KABANATA 2

Genie had successfully retrieved an invitation for Silver. She used her father's name and acted as a representative, taking her persistent best friend as her date. So, they’re currently carrying the name of Regional Director Guillermo Galvez tonight. She reminded him over and over again to never act out even just for tonight or else she’ll never hear the end of it from her father.

Silver just pretended to be listening but he was actually busy looking around the whole venue, everything in the party screams elegance and luxury. From its exquisite design to the melodic orchestral music in the background, halatang pinag-isipan ng mabuti ang bawat detalye para sa party na ito.

But it’s the Detangcos so all of these were already given.

"I heard the new CEO is the only daughter and the youngest of the Detangco siblings," pabulong na kwento ni Genie kay Silver bago sumimsim sa wine glass na hawak.

"They broke their history?" kunot-noong tanong ni Silver bago ngumiti at nagtaas ng kopita bilang bati pabalik sa kumaway sa kanya.

"You've been with Mr. Detangco a lot before. You should know he had a soft heart and I think it was softer for his children. He lets them do whatever they want," paliwanag ni Genie bago ibinulong kung sino ang lalaking kumaway kani-kanina lamang.

“Really?” bulong ng binata sa sarili kasabay ng pag-angat ng sulok ng kanyang mga labi. He could hear Genie talking about the man who just greeted him but his mind was still trapped with the curiosity he have for that Detangco heiress.

"Nakita mo na ba--"

"It's about to start," putol ng kaibigan niya nang makitang umakyat na sa stage ang organizer ng party.

So instead of insisting, he chose to keep quiet and just diverted his attention to the master of ceremony that was currently enumerating the accomplishments of the newly elected CEO.

The host was wearing a glittery green suit that immediately stood out. He was about 5’7 tall at medyo magalaw habang nagsasalita sa stage. Silver shook his head nang bahagya iyong sumakit.

"Let us all welcome the new Chief Executive Officer of the DTC Entertainment, Ms. Chassis Savannah Detangco!" Sabay nang malakas na palakpakan ay ang paglabas mula sa gitna ng stage ng isang matangkad na babae. She was wearing a dark navy blue silk gown embroidered with beads and sequence of the same color. The dress hugs her very curvy figure. Ang mahaba at itim na itim nitong buhok ay mataas ang pagkakatali kaya naman ay kitang-kita ang makinis at maputi nitong likuran.

"She's hot," nakangising bulong ni Silver kay Genie habang titig na titig sa babae sa harapan.

"Save that for later, Silver," saway ng kaibigan sa kanya. Nanatili lang ang ngisi sa mga labi ng binata habang pumapalakpak.

"So, it's not entirely the Detangco Corp.?" wala sa sariling tanong niya habang pinapanood ang dalaga sa stage na maglakad papalapit sa podium kung nasaan ang microphone.

"Inuunti-unti lang ang pagpapasa sa kanya para hindi siya masyadong manibago and besides, DTC Entertainment is not bad for starters since iyon ang pinaka-stable sa company nila," paliwanag ni Genie habang nananatiling nakatingin sa babaeng nagsasalita na ngayon sa stage.

Nagpalakpakan ang lahat matapos ang speech ni Savannah. Everyone were mesmerized by her so called beauty and elegance. She was adored too because of the things she had accomplished at her young age. Kaya naman halos hindi pa siya nakakababa ng stage ay pinagkukumpulan na siya ng mga taong gustong-gustong makausap at makipaglapit sa kanya.

When the food were serve, people had to leave her and eat dinner. Inikot naman niya ang bawat table para makapagpasalamat sa mga bisitang dumalo. Nang makita ni Silver na palapit na ito sa table nila ay agad siyang napangiti. Savannah stood beside him at humawak sa likuran ng upuan niya while asking the guests if they were comfortable before thanking them once again for coming.

Hindi na napigilan pa ni Silver ang pagtitig sa dalaga habang kausap nito ang iba pa nilang kasamahan sa table. Nang tumuon ang pansin nito sa kanya ay halos manlaki ang mga mata ni Silver nang may mapagtanto.

He was so surprised to see her furrowing her brows while looking at him. Halos hindi siya makagalaw dahil roon.

How come?

Nabalik lamang siya sa wisyo nang pasimple siyang sikuhin ni Genie. Nagtataka pa niyang tiningnan saglit ang katabi ngunit nang ibalik niya ang tingin kay Savannah ay roon niya lang na-realize na nakaumang pala ang kamay ng dalaga sa kanya. Nagmamadali niya iyong tinggap at bahagyang pang pinisil ang kamay nito.

"I'm sorry. I was just too mesmerized by your beauty, I was out of it for a moment," he said smoothly before kissing the back of Savannah’s hand like a real gentleman would do.

"By the way, I'm Silver Jacinto from CGC," pakilala niya sa sarili. Bahagyang bumaba ang tingin niya sa magkahawak nilang kamay nang maramdaman niya ang bahagyang pagpisil ng dalaga rito.

"CGC? You mean... Cin Group of Companies?" malumanay ang pagkakatanong ni Savannah nito but Silver’s an expert when it comes to human voices, he can somehow know how people feel by the way they speak and he can confidently say that her words were laced with mockery.

"Yes, Ms. Savannah," mapreskong sagot sa kanya ni Silver. Ilang sandali pa siyang tinitigan nang mariin ng dalaga bago nito marahan at pasimpleng binawi ang kanyang kamay mula sa kanya.

"Well then, it's nice to finally meet you, Mr. Jacinto. I've been hearing a lot about you," she said formally na nagpangisi sa binata.

"Really? A lot about me, huh?" Silver was impressed with the confidence that comes along with every word she was saying. But what really amazed him was that he could clearly see her eyes. Ang mala-abelyana nitong mga mata na mapanghamong nakatingin sa kanya.

"Yes, Mr. Jacinto. When I say a lot about you, you wouldn't want me to enumerate those things for you, right?" she retorted back, her every word was laced with mockery and contempt. Silver was pretty sure that he had already left quite an impression on the lady, given the subtle hostility her tone carries.

Kung normal lang itong babae ay malamang na iritado na siya sa paraan nang pagsasalita at pagsagot-sagot nito sa kanya, pero naiiba ito.

There’s something special about this girl.

He wasn’t sure how long this would last. But he was happy to recognize a face even just for a brief moment so he took his time staring at her pretty face.

And for the first time after three years in his life…

“I think, I’ll somehow remember this girl,” he uttered under his breath as he watched Savannah smiling at the people on the table next to theirs.
