Prologue
I was walking toward my room when I suddenly heard groans. I stopped in my tracks and turned my head toward the slightly ajar door. That was my stepfather’s room. Closing my eyes, I tried to suppress the curiosity building up inside me. I knew this would only lead to trouble, so I took a step away—but then I was frozen completely in place. “Ohh! You feel so good, Quin! You’re so amazing!” My breath hitched. That was definitely not my mother’s voice. I stood there, paralyzed, unable to move a muscle. “Shut up!” my stepfather retorted. “Ahh! s**t! s**t! I'm gonna c*m!” the woman shrieked. “f**k!” Fueled by sheer irritation, I approached the door and flung it wide open. I gasped, struck with shock at the sight of my stepfather kneeling on the floor, removing his used condom. My gaze shifted to the bed, where a naked woman lay face down with her eyes closed. My stepfather, who didn't have a single stitch of clothing on, turned to face me. My heart hammered wildly against my chest as our eyes locked. He raised a strict, questioning eyebrow at me. “What? Want to be f****d too?” he asked me mockingly. I clenched my fists and glared at him with pure hatred. “What are you talking about?” the woman on the bed chimed in, seemingly completely oblivious to my presence. Yoaquin stood up and stepped toward me. Instantly, a wave of embarrassment washed over me as my eyes caught sight of his towering, massive weapon. I hated myself for it, but I couldn't understand why my body refused to move. “Disgusting!” I spat out heavily, turning my back on him. Yoaquin just grinned at me. With my heart pounding furiously, I felt like I could never look him in the eye again. Confused and deeply shaken, I headed straight to my mother's room. I threw her door open and found her getting dressed, looking like she was about to head out. “Ma,” I called out. “Oh? What's the problem?” she asked. “I saw your freaking husband having s*x with another woman. Is that seriously okay with you?” I blurted out. She paused and walked over to me. She was smiling, and I couldn't see a single trace of pain or hurt in her eyes. I couldn't comprehend it. “My child, let him be. It's better than him laying a hand on you. Would you prefer that?” she replied, still smiling. My brow furrowed deeply at her response. “What do you mean by that?” With a smirk, she stepped closer and gently stroked my hair. “Adrianna, whatever you see and hear inside this house, you must remain blind, deaf, and mute, okay? Let Yoaquin live his life, as long as we’re doing fine and living comfortably, it’s fine. While we are under his care, we will never starve. We get everything we want. Isn't the orphanage struggling with its financial funds? This is our only way to help them. So just leave him be, okay?” she said. I could only nod weakly, even though my mind was in complete disarray. I never expected to hear those words from my own mother. Was she really just accepting his infidelity? I was so confused. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. “I’m leaving. It’s best if you lock yourself in your room for now. His woman is still in the house, she might pick a fight with you. Don't let yourself be seen by them for now. I'm off, bye. Just order whatever you want online. Next time, I'll go to the mall with you,” she added. I was about to speak, but there was nothing I could do because she had already walked out the door. She was probably heading to the casino again. I sat down on her bed and let out a deep breath. The scene I had witnessed earlier kept flashing repeatedly in my mind. I swallowed hard and shook my head. “No, I shouldn't be thinking about that. I can't let these wicked thoughts get the best of me.” The mere thought sent shivers down my spine. Standing up, I finally left my mother's room. But on my way back to mine, I froze when I crossed paths with my stepfather. He was shirtless, wearing nothing but black trousers, with sweat still glistening on his forehead. He stared at me, and I immediately averted my gaze. His eyes felt magnetic, almost drawing me in. They were striking and intense, making me feel dizzy. It felt dangerous to even breathe the same air as him. I couldn't hold his gaze because of an unexplainable tension. I attempted to brush past him, but he suddenly grabbed my arm and pinned me against the wall. My eyes widened; there were barely a few inches of space left between us. Yoa gently gripped the back of my neck, and my hands trembled as he leaned in closer. I closed my eyes as I felt his hot breath against my neck. I tried to wriggle out of his grasp, but he only tightened his grip. “I know you feel it too, Adrianna,” he whispered, his voice husky. I was completely rooted to the spot. I swallowed hard as his cool breath brushed against my earlobe, making my knees nearly buckle. Thankfully, he caught me. He smirked as if he had just won a game. “Careful, you get on your knees so quickly.” He stepped back, shoving his hands into his pockets as he looked down at me. His expression had turned serious now, almost angry. “Next time, knock on my door before you enter. Didn’t your mother teach you anything about my privacy?” “I-I’m sorry, it’s not my mom's fault,” I stammered. “I’ll discipline you myself next time. Just relax for the time being. I’m not doing anything bad to you, but you act as if I’ve hurt you. Or are you just disappointed you didn’t get to join us earlier?” he teased. “In your dreams!” I snapped at him. Yoa simply shrugged. My eyes betrayed me, and I couldn't help but get a clearer view of his incredibly toned physique. His biceps and triceps were perfectly defined. Even his chest down to his rectus abdominis was exceptionally sculpted. I felt like I was committing a sin just by looking at him. “Enjoying the view?” he asked. I quickly turned my back on him. “I'm an easy man to talk to, Adrianna.” I ignored him completely and kept walking. The hair on the back of my neck stood up at his words. He was too much. He was making me lose my mind. I shouldn't be feeling this way, but he was just so bizarre. I had no idea what my mother saw in that man other than his wealth. His gaze was terrifying. He was like a psychotic pervert.
