“It was my sister Dakota.”
“Dakota?” he asked in a surprised tone. I nodded at him. “Where is she now?”
I bit my lower lip, and I almost laugh seeing he got distracted by my action. “She’s sleeping.”
“You know what? You’re not good at lying,” he commented.
It earned a smirk from me. “Oh dear, you don’t know how I look like when I am lying.”
As the current mayor of this town, one thing I practiced is the perfection of lying in front of someone. The twitch of my eyes or lips, the change in my breathing pattern, the misdirection of my gaze even my hands and feet gestures, the sweats on my forehead—everything.
