Chapter Eight

503 Words
Everything was a blur. Kuya Winston and I excitedly finished our meals at the cafe and eagerly went to his house after. It was an hour and a half drive from the hospital but got held up in a traffic. He asked for an afternoon off at his work and we were chatting nonstop in his car. We even stopped by at the mall to buy toys for his kids and bought flowers for Ate Thalia. It was when he took a shortcut that almost ended our lives. We were driving slowly since it's dark already because of the upcoming storm but a quick, black Ford Everest car crashed into us leaving us heavily wounded and bleeding. It was the seatbelts that rescued us from an even bigger complication. My head bumped into the roof of the car and I had scratches from the broken windshields. Kuya Winston, who was behind the steering wheel, suffered more. He has his neck braced because of the impact and was bleeding profusely on his arms. He tried to protect me from the broken glasses hitting us as we crashed into the car then to the big narra tree at the side of the road. He knew that further damage to my eyes will then lead to permanent blindness. He knew how important these were to me. But had himself injured most. He's a pediatrician! His arms and hands dexterity are much more important to him than it is to me. He does things with his hands. He can not afford to work with injured ones! I was greeted by blurred visions of hospital lights when I opened my eyes. I have my spectacles before we got here. I'm wondering where the hell are they. I was hearing voices and they become clearer when the door was opened. "Clari!" Came Risa and another two male voices. I gave them a small smile and struggled to look at them thru my awkward position on bed. "I'm with Chef Dranreb and Chef Yuan todah. Boss Onyx and Chef Allana will visit you later this afternoon. " Risa said and caressed my arm. She was referring to our noodle chef and "How are you, Clari? Are you hurt, anywhere?" Chef Dranreb, our grill chef, asked. "We already called the doctor. Actually, Yuan did that. Hehehe." He grinned. "Excuse me. " the doctor came as if on cue. He checked my stats and even my eyes. "As of now, the patient is conscious and there were no major damages in her vital organs as per her previous lab tests. All we are concerned now are her eyes." The doctor said and I heaved a sigh as I looked at him. "I will schedule an ophthalmologist to attend with you soon. But, the soonest will be this Saturday. That is about, two days from now. Will that be okay?" He asked me. I nodded. I still have time to repent and pray for my body's full recovery and my line of sight be okay.
