The Boy Who Could Hear Tomorrow
The Boy Who Could Hear Tomorrow
Adrian Vale had always believed that the future was something nobody could hear.
Then the watch spoke.
It happened on an ordinary Saturday afternoon.
Adrian was cleaning the attic when he discovered an old wooden box hidden beneath a pile of dusty books. Inside was a silver pocket watch.
He recognized it immediately.
It had belonged to his grandfather.
His grandfather had disappeared twelve years earlier, leaving behind almost no explanation.
Adrian picked up the watch.
A faint ticking filled the room.
Then everything went silent.
A voice whispered from somewhere behind him.
"Don't let them reach the station."
Adrian dropped the watch.
He spun around.
Nobody was there.
His heart raced as he stared at the empty attic.
Then the watch began ticking again.
That night, Adrian told Maya what had happened.
"You actually heard a voice coming from the watch?" she asked.
"Yes."
Maya stared at him for several seconds.
"Okay. That's officially the strangest thing you've ever told me."
Adrian almost laughed.
Then the watch clicked.
A strange sound came from it.
A train horn.
Both teenagers froze.
Evervale's old railway station had been abandoned for twenty years.
There were no trains there.
Yet Adrian had heard one.
The following afternoon, Adrian and Maya went to the station.
The building was covered in vines and dust. Broken windows reflected the afternoon sunlight.
Inside, Adrian found an old photograph.
He wiped away the dust.
His hands suddenly began shaking.
Standing in the photograph was his grandfather.
Beside him was a group of strangers.
And standing at the center was Adrian's mother.
Adrian stared at the picture.
"That's impossible."
Maya looked at him.
"What's wrong?"
"My mother told me she'd never been here."
Before Maya could answer, Adrian touched the photograph.
A sound exploded inside his mind.
Footsteps.
A door opening.
Then his mother's voice.
"If Adrian ever finds the watch, you must keep him away from the Key."
Adrian pulled his hand away.
Maya grabbed his arm.
"What did you hear?"
Adrian looked toward the dark railway tunnel.
"I think my mother knew this would happen."
A light suddenly appeared deep inside the tunnel.
Someone was coming.
Adrian and Maya stepped backward.
A figure emerged from the darkness.
They couldn't see the person's face.
But Adrian heard something.
Not from the watch.
From the future.
A voice whispered:
"He's already too late."
The mysterious figure disappeared into the shadows.
Adrian looked at Maya.
The silver watch began ticking faster.
And for the first time, Adrian understood the truth.
The future wasn't simply waiting for him.
It was changing because of him.
Somewhere beneath Evervale was an object called the Chronos Key.
His grandfather had protected it.
His mother had hidden it.
And now someone else was coming for it.
Adrian tightened his grip around the watch.
"We're going to find it."
Maya nodded.
"Before whoever that was."
They walked deeper into the abandoned station.
Neither of them noticed the second shadow following behind them.
And somewhere in the darkness, the watch whispered again.
"Tomorrow begins tonight."
