Blurb

Lyria was once Lyra, a daughter of another pack, promised long ago to Travis, a wolf whose

bond with her had been as natural as breathing. But those days were shattered when her

family used her as a treaty bride, trading her to the Shadowfangs. Now she walks the stone

halls of their fortress, a stranger in a kingdom built on teeth and blood.

The Shadowfang fortress itself is alive with menace. Carved into the mountain, it feels more

like a predator’s ribcage than a home, with wolves that glare at her as though she is prey. At

its center stands Rein, the cold and ruthless Alpha who took her not out of love but

necessity. His silver eyes are as unyielding as ice, his presence crushing, and his rules

meant to strip her freedom and shape her into his.

From the beginning, she feels torn. Travis still haunts her thoughts, scarred and darker than

before, arriving in the Shadowfang halls with the same boldness that once made her heart

race. But Rein is a storm of his own.. dangerous, merciless, and bound to her now by treaty.

The Council watches her with suspicion, doubting her worth, and among the pack lurks Kael,

a scarred wolf whose eyes promise cruelty.

In this world, Lyria is a bride, a pawn, and a threat. Yet buried beneath fear and defiance is

something sharper: a will to survive, and maybe even to rule her own fate.

Chapter 1 : Fate
The road stretched endlessly beneath the wheels of the carriage, a ribbon of dirt winding deeper into Shadowfang territory. The forest pressed close on either side, its trees tall and dark, their branches clawing at the night sky. Lyria sat rigid against the velvet seat, her hands clenched so tightly in her lap that her nails bit into her skin. She was twenty-one, but tonight she felt younger, fragile, as if the years of training, of pretending strength, had been stripped away the moment her stepfather spoke the words that changed everything. You belong to King Rein now. It is decided. Her chest still ached from that moment. Her stepfather had not looked at her as a man giving away a daughter. He had looked at her as though he were selling a horse. A transaction. Her mother had said nothing, had not even met her eyes. The Lyra family had once been strong, proud. Her father, before his death, had led the pack with fire and dignity. He had told her stories of loyalty, of how wolves stood together, how family was the anchor that kept them from drifting into ruin. But when he died, things shifted. Her mother remarried, and her stepfather saw only power. She had become less a daughter, more a tool, and tonight was the proof. The carriage jolted over a stone, and her breath hitched. She glanced out the window, catching a glimpse of the forest bathed in moonlight. It should have been beautiful, but the shadows seemed endless, like they were swallowing her whole. Her thoughts drifted to Travis, though she tried to fight them. Her betrothed, her supposed mate, promised to her since she was sixteen. He had been cold even then, his eyes sharp, his words calculated, but she had believed time would thaw him. That beneath the steel, there was warmth. A lie she had clung to for too long. And now, even that lie had been stripped from her. The carriage slowed, and Lyrias pulse jumped. The air seemed heavier, colder. She knew they were close. When the wheels finally stopped, her breath caught in her throat. The driver opened the door, and icy night air swept inside. She stepped out, her slippers crunching against gravel, and her gaze rose to the fortress looming above her. Shadowfang Keep. It rose from the mountain itself, its stone walls black against the moon, its towers like claws reaching for the stars. Torches lined the gates, their flames casting jagged shadows across the courtyard. The keep was not built to welcome. It was built to intimidate. And standing at its gates was King Rein. He was taller than she remembered, his frame wrapped in black, a cloak trailing behind him like a shadow made flesh. His silver eyes found her instantly, piercing, unblinking. She froze under the weight of them. For a long moment, he said nothing. Just watched her, as though peeling back every layer she had tried to protect. Then, his voice cut through the silence. Low. Controlled. Dangerous. You came. Her throat tightened. I didnt have a choice. A flicker of something—amusement, perhaps, or annoyance—passed through his eyes. No one ever does. Her stomach twisted. He turned and strode toward the keep, his pace unhurried but commanding. She hesitated, but the guards flanking the gates shifted, their presence making it clear there was no other path. She followed, her steps light but unsteady. Inside, the keep was as cold as its master. The stone halls stretched high, banners of black and silver hanging from the walls. Torches burned steadily, but the light felt swallowed by the enormity of the space. Her footsteps echoed, too loud, betraying her unease. Rein did not slow for her. His stride was measured, confident, as though he already knew she would follow wherever he led. Finally, he stopped before a large oak door. He opened it and stepped aside, his gaze fixed on her as she entered. The room was vast, the bed large enough to dwarf her, draped in furs. A fire crackled in the hearth, but the warmth did little to soften the atmosphere. The windows overlooked the forest, but iron bars cut through the view. It was beautiful. And it was a cage. She turned to him, words burning her tongue, but his expression silenced her. He stepped inside, closing the door behind him with deliberate care. This will be your room,he said, his tone even, unyielding. You will stay here unless I allow otherwise. Her stomach churned. Youre keeping me prisoner. He tilted his head slightly, as though the word amused him. Prisoner. Wife. Treaty. Call it what you like. Her pulse raced, her hands trembling, though she fought to still them. I never agreed to this. Reins eyes sharpened, his steps slow as he closed the space between them. He stopped just a breath away, his presence suffocating. You think your agreement matters? His hand brushed hers, light, deliberate, yet heavy with warning. You belong to me now. And in my world, there are rules. The air thickened, and she struggled to breathe. His proximity was intoxicating and terrifying all at once, her body betraying her with every pounding heartbeat. What rules?she whispered. His lips curved into something that wasnt quite a smile. You dont leave this keep without me. You dont question me in public. You dont defy me… unless you are ready to face the consequences. Her chest tightened, but she forced herself to meet his gaze. And in private? His eyes lingered on her, studying her like prey that dared bare its teeth. He leaned closer, his breath brushing her ear, his voice a low promise. In private, well see how brave you really are. Her breath caught, her body shivering despite the fire. She wanted to step back, but her feet refused to move. His words curled around her like chains, binding, terrifying, but laced with something else—something she hated herself for feeling. Desire. He pulled away, his expression unreadable. You will have dinner sent here. You will not leave until I say otherwise. Rest. And with that, he turned and left, the door shutting behind him with a finality that made her knees weaken. Lyria stood in the center of the room, trembling. The fire crackled, the shadows danced across the walls, and her pulse refused to settle. She had thought herself strong enough for this. But nothing could have prepared her for him. Her hand brushed against the bars on the window, cold and unyielding. She had stepped into a cage. But cages could be broken. And as her eyes closed, one thought burned through her fear: Rein might think she belonged to him. But she would not surrender easily. Not to him. Not to anyone.
