"Lexi, I...I can explain," Phillip, my husband, stammered, rushing up to buckle his pants.

"Explain?" My voice was dangerously flat, almost inaudible and shaking with rage. "Explain what, exactly? How you decided to cheat on me with my best friend?"

Rachel, to my horror, had the audacity to smirk to my face.

Gosh! I feel like lounging at her.

"Lexi, don't be so dramatic," she purred, stretching lazily like a cat.

Dramatic?

"How long?" I snapped, stepping closer. "How long has this been going on?"

Phillip sighed and ran a hand through his messy hair. "Lexi, listen—"

I cut him off. "For how long?"

Rachel chuckled, unbothered. "Does it really matter though?"

My hands trembled, and I clenched my fists, forcing myself to stay in control. I turned to Phillip. "And the money? The money I was saving for my father’s treatment. Did you take it?"

He hesitated. Just for a second and that was all the confirmation I needed.

CHAPTER 1
Lexi’s POV I stormed into the sitting room, tossing my purse onto the center table as I frantically searched the safe, my fingers shaking as I spun the dial. The moment the door swung open, my heart dropped into my stomach. The envelope was gone. No. No. This couldn’t happen. Panic crept in. I was already running late for my trip to the hospital, and now the money I had hidden away for my father’s treatment was missing. Taking a deep breath, I rushed to the drawers and cabinets in the kitchen. My heart pounding hard in my chest, I muttered under my breath, "Where could it be?" I grabbed my phone and dialed Phillip’s number. He didn’t pick up. I tried again, my grip tightening as frustration was now rippling inside me. "Phillip, where are you? "I need to talk to you... and it's about my money!" My voice was sharp and laced with desperation. I paced restlessly, back and forth. Then I felt something strange—a faint voice. My breath hitched, and I froze on the spot hearing the voices. It sounds too close. Who else was inside? I thought I was alone in this house. Narrowing my eyes, I strained my ears. And then realization hit me like a blow to my face. It was Phillip. I turned toward our bedroom, agitated. My hands balled into fists as I approached the door. The second I moved closer to the door, I realized the voice was not just a voice, they were soft moans drifting from inside. Inside my matrimonial room. The thought of it made my stomach churn. I felt nauseated. No. Phillip wouldn’t. He couldn’t do this to me. Without thinking, I shoved the door open. And there he was, sprawled on our bed, his shirt unbuttoned, his pants undone. His arm draped over a familiar figure. Rachel... My best friend. She curled around him, her lips brushing his neck as she let out a soft, satisfied moan as he made his final thrust. The air was thick with the unequivocal scent of s*x and alcohol. For a long, excruciating minute, everything around me came to a halt. My heart beat so loudly that I could hear it. Then, Phillip’s eyes met mine. "Lexi, I...I can explain," he stammered, rushing up to buckle his pants. "Explain?" My voice was dangerously flat, almost inaudible and shaking with rage. "Explain what, exactly? How did you decide to cheat on me with my best friend?" Rachel, to my horror, had the audacity to smirk at my face. Gosh! I feel like lounging with her. "Lexi, don't be so dramatic," she purred, stretching lazily like a cat. Dramatic? "How long?" I snapped, stepping closer. "How long has this been going on?" Phillip sighed and ran a hand through his messy hair. "Lexi, listen—" I cut him off. "For how long?" Rachel chuckled, unbothered. "Does it really matter though?" My hands trembled, and I clenched my fists, forcing myself to stay in control. I turned to Phillip. "And the money? The money I was saving for my father’s treatment. Did you take it?" He hesitated. Just for a second. And that was all the confirmation I needed. "Phillip!" My voice cracked. "You stole from me? For what? To fund your little affair?" He had the nerve to look away, shame dancing in his eyes. But Rachel? She simply laughed. "Relax, Lexi," she said, her tone dripping with mockery. Phillip needed some fun. You're always so busy with work and taking care of your father. He just wanted… a little comfort." I took another step forward, my entire body shaking with fury. "Comfort you say?" My voice eerily calm and low. "You call betraying me comfort?" The air became tense and silence befell the room. And then a voice broke the silence behind me. My heart dropped on hearing the familiar voice of Victoria, Phillip’s mother. She was the least person I would want to see in my current situation. "Lexi, I think you are overreacting." I spun around to see her dressed so elegantly in a tailored dress. She stood in the doorway with a smug smile on her face, her arms crossed like she had been anticipating this moment. "What are you doing here?" I inquired, my nails now digging into my palms. Victoria’s smile widened. "I just happened to drop by to visit my son." Her gaze flickered to the bed. "And I must say, I'm pleased with what I’m seeing." She revealed and, to my utter surprise, her eyes gleamed with approval. I blinked. "Pleased?" My voice hoarse. "You’re pleased to see your son cheating on his wife?" She waved her hand dismissively, shaking her head. "Oh, don’t be so naive, Lexi. "If you were truly taking care of your husband’s needs, he wouldn’t have had to look elsewhere." I sucked in a sharp breath. My blood ran cold. She wasn’t just approving his behavior. She was justifying it. But it doesn't look like she'd be done anytime soon. "I had suspected the problem was with my son," she continued, her gaze sweeping over me like I was some filth that needed to be tossed aside. But now? Now I see the truth. You're the one who is incapable of bearing children, aren't you? Who knows what you've done to your womb?" My breath hitched. The room spun. Rage flared inside me like a wildfire. "How dare you?" I snapped, but it wasn't with fear. It was with pure, unfiltered fury. Phillip finally had the decency to speak. "Mother, please. This is between Lexi and me." Victoria let out a small spout. "Fine, dear. Have your little talk. But mark my words, Lexi, you were never good enough for my son right from the start." With that, she turned on her heel and walked out, leaving me standing there, shocked. A heavy silence settled over the room. I turned back to Phillip and Rachel. My so-called husband. My best friend. Rachel stretched her arms above her head and let out a lazy yawn. "Well, that was dramatic," she mused, her lips curling in amusement. I stared at them, my mind suddenly clear. I was done. Done being lied to. Done being manipulated. Done being betrayed. I straightened my spine and met Phillip’s gaze. "You don’t deserve me," I said, my voice eerily calm. Then, without another word, I turned around and walked out. But as I stepped out of the room, the barrier I had built let loose and emotions crashed over me. Hot tears spilled down my cheeks. I have lost my best friend. My husband. And the trust I gave out. But one thing was certain. I wasn’t going to lose myself.
