papers.
"Here's a copy of our lesson for today. Since you almost missed my class, here." He handed me the papers then walked away.
"Thank you, Sir..." I don't know his name!
"Sir Montero."
"Thank you, Sir Montero," I repeated.
"As you should," he mumbled then left the classroom.
What the hell? I don't know if there's something wrong with him. I really thought he's nice.
I saw my classmates leaving so I looked at my schedule to know my next class. I believe it's just beside this building so rushed out. But before I can exit, I bumped into someone making me fell on the floor.
I heard her groans in irritation. "What the hell? Are you blind?" she exclaimed.
A lot of students gathered and mumbled to one another. Is this some kind of show?
I slowly got up, my back is hurt. I bow my head a little. "I'm sorry, I'm on a rush," I stated. Staring at the floor.
"So? It's not my problem!" She's still making this a chaotic scene.
I raised my head, directly staring at her. Sh'es not that tall. Her hair is short, but I can still pull the hell out of it.
"Again, I'm sorry," I mumbled. Trying my best to stay calm. After all, this is my first day.
I tried to walked passed her but she grabbed my arm making me unable to. The gossips of the students surrounding us is getting louder. But I could care less. I need to get out of here or else, I'll be late to my next class. Again!
"Don't you dare walk away from me!" she shouted.
Okay, this is getting into my nerves.
"What's going on here?" I saw a man walking towards our direction.
"Oh my! The President is here!" a student near me said.
"That transferee deserves to be punished!" another student stated.
What? Punished? I didn't do anything.
"Alvin, this girl right here is so careless!"
"What did you do?" the man named Alvin calmly asked me.
"I bumped into her," I answered.
"You may go," Alvin instructed.
"Wait, what? You won't punish her?" The girl is still making this worst.
"Janina, stop. It was an accident. It didn't caused you your life," Alvin stated.
I secretly smiled. "Then, if you'll excuse me. I'll be late for my next class," I said.
"But, Alvin!" Janina stomped her foot like a child.
"Leave, Janina. The classes are starting," Alvin firmly ordered.
All the students hurriedly left and went to their respective classes. I saw Janina running away and all I could do is shook my head.
"I thought you'll be late?" I didn't expect Alvin to speak again. I thought he's about to leave.
"Ah, yeah."
"Good luck on your first day." He then smiled then turned his back and walked the other way.
I just shrugged the thought the his smile is cute. 'Wake up Alicia! You're here to study, remember?'
I went to my next class. I'm 30 minutes late but it was okay. At least the professor didn't get mad at me. I tried to focused on her class but all the gazes I received from my classmates are making me uncomfortable.
After her class, my classmates immediately left because it's break time. But I didn't bother to go to the cafeteria. I want to explore the campus and familiarize the buildings so I won't get lost again.
After a few minutes of roaming around, I ended up sitting under a tree in the wide garden of the campus. It's amazingly wide and I could see that the flowers and plants here are well handled. There's a vast amount of red and pink roses. I'm surprised that there are sunflowers and tulips too. The tulips are perfectly arranged by its color making it a wonderful scenery in the eyes.
I took my glasses off and tried to relaxed myself. The air here feels fresh. And thanks to the leaves of this tree that blocked the heat of the sun.
"Enjoying the view?" a voice of a man stated.
I tried to looked around but I saw nothing. I put my glasses and tried to look around again, but still nothing.
I heard a soft chuckle. "Up here," I saw Alvin sitting on a tree branch.
"Sorry, I didn't noticed you there," I said.
"It's okay. I forgot to introduce myself earlier." He paused then smiled. "Alvin Montero."
"I'm Alicia. Nice meeting you."
"Nice meeting you, too."
"I forgot to thank you for what you did earlier."
"Maybe a treat at lunch?"
"A what?" I didn't expect him to say that.
He laugh a bit making me more embarrassed. I can feel my face heating up and I'm sure it turned red.
"I'm sorry," Alvin said. Maybe he noticed my reaction.
"It's okay. I'm just, ah. Shock? I didn't expect that," I honestly stated. "But yeah, sure. I'd be glad to treat you for lunch," I added.
"Sounds like a deal to me." Alvin smiled again. He offered me his hand.
Those smiles are really something. I don't know why it gives me a very unfamiliar feelings.
"Deal," I agreed.
I stood up and reached for his hand. He's still on the tree branch and thankfully, it's not that high. I can still reach him.
To be continued...
