Chapter 21

1334 Words
It was already lunch time when I headed back to the main house. I am still not used to these things because I get tired easily, so I need to raise my stamina. Maybe I should ask Cynthia to make me some food that can help? I arrived at the kitchen and I saw everyone eating happily. The atmosphere sure is different from here than our house. From the house that I was from, I usually eat alone or sometimes, when Father is around, you can’t talk that much. All he did was to let us remember all our failures, even causing me to have indigestion one time. “What took you so long?” Miko asked. “Well, I had fun talking with them. Everything is really interesting here.” I said, picking up a glass of water. “Fun? That’s good to hear. You know what, your sister sent me a message earlier and asked me about your situation. Well, I just responded that you are happy in what you are doing.” Checking up on me again? Why are they still doing that? I don’t know why but I can’t help not to laugh. “Are you okay?” Miko asked. “No, it’s nothing. The fact that they are still curious about my whereabouts. I’m pretty sure that father told them everything already. Well, since I am out of the competition, they shouldn't worry about it anymore.” “Oh, one more thing. Your sister told me that Pine is going to return to the country after two weeks. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why she asked me too, because of your annoying ex-girlfriend.” Miko sighed. I just laughed after hearing what Miko said. I broke up with her two years ago but why does she keep on following me like a mad dog. “You know what, your ex is obsessed with you. I remember one time when you were sent by your father to an engagement meeting for the first time, and she caused a ruckus. She is really head over heels with you, haha.” “Well, let’s not talk about it anymore. I don’t want to ruin my appetite for some things that should have been forgotten already.” I said, and continued chewing on the food. I don’t want to ruin my day because of those stupid memories. --- Again, a whole day has passed and Sun did not show up. I tried to check everywhere but there were no signs of him. Even the cold breeze that I always feel but there was no one around. After dismissing everyone from the office, I left and headed back into the room. Before reaching the room, someone was waiting for me outside. It was Lena, who sprung up instantly as soon as she saw me. “Hi.” I said and waved my hands towards her. “Hi Sir Ray. I was looking for you, but one of the office workers told me that you are on your way back here, so I waited for you.” “Really, how come you arrived here first? I just left a few minutes ago.” I said, confused. “Well, it’s a secret Sir Ray. Kidding. There is a shortcut from the office towards here. I’ll tell you some other time, hehe.” “Oh, sure! Please do. Is there something you need? You could have just told me earlier when I went to your area.” I said, I invited her to sit down in the living room and asked her if she would like some coffee or juice. She said that she already had had some snacks earlier so a glass of water will do. After a minute, I came back with a glass of water and gave it to her. “About that, I just want to ask permission to take a day off because I wanted to visit the community college in the neighbouring town. Father won’t allow me since he said that I would just waste time going there. I really wanted to finish school, that's why I am also working hard.” Hearing what she said, there was some disagreement between the two. I understand because it always happens when I get in an argument with my Father. But this time, I know the reasons why he did not approve of what Lena wanted. "Can you tell me what is the reason why she is not allowing you to do so?” “Father told me that we don’t have enough money and I should just focus on working on the farm. At Least my future will be sure, according to my father. I really wanted to study to give them a better life. I want to see father resting well, not worrying about anything since he is getting older already.” She said, teary eyed. I smiled at her to relieve what she was feeling now. “I see, I get your point Lena. Don’t worry, I will help you. I just want you to promise me about one thing.” “What is it Sir?” “You need to study well okay? You can tell your father that I agreed on giving you a day off. I’ll talk with him as well. By the way, you can work part time at my office to give you some allowance. I’ll tell Miko later so that he can arrange things for you, Lena.” Lena stood up and hugged me all of a sudden. I can feel that she was crying with joy. I tapped her back to comfort her. I just realized what’s the use of having a lot of money if it doesn't bring happiness. Better use it for something good, also I can’t carry this when I die. Before, I also believed in my father’s ideals, thinking that money is important. But growing up made me realize a lot of things. I am still not there, and I admit I have to learn a lot. I looked at the clock in the living room, and it was already past six in the evening. I did not realize I talked a lot with Lena, and it was surprising. I don’t usually do that, but ever since I came to this farm, I feel everything is being lifted. My phone rang all of a sudden, and when I checked who was calling, I felt nervous. It was my father. I did not answer, but he called again. What does he want? After three attempts, he stopped calling me. There was a notification on the phone, and it was from him. I did bother opening the message and headed to my room. Without bothering to turn on the lights on the room, I hurriedly lied down on the bed. Trying to relax, I covered my eyes with my arm. It was so silent. “Are you okay?” A familiar voice asked. “Sun?” I removed my arms and saw that he was an inch away from me. My heart suddenly beat faster, and I felt nervous. Even for a ghost, his breath was tingling my senses. I immediately rolled away from him, not realizing I was on the edge of the bed already. There was a loud thud heard in my room. I hurriedly stood up and touched my butt. “Are you okay, Ray?” “Y-yes, I’m okay.” I answered and went near the door to open the lights. When the light hit the room, for a second I saw Sun radiating with his pale skin. My heart beat even faster than earlier, and I can feel my jaws drop.
