#20 What are cherubims? Being tested!

What are Cherubims?

The cherubim are a group of angels recognized in both Judaism and Christianity. Cherubs guard God's glory both on Earth and by his throne in heaven, work on the universe's records, and help people grow spiritually by delivering God's mercy to them and motivating them to pursue more holiness in their lives.

Some said they are the guardians of throne second only to Seraphims. God assigned the cherubim angels to protect the integrity of the paradise that he had designed perfectly, so it wouldn't become tainted by the brokenness of sin.

Recorders in the Universe's Celestial Archive

Cherubim sometimes work with guardian angels, under the supervision of Archangel Metatron, recording every thought, word, and action from history in the universe's celestial archive. Nothing that has ever happened in the past, is happening in the present, or will happen in the future goes unnoticed by the hardworking angelic teams who record every living being's choices. Cherub angels, like other angels, grieve when they must record bad decisions but celebrate when they record good choices.

Marahas na lumingon si Kranz sa kanan niya at nakita niya ang isang lalaking nakaitim, nakaupo at tila may binabasa sa hawak nitong notebook.

Dahil sa mga nakaraang nangyari, at sa katotohanang isang anghel ang yaya ng kapatid niya nagulat man si Kranz ay hindi naman naging malaki ang reaction niya.

He thought fast and put his phone on his ear. "Who are you?"

"The name's Zin, a grim ripper."

"You know the universal language," he stated calmly.

"What do you expect from someone who's in business for hundreds of years? Anyway, hindi ako namamalagi sa iisang bansa lang kaya h'wag kang magulat kung marami akong alam na iba't-ibang lenggwahe." Isinara nito ang hawak na notebook at hinarap siya. "I've been observing you from far away. I don't easily trust humans but from what I saw, I think I can give you a try."

"What do you want?"

"Don't get me wrong human, I am also gambling here so I want nothing big from you."

"Say it," he said with a little impatience.

"A little impatient are we?" Zin paused for a while then went on. "I want you to protect that young cherubim."

"Maimin? She's a cherubim, beings that second only to Seraphims. She's already powerful enough," he answered. "How can you seek a mere mortal to protect a celestial?"

"Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Hindi lahat ng nakasulat doon ay totoo. Ano bang alam ng mga tao tungkol sa mga nasa itaas? Totoong may hierarchy sa mga anghel at pumapangalawa lang ang mga cherubim sa mga seraphim. You know, angels are creatures made by the highest god but once in a while they pick few deserving souls that can transform into cherubims. They will be put in a test without them knowing they're being tested."

"So Maimin is one of those few?"

"And a special one."

"Why?"

"I can't tell you the details." Zin sighed then looked outside the window. "The young cherubim grew up in Celestial Palace, this is the first time she came down to the mortal world so she naturally didn't understand the complexity and darkness of human nature."

People are unpredictable and Kranz knows it. Zin was asking him to protect Maimin not from her enemies but against humans. After all there are many things that can influence a pure mind in this slowly rotting world. And once an angel is tainted it is impossible for her to go back to where she came from or worst, a heavy punishment will impose from the heavens.

"How long will she stay here?" Hindi alam ni Kranz kung bakit bigla siyang nakaramdam ng uneasiness habang hinihintay ang isasagot ni Zin.

"The duration of the test is one year."

Too short...

He just realized that he likes her and then someone suddenly came out and told him that the girl he likes will only stay in this world for a year? Is this god trying to kill his budding feelings?

Zin secretly peek at the human beside him and taking in every little expression he has. Hindi niya masabi rito na hindi isang coincidence ang pagkakakilala nila ni Maimin. Kranz and everyone around him is a part of Maimin's test at ang lalaking ito ang magiging pinakamahirap na pagsubok.

'That damn Lareikan!'

Ikinuyom ni Zin ang kamao. Kung kaharap lang nito si Lareikan ngayon ay malamang na nasapak niya na ito. Wala siyang pakialam kung Seraphim ito, may usapan sila pero lagi nito iyong binabalewala. Ang akala siguro nito hindi siya napupuno.

Bibigyan niya ito kahit isang bigwas lang para kumalma siya kahit kaunti.

"What else do you want me to do?" Narinig niyang tanong ni Kranz matapos ang saglit na katahimikan.

"Please make her happy while she's here."

Before Kranz say his answer Zin already turned into smoke and disappear in front of him. He's speechless, put down the phone and sighed.

"I hope I can make her happy."

Maayos na ang pakiramdam ni Maimin at nakakaya niya na ring tumayo. Naibalik na rin ang nawala niyang kapangyarihan kaya ngayon maayos na ang pakiramdam niya. Ang sabi ng doktor pwede na siyang lumabas pero hinihintay pa nila si Kranz bago sila umalis. Ang sabi ni Charles pabalik na raw ito.

Inilibot ni Maimin ang tingin sa simpleng ward na kinaroroonan niya. Parang kailan lang ay nagpunta rin siya sa ospital na ito para kumpletuhin ang misyon niya. Oo nga pala, kamusta na kaya 'yong magandang binatang nawalan ng alaala? Maayos na kaya siya?

Wala si Charles sa kwarto at medyo nababagot na rin si Maimin kaya naisipan niyang lumabas.
