Emily is a professional event planner who agrees to become the faux girlfriend of the rich businessman Ryan for money. But can they find a way to true love in this web they have created?
SYNOPSIS
When a well-off but emotionally aloof businessman, Ryan, approaches Emily-she finds that her life has taken a sudden turn. The "business arrangement" is a fake one that would pacify Ryan's family and put him above media scrutiny. Emily is paid off with a big sum of money. A naive Emily doubts Ryan's intentions but agrees and sees it as a safe way to unburden herself financially.
Emily and Ryan, as initially intended, stick to their script: attend functions, take photographs, exchange courteous but superficial pleasantries. They keep an emotional barrier between them, aware that whatever connection binds them is a sham. Slowly, however, that wall begins crumbling. Emily sees that Ryan is most vulnerable, kind, and sweet; she begins being attracted by that side of him. Ryan looks at her in a different light. What should have been a simple arrangement turns emotion-laden and complicated.
Emily cannot help but manage to get jealous when Ryan's ex-girlfriend arrives. Simultaneously, Ryan's family starts to put pressure on him to take the relationship to the next level, leading to an official engagement. This in turn amplifies Emily's inner conflict-she's falling for Ryan, but she isn't sure what he feels, and there's really no way this relationship survives anything beyond the ruse.
As reality sets in for the doomed, staged couple, emotions run rife between the two. Feeling betrayed by Ryan for his ulterior motives, Emily very quickly finds herself developing an unexpected affection for Ryan. This external turmoil of the fake engagement strains emotions and relationships and catalyzes both characters picking up the pieces of themselves: their values and trust in one another, and what each wants from life.
In the end, both Ryan and Emily must come to that painful decision to drop pretense and enter into an earnest relationship founded on trust, vulnerability, and mutual respect, for in their journey to emotional development, ever did they learn that to possess love is not a choice made, but one done instead to search for, cultivate, and hold dear.
