Chapter 1
Raven
I turned off my television after watching a romance movie and stared up at the ceiling. Why is love so cruel and selfish when it comes to me? Why can't I have that kind of love?! I was in a relationship for 7 years. Seven. We're basically high school sweethearts. Engaged for 3 years and then married for 6 months because why? He cheated. After years of my life being wasted for someone who doesn't find me enough.
We both signed the divorce papers 1 year ago and, wow, I was staring at my phone a while ago that he is f*****g engaged to the woman he cheated on me and that led me to watch a romance movie to let out my tears.
"Hey, sweetpie.." My dad entered my room. After being divorced, I lived with my parents for a while because the heartbreak can't take it when I'm alone and I'm grateful for my parents to be with me at this phase of my life.
"Hi, dad. I know... I'm fine. I cried because I watched a movie that's it." I stated where I know he's not going to buy that excuse. He smiled warily.
"It has been a year, Raven and we want you happy.. your mother knows someone that has someone..." I blinked confusingly at what he said.
"Dad, what are you trying to say?"
My father sighed heavily. "Your mother and I set you up for a blind date. Just once, my dear. Just try it and if it doesn't work then... it will not." I stare at him and instead of saying no, I agreed. But I know it is a selfish move because I thought of making my ex be jealous that I'm also happy without him in my life and that I want to show him that I don't need him. The man that my parents set me up for may help with that.
Few days later the blind date that was arranged by my parents has come. I wore a wine red colored backless dress and my 6-inch heels. I swiped my red lipstick onto my lips before I got out of the car.
The blind date is held at some private place wherein the whole place was actually rented that's why there's no people in sight.
"Hi, I'm Raven Buenavente." I introduced myself to the staff and smiled at me as she led the way.
I got there and saw him. My body froze for a bit as I saw him. Well, f**k my life indeed.
"Thank you," I smiled at the staff that guided me here and as she left my smile faded. "I think I know you."
He looked up to me and his blue eyes met mine. "You do know me and I do know you." He stood up and guided me to my chair.
"Do you know that I'm the one who's going here tonight?" I asked. He sat down his chair and drank a bit of wine before answering. "No. I was forced to be here."
I nodded coldly at that.
"I know you need me and I need you too." He started and I stared at him in confusion. What does he mean by that?
"I don't need you, Mr. Grey." I said, seriously. "I don't need love at this moment. I don't need sympathy. I'm fine. I-" he cuts me off mid sentence as he chuckles.
"Who said there's a word 'love' going to be involved? I hate love. I need you to pretend for me." His dark brooded eyes stared at me like I'm sort of a business deal he's willing to get.
"Is this some sort of deal?" I asked and he nodded.
"Pretend we're a couple." He stated the deal.
I blinked once, twice, and I offered my hand for a shake. "Deal." I smiled and shook my hand as an agreement.
He's a very famous person. He's a high-powered lawyer who has good principles in his life. A man that is untouchable at least for me, because he is the man that every woman wants to date. I don't know why he doesn't date and I have no interest in knowing about his life that deep. I just need to pretend that I'm his girlfriend.
As we finished dinner, we're both silent. Probably because we're both processing on what just happened and thinking on what to do next.
"The moment you're with me the media will go crazy." He warned like I don't know that.
"You're Raoul Elijah Grey. It's expected. Your brothers' names are in the media too, so I will not be surprised anymore if my name pops, and I'm used to it. Don't forget I'm Raven Buenavente, CEO of Buenavente Real Estate," I smirked.
He smirked a little at that. "So you know my brothers?" I nodded at his question.
"And I also know you're my ex's boss." I chuckled but he was silently serious.
"Ethan Ruiz." I froze as I heard the name of my ex. "Yeah, I know him." He added. "He's a good lawyer but not the best."
I looked at him and instantly his eyes were on mine. What if I ordered him to fire my ex? I smirked at my evil thoughts.
"Can you fire him?" I asked and he chuckled at that question.
"No. He's doing his job." I rolled my eyes at that.
"Yeah, apparently he fell for a client."
"He what?"
I looked at him and he also looked confused. "Didn't you know? The woman he's engaged to now was his client." I chuckled painfully as I remember.
"That's against my rules. No personal feelings involved with a client unless it is family. Well I guess I do have a reason to fire him now, eh?" He smirked.
I shook my head. "Your call." I drank my wine and he nodded.
"Tomorrow morning. Meet me in my office. Tell my secretary your name. Even if I'm in a conference meeting or a meeting with a client, your access will not be denied."
That was the last thing he said to me before we part ways. We exchanged numbers and socials too. Now, I'm going to go back to the company where my ex works. Funny thing 'cause I might see him tomorrow.
