“What!?” Miko exclaimed. I smacked his head for overreacting.
“Ouch, that hurted, Ray. Is it true?”
“Yes, and where do you think Sun will sleep?” I said.
“You have a lot of explaining to do, Mr. De Luna.” Miko said, shaking his head.
“Why is there something wrong?” Sun said.
“No, there is nothing Sun. Ray, explain everything to me tomorrow.” Miko said and hurriedly left to go to his room.
Sun was confused about what was happening. I just looked at him and smiled, telling him to go inside the room already. I placed the cardigan on the hanger rack beside my door and headed to the table beside my bed. I fished out my phone and placed it there. Sun headed to the bed and sat there.
“I’ll wash up first, Sun.” I said, looking at him. Sun nodded in response. After a few minutes, I went out of the bathroom and saw Sun looking outside the window.
“The moon is really pretty tonight.” He said.
Curious, I walked towards where he was and looked outside too. Indeed, it was really pretty. The cool breeze hit my face, while gazing at the night sky. It was calming. The main reason why I decided to go here in the countryside for this kind of scenery.
“It is.” I answered.
“Thank you, Ray for everything.” Sun said.
“Why?”
“You have done a lot for me already. Even though we are strangers, we don’t personally know each other but you always help me out. I don’t know what will happen if you did not appear earlier. Also, I was able to talk with people thanks to you. It felt really warm and I had fun. I wish this could last forever.” Sun said, giving a faint smile, hunting sadness from his eyes. We stayed silent for a while, looking at the night sky. I really felt what he said.
“You’re welcome, Sun. You already became a part of our lives, and remember, I am your friend. Miko too, so if you have something in your mind, you can tell us, ``Okay?”
Sun nodded in response, and smiled “Thank you so much.”
A memory flashed in my head when he smiled. It was the kid that I met when I was young, smiling at me too. It looked familiar.
“You okay, Ray?” Sun asked, tapping my shoulders. I spaced out for a moment.
“Yes, I am.”
“I guess you need to rest now.” Sun said.
“Okay, you too, Sun.”
That night, I had the same dream over and over again. The kid kept on appearing in my dreams, with the same exact words, about our promise. It was not a bad dream, but it was not pleasant either.
----
The next morning, I woke up a bit late. As usual, Miko was here to wake me up. Sun disappeared already. Now that I think about it, his situation was the same as his name. The sun rises and sets, but it was the opposite. He appears at night and disappears during the day.
“Stand up, Ray. I brought breakfast. Cynthia and the others insisted on carrying food for you and Sun.” Miko said, fixing the table.
I picked up my phone since it’s my usual routine. I checked for messages and emails about business, and responded to some of them. I was out of work for a few days already, and I need to catch up.
There was another message I saw, and I think it was from my sister.
“Let’s meet up at Cafe Soluna.” I typed okay in response to her message.
“Miko, do you know where cafe Soluna is?”
“Yes, why?”
“I am going to meet up with my sister Rosalia.” I said.
“What!?” Miko exclaimed. There he goes again with his over the top reaction. I can’t help but not laugh at him.
