SMELL OF SUCCESS

It was a cloudy evening that I had just finished my shift. That day was long and tiresome and couldn’t wait to go home. I walked out of my office gently to the parking area. As I was walking, I suddenly tripled and I dropped my car keys. I scrambled in the dark area to find it and I found it after a minute’s struggle. As I was rising up on my feet, I remembered that I had just left my phone in my office. I went back to the office only to realize that the lights on the corridor were scarce and I could hardly make out my steps, since they were partly off. Finally, I picked my phone from the office and on my way out I walked first since the time was running out. A black car hit me as I was running in the parking area when it was on its way out. I could feel the life flying out of my body as I relentlessly struggled to get out of the pain. But in the end the pain won and I was left unconscious. I cannot tell what had exactly happened between the times I was hit by the car and now when I woke up in a strange room, for I had no memory of the events succeeding my abduction. I woke up on a large bed in a gloomy room. It was cold and ghastly. The silence was deafening, which was however interrupted by the sound of wind beating up the roof of the building. I threw off the bed covers and checked if I had any injuries on my body. Found some scratches on my body which were already treated. Where was i? I questioned myself and ran my eyes across the room to see if I could find something but I was in vain. I banged the door with my hands which made my hand more sore due to the accident I had last night. Suddenly, the knob turned and I could see someone standing outside. The door opened and a man entered in the room. “How are you feeling?” He asked. “Where am I?” I asked. “Does where you are matters more than your life?” He ordered. He grabbed me by my neck. “You’re hurting me,” I cried.
