The Man Who Doesn’t Let Go
Sienna’s POV
“Kai…” My voice barely exists. But he hears it anyway, of course he does.
His smile deepens, slow and deliberate, like he’s savoring the sound of his name on my lips. “Still say it the same way,” he murmurs. “Soft. Careful… like you’re not sure if I’m real.”
My stomach twists violently, because he hasn’t changed. Not really.
Same messy dark hair. Same charming face that once made it so easy to trust him. But his eyes…They’re worse. They are darker, unstable and obsessed.
“What are you doing here?” I manage, my voice shaking despite everything in me trying to stay steady.
Kai tilts his head slightly, like he’s considering the question. “Looking for you.”
The words land like ice down my spine. Dominic moves in front of me before I can react, his body blocking mine completely. I barely see Kai now, just the hard line of Dominic’s shoulders, the tension coiled in every inch of him.
“Wrong place,” Dominic says, his voice low and deadly.
Kai lets out a quiet laugh. “Actually,” he replies, taking a slow step forward, “this is exactly the right place.”
Every muscle in Dominic’s body goes rigid. “Careful,” Kai adds lightly. “Your guards don’t seem to be having a great night.”
As if on cue, another distant gunshot echoes outside and my heart jumps.
Kai’s gaze shifts slightly, trying to look around Dominic….to find me. “I told you to come back,” he says.
My breath catches.
“You didn’t listen,” he continues, almost disappointed. “You never were very good at that.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you,” I snap, forcing my voice to hold, even as fear crawls under my skin.
Kai smiles again. “You say that now.”
Something in his tone makes my pulse spike. Then Dominic takes a step forward, fully placing himself between us. “You’re done talking,” he says coldly.
Kai’s expression shifts, but just slightly…but it’s enough to reveal what’s underneath. Not fear, but excitement. “You always do this,” Kai says, his eyes flicking over Dominic. “Stand in front of her like you own her.”
“I protect what’s mine.” Dominic said coldly. The words are quiet and deadly.
And they hit harder than anything else in the room.
My heart beat very fast. Kai notices. Of course he does.
His grin sharpens. “That’s the problem, isn’t it?” he says softly. “You think she’s still yours.”
“I know she is.” Dominic replied.
The air snaps.
I feel it. That invisible line between them, it was tightening, and ready to break.
“Funny,” Kai murmurs. “Because last time I checked…” His gaze locks onto mine again, intense and unblinking. “…she walked away from you.”
Silence crashes down.
Dominic doesn’t respond. But I feel it. The shift, the anger and the control barely holding. Kai takes another step closer. Too close. “Come here, Sienna.”
My heart slams as I breathe the word. “No.” It’s immediate and instinctive.
His expression darkens. “I wasn’t asking.” Before I can react…. Dominic moves fast.
In the blink of an eye, he grabs Kai by the collar and slams him hard against the nearest wall. The impact echoes through the hall and everything explodes into motion. Guards rush forward with their weapons raised.
“Don’t,” Dominic growls, his grip tightening. “You don’t get to say her name.”
Kai doesn’t fight back. He just laughs.
.
“You’re still the same,” he says, breathless but amused. “All control. All possession.”
Dominic’s fist tightens like he’s seconds away from breaking something.
“Let me make this simple,” Dominic says, his voice dropping lower. “You come near her again….”
“I will,” Kai cuts in smoothly. That stops everything. Even Dominic.
Kai leans forward slightly despite the hold on him, his eyes flicking past Dominic, then to me. “I will come near her,” he repeats softly. “Again and again… until she remembers.”
My stomach drops. “Remember what?” I whisper before I can stop myself.
Kai’s gaze sharpens. Like he’s been waiting for that. “For a second there,” he says quietly, “I thought you really forgot.”
Forgot… what? My chest tightens with confusion mixed with fear. Dominic’s grip tightens again. “You’re not touching her.”
Kai finally looks back at him. And this time. The amusement is gone.
“You think this is about touching her?” he asks, his voice dropping into something darker. “You still don’t understand, do you?”
“This started long before you.” The words hit like a punch and Dominic’s expression hardens. “You’re not walking out of here.”
Kai smiles again, but this time… It’s different. It's colder. “Who said I was here to walk out?”
My heart stutters. What? Before anyone can react… A loud explosion shakes the entire mansion and the ground trembles under my feet. Glass shatters somewhere deeper inside the house and alarms scream louder.
Chaos erupts again and Dominic’s grip loosens just enough. . And that’s all Kai needs.
He shoves him back hard and disappears into the confusion. “Stop him!” Marcus shouts.
Guards take off immediately. Running and shouting. But it’s already too late.
Kai is gone. Just like that. Like he was never there at all.
My heart beats too fast, and my mind struggles to catch up. “What did he mean?” I whisper. “What did he mean by that?”
Dominic doesn’t answer, instead he’s staring at the space Kai just vanished from, his expression darker than I’ve ever seen it.
“Dominic,” I press, panic creeping in. “What is he talking about?”
Slowly….then he turns to me. And something in his eyes makes my stomach drop. Because it’s not just anger anymore. It's a realization and something dangerously close to concern. “What did you forget?” he asks quietly.
My breath catches. “I didn’t forget anything.” But even as I say it… Something feels… wrong. Like there’s a gap, like a missing piece I can’t quite reach.
Dominic takes a slow step toward me. “That’s not possible,” he says.
My heart starts racing again. “What are you talking about?”
His jaw tightens. And when he finally speaks…his voice is low and careful and heavy with something that makes fear crawl up my spine.
“Sienna…”
A pause followed.
“You were never supposed to remember him.”
