Healing the heart of a billionaire: A story of love and redemption.Updated at Sep 9, 2025, 05:40
I knew I should’ve let her drive me home instead or call a designated driver. I thought I was ready and could do this again since it’s been such a long time, but I was wrong. I am not ready and I doubt I will ever be ready. I exited my car stumbling, my heart racing really fast and my breathing labored. When a car crashed as I was heading back from work, I instantly had a flashback to the dreadful incident that had followed and haunted me for years. That dreadful and horrifying night where I lost the most important people in my life. My mind began to spin and flood with old images of the horrific incident as I staggered through the rain, panicking. The sound of the truck colliding with the car, their shouts and cries, the smell of gas, fire and smoke, and their lifeless body laying on the ground flooded my memory and it became even harder for me to breathe. I immediately unknotted my tie in the course of struggling to catch my breath and fell to the damp pavement, my body trembling with tears and fears. It felt so real. I felt like I was there again, watching their body covered with blood and glasses shards as they were brought out of the the crushed car. I had the impression that I was still there, alone, helpless and unable to utter a word or move an inch. I was having a panic attack underneath the rain and no one was by my side to pull me out of it. “Aaron!! Aaron are you okay?”I heard a familiar voice call out my name so I immediately looked up to see my personal assistant, Maria, standing over me, concern and panic etched on her face. What’s she doing here? How did she find out where I was?She was holding an umbrella over me, shielding me from the rain for some few seconds before letting the umbrella fall to her side as she crouched down to my level. "I... I'm sorry," i gasped out. "I didn't mean to... I couldn't… I though I could do it but… I saw them get killed. I… I watched them..” I stuttered with jittery movements and voice laced with panic "It's okay Aaron. It was just an illusion.” Maria said, her voice soft, soothing and reassuring. “It felt real… I… I saw them.” I spoke. “Just breathe, Aaron. You're safe now. You're not alone. I’m here with you and I’m not going to let anything happen to you. Take a deep breath.” She assured again as he wrapped her arms around me then pulled me close to her chest, hugging me tightly yet warmly. She sat down next to me, her hand on my back as she ran them up and down my back softly. I could feel her warmth through my soaked shirt, and it was the only thing that kept me grounded and helped to steady my heartbeat. We sat there in silence for a few minutes, the rain drumming against the pavement as my breathing began to even out and return to normal and his heart rate slowed down.
