The surprising news that arrived to me yesterday left me speechless. All throughout that day, I was lost and angry at the same time but still, nakisama pa rin ako. I'm not that rude. Sa ngayon bumalik ulit kami sa bahay ni Kailani at kagigising ko lang. I wore comfortable clothes that I bought mula sa isla while reading books that is in my shelves. I only slept 2 hours thinking about that unexpected revelation. Sino ba namang mag-aakala na anak pala ako ng Spirit Martial?! It's too much for me to handle. Okay na ang reincarnation ko dito but being the son of the lost King of Spirit Casters?!! Putang ina talaga. Binigyan ba naman akong malaking problema na napunta sa mainland at binigyan pa ako ng misteryo?!
"What the hell did my father do?!" I exclaimed habang binasa ang ika-pitong libro. Binitawan ko ang libro and held my head.
According to the books I just read, the Spirit Martial is reborn if he dies. It might be his son or any part of the family but being in that title runs in the family. Paano malalaman ng mga tao na may bagong Spirit Martial o wala when in fact my father just vanished?! How can I possibly live a life like this?
I don't actually care about it since this body might be mine but my memories do not belong here but a part of me wants to find out what happened. It's like something I should do or be responsible for. Well, finding out mysteries while learning magic doesn't sound so bad but I was wondering why mom hid this very important information from me. She must have reasons and whatever her reasons are, I should find out.
Tumayo na ako at nagtungo sa higaan pero napatigil ako sa bintana when I saw Kailani outside. He was sitting under the tree while sipping a cup of coffee. He looked scary as hell. His cold eyes were piercing my body and every time he glanced in a different direction, nakakapangilabot. It's the exact opposite of how he usually teases me. I wonder what his true self is. Is it how he faces and teases me? or Is it how he faces his brother?
He suddenly stopped sipping his coffee and glanced up at me. He took the cup off from his mouth and gave me a warm smile. This two-faced guy is creepy, his creepiness gave me chills down to my spine. I had no choice but to smile back. He gave me a signal na puntahan ko siya so I nodded. Lumabas ako sa room at sinalubong ako ng mga maids at butlers na naglilinis. They bowed down and I forcibly smiled, okay lang naman hindi, hindi naman ako isang royalt-- right, I'm the son of Spirit Martial so I'm one of the royalties too. The true royal blood runs through my veins after all. I smiled at them and signalled them to stand up and they did. One of the butlers suddenly came to me and walked in front of me. He must have known na pwede akong maligaw sa laki ng bahay na ito.
Sinundan ko lang siya habang tinitingnan ang buong paligid. No family picture. Iyon ang una kong napansin. Sa grand staircase, there was a huge frame pero picture niya rin lang, wearing a small crown.
"Kailani is so lucky being a prince," I whispered at biglang tumigil ang butler kaya napatigil ako. He glanced back at me looking so pissed. Did I say something wrong?
"Please do not mention anything like that in front of us or to our Master, Your Highness," he said coldly.
"Y-Your Highness?" I asked.
"Our Lady told us to handle you with extra care because you're the son of the Spirit Martial but I cannot tolerate what you said." he answered. That f*****g lady is talking too much. No wonder he looked pissed, he must be so angry knowing that I'm the son of the Spirit Martial who abandoned this land.
"O-Okay, I'm sorry. I was just envious of Kailani's place and lifestyle," I answered and he looked more pissed. "What's wrong?!" I asked.
"Didn't you wonder why he lived alone here in this spacious mansion?" he asked at natauhan ako. He's right. I shouldn't have stuck up my nose to someone else's business. "He's been living alone in this house for 16 years. We took care of him since he was 5 so we know how he feels about living with someone now. I'm not allowed to tell you anything but I can give you advice, Your Highness." he said seriously kaya napalunok ako. "First of all, do not mention about him being lucky as a prince since that's the worst thing that happened to him. Second, do not ask anything about his family and the castle. Lastly, do not abandon him." he added.
"Abandon? I will never abandon a partner!" sagot ko naman.
"Abandoning runs in your blood, Your HIghness. I'm hoping you won't run away and leave him. You're all that he has now and forever." he replied with a smirk. Now that I think of it, my father abandoned Kailani's father so he must be thinking that I'll do the same thing.
I unbuttoned my shirt and showed him the mark that Kailani gave. I clenched my hand as I held the shirt while showing my chest.
"My father marked Kailani's father." I said. It's true. I read the book. "But I'm marked by Kailani. I don't own him but he owns me. No matter where he goes, I need to be there. The only moment that I won't be by his side is when I'll die while protecting him or I'll be left alone if he abandons me. If those things will never happen, then I'll be by his side." I added and I can see that he was surprised. I'll stay by his side no matter what happens, kahit minsan nakakainis siya, I'll always be here. He might never know but he saved my life. He broke my shell and that's the reason I'm here today receiving some unexpected news.
"If that's the case," he said with a sad smile. "I'm happy to hear that," he added. What the hell happened to Kailani at pati mga butler niya napaka-protective? "We'll leave the rest to you, Your Highness," he added and he suddenly kneeled down and bowed. I heard steps from behind kaya lumingon ako, the others were kneeling too.
"Please protect our master," they all said in chorus at napalunok ako but I eventually smiled. Look around you Kailani, you've been surrounded by such good people. I envy you.
Tuluyan na akong lumabas sa bahay at naglakad papunta sa garden kung saan ko nakita si Kailani. He was still there but he was not holding his cup anymore. Instead, he was holding a pink rose. Siguro kung babae to, nagustuhan ko na itong taong to. He's too pretty to be a guy.
Linapitan ko siya at napalingon siya sa akin.
"What took you so long?" he asked and I was caught off guard. Should I say what happened or?
"Yeah, I just talked to your maids and butlers," I said with a nervous smile.
"About what?" he asked.
"W-Well, u-uh, they called me Your Highness so I asked them why. It turned out that your Aunt told them the truth," I answered. Well at least, this is true.
"That's it?" he asked. Seriously?
"Yeah," I answered and glanced away. "Why did you call me here anyway?" I asked and glanced back at him.
"Well, I was lonely so I called you," he answered. Normally, I would be pissed off but based on his butler's words earlier, this isn't something I should be angry about.
"So, what do you wanna do?" I asked at natigilan siya. He glanced at me with his eyes widened. "What?" I asked.
"You're not pissed off?" he asked.
"Is it something I should be pissed at?" I asked.
"Normally, yeah. You have anger issues." he replied and yes, I'm now pissed.
"Maybe I should go back to my room," I said at hinawakan niya ang braso ko habang nakangiti.
"I was kidding," he said with a bright smile at kumunot ang noo ko.
"Kailani," I called.
"Hmm?" he answered, still wearing his bright smile.
"Are you always like this?" I asked
"Like what?" he asked with ... still his bright smile.
"You smile, laugh and even tease me but when you face the others, you're cold as ice. Which is the true you? Why don't you treat me like the others?" I said coldly and his smile vanished. Binitawan niya ako and he closed his eyes as he took a deep breath. The moment he opened his eyes and stared at me, I was stunned. His cold black eyes are painful to handle.
"Cygnus, both of them are true," he answered. "My face and mood depends on who I am talking to. I can't just happily greet the person I really hate can't I?" he asked. He's got a point. "If you are referring to how I treat my brother compared to you, it doesn't concern you. As far as I can remember, you're just my partner, not my family," he said coldly and the mark in my chest started to hurt.
"T-That's not what I meant," utal-utal kong sabi.
"Then what?" he asked coldly at napalunok ako. I glanced away because it's not like I don't wanna answer his question, I just can't. "Now let me ask you a question," he suddenly said and he grabbed my collar. He pushed me into the tree's trunk and he leaned forward. "What face do you want to see? I got plenty of faces here," he added and he leaned more. I can feel his breath into my ears already. "I can give you every face you want to see," he added again.
I tried to resist but he was just too strong.
"Kailani, stop." I said coldly.
"Answer me, Cygnus." he answered. "That's an order," he added and I gripped into his back because of the pain from the mark he gave. So far, ito ang pinakamasakit.
"I liked your brighter self," I answered and he suddenly lifted his head but he leaned papunta sa mukha ko and I panicked. Diyos ko, kung babae pa lang ang taong ito, hahalikan ko na ito para tatahimik na siya.
"So be it," he answered with a bright smile. Bipolar. "Sabihin mo lang kung ayaw mo ng ganitong mood," he said with another bright smile, "I'll treat you coldly," he added with a cold smile and he touched my lower lip with his thumb. "Are we all clear, Cygnus?" he asked and I nodded without doubt.
I shouldn't have asked that.
