Adi, The girl with no hands

1 In a cold winter afternoon at Cumberland, Mr Bubber Wood a man in his early 40s with brown hair, glasses and old black boots sat on a rolling chair wearing a heavy winter jacket. Mr Bubber was reading his newspaper with a hot glass of coffee, when he heard a loud noise. Oh! What’s that noise? I think the noise is coming from upstairs Mr Bubber said to himself. Suddenly Miss Anna who is the family nurse, a chubby lady ran towards him with so much anxiety on her face. What’s wrong?!! Mr Bubber Asked with so much fear, miss Anna replied I think your wife is in labour, labour? Mr Bubber screamed with his eyes wide opened, yes miss Anna replied. Quickly they ran upstairs to check on Mrs Bubber as they heard her scream out loud, immediately miss Anna picked up the phone to call on the ambulance Mr Bubber hurriedly stopped her from making the call. PLEASE!!! He cried, help my wife deliver as he had no money to take care of the hospital bills, Mr Bubber fell down on his knees and pleaded with nurse Anna to help his wife deliver. He said “you are not just our family nurse but you are also a dear family friend please help my wife deliver”. Mr Bubber cried as he continued pleading. Miss Anna was moved with so much compassion, she replied I will help. Miss Anna ran towards Mrs Bubber and said to her, take a deep breath calm down. Mrs2 Bubber who is a middle aged Hispanic woman, screamed with a loud voice; I’M IN PAINS! As she tried pushing the baby. Push! Push!! Nurse Anna screamed looking out for the baby’s head while Mrs Bubber’s legs were wide opened. Your almost there said Miss Anna as she tried to pull the baby out. Ah....!!! Mrs Bubber screamed with a loud voice, few minutes later the baby was born. Miss Anna was shocked when she noticed the baby had no hands, Mrs Bubber noticed the shock on her face and asked Is everything ok? yes everything is fine just relax Miss Anna replied in a cold shaky tone as she quickly tried to hide the baby from Mrs Bubber. Can I see her now Mrs Bubber Asked? Oh yeah sure why not Miss Anna replied, handing over the new born baby to her mum in a wrapped baby blanket, She’s so cute said Mrs Bubber. She admired her beautiful new born baby girl. Mr Bubber came in with so much joy on his face, tears dropped from his eyes as he looked at his new born baby girl. They had been childless for twelve years, Mrs Bubber also broke down in tears as she saw how emotional Mr Bubber got after seen his new born baby. Mrs Bubber pushed down the blanket and tried to hold her baby’s hand but discovered her baby was handless from her elbow downward. Mrs Bubber was shocked, Mr Bubber noticed the shock on her face and asked, what’s wrong my dear? Mrs Bubber looked at Mr Bubber and replied she has no hands. Mr Bubber screamed in shock and quickly pulled down the blanket to see for himself. Mr Bubber fell down on his face and groaned in so much pains after seen that his daughter had no hands. After all this years of childlessness we managed to have a child and she has no hands? Are we cursed or what? Mr Bubber said in a loud voice. No you don’t have to say that Miss Anna replied as she tried to calm Mr and Mrs Bubber down. Miss Anna gave Mr and Mrs Bubber encouraging words concerning their new born baby, they both understood and accepted the baby for how she was, but suddenly Mr Bubber walked out and shut the door in anger but miss Anna continued to encourage Mrs Bubber and Mrs Bubber named the baby Adi which is a Hebrew name meaning ; Beautiful, serious and strong. Adi began to grow in beauty, wisdom and strength. Adi became a surprise to her parents as she was able to do a lot of things even without having hands like writing with her mouth amongst others. Adi is already 5 years old and her challenges just got started due to her regular bullying by other kids. Adi was very beautiful as she possessed so many qualities which made old and young admire her and wonder why she was handless, she was also admired by so many people due to her level of intelligence and strength.4 courage even while bullied for been handless. Adi was playing with her pet guff, a small hairy puppy while Mrs Bubber walked in, hey mum Adi exclaimed joyfully and ran towards her mum Mrs Bubber. My angel Mrs Bubber replied and hugged Adi tightly. Mum please can I ask you a question? what is it my angel Mrs Bubber replied with so much fear and anxiety, I hope you’re fine my darling girl! I’m fine mum Adi replied but, I’ve always wondered why I am handless you have never told me anything about my hands and how I ended up this way, I hate the way other kids look at me whenever they see me and I hate how much I’m been bullied by kids here and in school, mum what happened to my hands? Mrs Bubber bursted out in tears and held Adi so tight and said to her you were born this way my love. Adi bursted out in tears and her mum said to her you are a special child, you are our miracle after twelve years of childlessness, your hands were replaced with your beauty and brains, you’re unique and different from other kids, always know this and never allow anyone talk down on you. Mrs Bubber continued talking and she handed over a mirror to Adi. This is a gift I kept for you and I think this is the right time for you to have it, whenever you wake up look at this mirror and say this 5 things to yourself; I’m beautiful, I’m unique, I’m special, I’m outstanding and I’m great. Adi took the mirror with tears in her eyes she looked at her reflection5 and looked at her mum’s face, she smiled and said thank you mum, I’m grateful. She hugged her mum and went back to play with guff, Hey guffy she laughed and ran happily playing with her little puppy. Mrs Bubber stared at her and smiled with tears rolling down her eyes, my baby is growing so fast Mrs Bubber said to herself in a small voice. Adi was really loved by her mum but neglected by her dad because of her handless condition. Mr Bubber was never close to Adi right from when she was born till date, but Adi loved Mr Bubber so much and tried every way to get close to him but always got humiliated and insulted by him and she always ended up running back to her mum for support and encouragement. Adi was like a daughter to Miss Anna, she was loved and cherished by miss Anna even more than her own family, She could tell miss Anna anything as a child. Miss Anna was Adi’s best friend, she was always part of Adi’s childhood. Eleven years later Adi turned sixteen, it’s her sixteen years birthday. Mrs Bubber and miss Anna bumped into Adi’s room with so much joy. Waky! Waky!! they said as they opened her window cotton and sang a happy birthday song for her. Hello birthday girl Miss Anna said to Adi as she pecked Adi’s cheeks, wow! You are so grown my Adi girl Miss Anna said. Adi got emotional and hugged6 Miss Anna. Mrs Bubber gave Adi a Teddy bear, a card and kisses on her Fore head, I love you so much Mrs Bubber said, you have brought so much light and joy into our lives and I’m proud of you and the woman you are growing to become, you are so beautiful beyond words. Miss Anna interrupted, hey enough of the emotional speech let’s get the birthday girl ready. Ready for what?! Adi asked with so much surprise, Miss Anna and Mrs Bubber giggled, don’t worry you will see, they carried her from the bed to get her ready. Now when Adi was finally ready they exclaimed in surprise as they admired how gorgeous she looked in the gown they prepared for her. Adi was dressed in a pink gorgeous ball gown and a silver tiara with diamond earrings which was a gift from her mum. Adi was 5.2 feet tall, she has thick long silky brown hair that was up to her waist length, she had a beautiful skin colour that is as bright as snow, she has blue eyes, pointed noise and beautiful pink lips. Indeed she is very beautiful beyond words. So Mrs Bubber and miss Anna blindfolded Adi and took her downstairs to a big surprise birthday prepared for her. Her school friends and neighbours were invited, it was so big and Adi became so emotional. Wow! everyone is here Adi said as she looked around and saw her friends and those who also made fun of her all there to celebrate7 with her, but she discovered that only one person was not there, where's dad Adi asked Mrs Bubber and miss Anna while she continued looking around. My love Mrs Bubber said as she held Adi’s cheeks, look around everyone is here because of you, I don't know were your dad went but I'm sure he'll be here in no time, don't let anything spoil your day, be happy and enjoy your birthday I'm very sure daddy will come in soon. Adi hugged her mum after hearing this and went to meet her friends. Adi was celebrated in a huge way, She was very happy and overwhelmed by the level of love shown to her on her birthday. She never imagined anyone will come celebrate with her as she never had any close friends of her age, she had friends in school and at home but she was never really close to them. Few weeks later Mr Bubber got a new job in Texas and they relocated. It's a beautiful morning and Adi is happy as she is going to be attending a new high school. Oh mine Adi yawns and stretches as she woke up from sleep, today marks a new stage of my life Adi said to herself, time to get dressed as she hurriedly gets prepared for school. Adi...come down for breakfast Mrs Bubber screamed, I'm coming mum replied Adi as she hurriedly puts on her clothes, she picked up her mirror stared at herself and said, I'm beautiful, I'm intelligent, I'm unique, I'm special8 just as her mum told her when she gave her the mirror as a gift eleven years ago. Adi hurried downstairs to have her breakfast, mum I'm done, Adi said as she hugged her mum and hurriedly went to school. Let me help you put your bag pack on Mrs Bubber said as she helped Adi fix her bag pack, I'm so happy my baby girl is growing so fast, I'm proud of you Adi Mrs Bubber said as she paused and held adi's cheeks, go out there and conquer my girl you're a strong girl, you're the best, go and make me and your dad proud I believe in you so much and I love you. Mrs Bubber said and hugged Adi tightly, ok time to go your bus is here, Mrs Bubber said as she escorted Adi to the bus. Adi happily went into the bus, surprisingly she said to herself oh mine as she saw teenagers staring at her in a weird manner, she walked in shy and frightened, her heart began to beat fast, she moved straight to the back and sat with a boy who was sitting alone. Is anyone here she asked? No you can sit, the boy replied. Hi said the boy to Adi, hi replied Adi to the boy in an uncomfortable tune, first time I guess? asked the boy, yeah I'm a new student replied Adi. I'm new too said the boy. What's your name? I'm Adi what's yours? I'm John, replied the boy. Nice to meet you John, same here Adi. Few minutes later they got to school, Adi had mixed emotions because she didn't like the reaction of the students when she entered the bus, whoooo....Adi took a deep breath, you can do this Adi she9 said to herself in a low tune and came down from the bus with the other kids. Adi looked around with surprise, wow this is beautiful, the structure, the flowers, the sit out, everything is beautiful. I hope I'll truly be happy here Adi said as she walked inside the school, Some of the students looked at Adi in a disgusting manner while the other students looked at her with so much pity as she walked pass the Hall way. Adi bends her head down, feeling so uncomfortable and inferior, she hurriedly entered into an empty class, sat on one of the desks and put her head down in tears. Excuse me.... Said a girl who tapped her shoulder you're on my sit, said the girl to adi, oh I'm sorry I'm new Adi replied as she tried to wipe her eyes with her shoulders, oh mine you're handless, screamed the girl in surprise, Adi quickly ran out of the class. She bumped into John and almost fell, oh I'm sorry john said as he stopped Adi from falling. Thanks John Adi said, have you been able to locate the class John asked, no I haven't replied Adi. Come with me John said, they both went into the elevator and arrived at the 3rd floor and John led Adi into the class. Adi walked into the class already sad and the students stared at her and murmured to themselves, while others laughed. Adi ignored them and went to an empty sit close to the window, sit here and don't mind them John said to10 her. John helped Adi remove her bag and fix on her desk, I'll get you a locker during break time John said to Adi. Thanks John you're too kind Adi said as she was surprised at John’s kind gesture. Adi sat quietly while John went to his desk at the back. Few minutes later the class teacher miss Joan a slim, tall dark lady walked in. Settle down miss Joan screamed as she cat walked quickly into the class, the kids quickly settled down. Okay so we have a new student who is joining us today, she is Adi, I want you all to welcome her, miss Joan said as she points to Adi, the students went to welcome Adi with a hug, now I want you all to love and support Adi, she's now part of us, don't make her feel bad or bullied for any reason, love and support her miss Joan told the students with a big smile on her face, the students all replied together yes miss Joan. They started the lesson for the day and surprisingly Adi answered 3 difficult questions which made the students and teacher be in great shock. John, was so happy that despite adi's condition Adi was so intelligent and extremely beautiful as well, she's pretty and intelligent John said to himself as he began having a crush on Adi, I think I'm crushing...he giggled to himself and the other pupils looked at him with surprise. Hey you miss Joan pointed at John, why are you laughing? nothing ma'am John replied, John stared at Adi throughout the11 class, Adi looked back and her eyes were caught up with John's eyes. He's so cute she said in her mind and quickly turned forward and smiled. It's break time and Adi had a weird feeling about going for break, today hasn't been all good Adi murmured to herself, don't know how the students will react when they see me at the cafeteria. I know what you're thinking but don't worry I'm here to help you said a voice coming from behind, Adi turned and saw John standing behind her, let's go John said as he tried to help Adi up. Adi stood up and their eyes met again, they both blushed and quickly turned their faces away, they both acted shy and confused. John shyly showed Adi the way to the cafeteria, they both got to the cafeteria and saw lots of teenagers everywhere, I'm going back to class Adi said as she quickly turned her back to go. No stop, don't be scared I'm here with you replied John as he blocked Adi from leaving and helped her to the food stand. No one noticed Adi so she felt relieved and calm, relax John whispered to adi's ears, John picked up a tray and picked adi's food. John made Adi feel comfortable and made sure no one noticed her, he stylishly fed Adi to no one's observation and they left. After school that day Mrs Bubber came to pick Adi, Adi narrated everything that happened to Mrs Bubber and Mrs Bubber suddenly got an idea to give Adi a beautiful note book that she can use as a diary writing down all her experiences in school,12 Adi was excited that she got a dairy and that night she wrote her first experience in high school. Which was both sweet and soar, writing was adi’s hubby, she knew how to write from age four with her mouth all by herself. The Next day adi's bus arrived and Mrs Bubber called Adi, Adi.... your school bus is here, Adi hurried down to the bus and went straight to the back sit. Adi smiled as soon as she saw john and she wasn't bothered about the other kids anymore. Hi Adi John said looking straight into adi's eyes, Adi blushed and replied in a calm tune, hey John, they both giggled and chatted on their way to school, few minutes later they arrived and John pulled Adi by her elbow, come he said while dragging Adi with him, wait.... Adi said laughing and running with John, they laughed and ran into the school, they played and laughed so hard until they got to their class, they didn't mind the kids who stared at them with so much surprise. Few minutes later miss Joan walked in hurriedly, with papers in her hands, she looked really unorganized and the kids wondered what she was up to this time. Okay settle down everyone and a big morning to you all, now you will be writing an essay, we talked about essay yesterday, so you can't fail this test, miss Joan said to the students. She passed the papers while she continued talking, you will be writing an essay about your first experience in high school, nothing13 more than 200 words, while miss Joan kept talking the kids grumbled and murmured because they weren't informed earlier about writing a test and they weren't prepared, but Adi was calm and happy about the sudden test, she smiled because she had already written down her experience in the diary her mum gifted her the previous day. Adi picked up her pencil with her mouth and began writing and the students looked at her with surprise but Adi wasn’t bothered rather she was focused in writing her essay and within ten minutes she was done. I'm done miss Joan Adi said, miss Joan walked down to adi's desk surprised, picked up adi's paper and read through, she was amazed at how Adi was able to write with her mouth and the writing was neat, the spellings were accurate and adi's essay was interesting, miss Joan looked at Adi again, she thought to herself, what an extraordinary child, miss Joan moved back to her sit, went through adi's work again and in the process began to cry, Adi noticed miss Joan had tears rolling down her eyes while going through her script, the other kids didn't notice because they were still writing, Adi looked around to see if anyone else noticed that miss Joan was crying, but discovered that no one did, so she stood up and walked to miss Joan, ma'am is everything alright? Adi asked miss Joan. Miss Joan looked at Adi tapped her back and said, you're an amazing child, you're extraordinary,14 I'm surprised at how you were able to write this with your mouth your story is really touching but is all this true? miss Joan asked, yes ma'am Adi replied with a sad face. I can imagine what u must have gone through but I promise to always support you dear, if anyone makes you feel uncomfortable, don't hesitate to tell me, miss Joan said and who is John is he in this class? miss Joan asked, yes Adi replied trying to point at him. John was still busy writing so he didn't notice Adi and miss Joan talking about him, okay miss Joan replied, you can go back to your sit dear miss Joan said to Adi. Five minutes left miss Joan said in a loud voice, I'm done the kids said as they raise their hands up one after the other. It was closing time already and Adi ran out to meet her mum but bumped into John. Hey! Adi I didn't see you during break, were did you go? I looked for you everywhere. I went to watch the cheer leaders at the hall, I'm sorry I didn't tell you Adi replied, ok said John while walked with Adi to meet her mum. Hey sweetie Mrs Bubber said with her hands wide open, Adi ran to hug Mrs Bubber tightly while John stood by her side and greeted Mrs Bubber, you must be John Mrs Bubber said staring at John with a smile, yes ma'am John replied, wow Adi has told me a lot about you. Thank you for taking care of her and been a dear friend to her, please keep supporting Adi, I will ma'am John replied. Adi and Mrs Bubber entered the car and drove home. Bye John, Adi15 and Mrs Bubber said while waving at John, bye...John replied. John is cute said Mrs Bubber while Adi blushed, mum!!! what I just said he's cute Mrs Bubber said laughing and looking at adi's facial expression. I know mum Adi said with a big smile. They arrived home and later that day Adi wrote about her experience in school, while writing she was lost in thoughts thinking about John and smiling to herself. The pen dropped from Adi's mouth and Adi realized herself and smiled. You're In love Adi, she said to herself while staring at her reflection in her mirror. Adi was so happy to go to school the next morning because she knew she would see John, she had her breakfast and ran outside to wait and when she sighted the bus she jumped with so much excitement, she hurriedly entered the bus and ran to the back to sit with John, but John wasn't there, Adi's smile faded instantly, she was so sad and disappointed, oh let me text him she said to herself but she discovered she didn't have his number or social media handles, Adi became restless and started sweating profusely, where's John, why isn't he here, is he okay, she asked murmuring to herself, the bus arrived school and Adi couldn't move from the chair as she was extremely troubled and worried. Hey ma'am we've arrived school said the driver to her, everyone is out already except you, I hope you're fine? I'm fine Adi16 replied as she quickly came down from the bus and ran into her class, while running to her class, she was lost in thoughts and bumped into John, she gave John a tight hug and started crying, why did you do this to me, why did you hurt me so bad Adi said while she laid her head on John's chest and wrapped John with her elbows, I'm sorry john said, I didn't want to take the bus today, Adi lifted her head and looked straight at John, but John didn't want to look at Adi, what's wrong John Adi asked with a shaky voice, did I do something wrong to you? Adi asked but John hurriedly ran away from Adi, what's wrong with him Adi said as she was left in shock. Adi asked herself so many questions and walked to class very sad with tears rolling down her eyes, she got to class, went to her desk, looked back but couldn't see John, she turned back to the front after few minutes she looked again, this time miss Joan had entered and lectures had begun, but John was still nowhere to be found, Adi remained calm but had a fast heartbeat, Adi couldn't concentrate and then she quickly ran out of the class to look for John, Adi..... Adi... miss Joan called but she didn't reply she just ran hurriedly to look for John, she searched everywhere in the school but couldn't find John, Adi went to a side of the school wall outside and cried bitterly, she went back into her class, miss Joan paused and moved straight to Adi, are you okay my dear, miss Joan asked? I'm fine ma'am Adi17 replied, you know you can tell me anything miss Joan said, don't worry we can talk during break okay? okay Adi replied. Adi and miss Joan spoke during break, Adi opened up to miss Joan and miss Joan felt so sad for Adi because miss Joan was informed that John's parents where moving out of the city, so John will be leaving the school, miss Joan bent her head down feeling sad and pity for Adi, but she had no option than to tell Adi the truth. No....no....no...no Adi cried with so much pain, miss Joan quickly held Adi and tried to comfort her, I'm In love with John, he's the only friend I have, what will become of me, no one here likes me, no one comes close to me, because of John no one bullies me, how will I cope Adi said as she cried bitterly. You have to put yourself together, don't let the other students see you like this, miss Joan said while trying to comfort Adi, but Adi was so broken and couldn't get hold of herself, miss Joan quickly called Mrs Bubber and explained everything to her, in three minutes Mrs Bubber came to take Adi home. Adi was so broken that even Mrs Bubber couldn't comfort her. They arrived home, Mrs Bubber helped Adi into the house as Adi was so weak and couldn't walk by herself, she was still in shock and couldn't control her emotions, Mrs Bubber took Adi upstairs to her room, Mr Bubber was at the sitting room reading his news papers, he paused and looked at both of them, what's wrong with her he asked Adi was rushed to the hospital and she became better. John stayed back with his grandparents and continued schooling there, their love grew stronger and finally adi and John got a scholarship to further education because of how brilliant they were. Years later adi became a doctor and had a foundation for disabled people, John also became a doctor and they both excelled in their jobs and finally got married. they gave birth to three beautiful children and after a while Adi's mum Mrs bubber had another baby and they all lived happily ever after.
