The Alpha’s Pregnant Mate
Updated at Dec 9, 2023, 16:25
Kayley has had a somewhat normal life growing up in the foster care system. Now that she’s about to turn eighteen she’s going to be kicked out of her group home. It’s time to find a job and a place of her own. What she doesn’t expect is this interview to change her life. Excerpt: I rose from my seat and hurried out of her office. I was trying to leave so quickly that I stopped paying attention to my surroundings. I knocked into something hard and next thing I knew I was flat on my butt. “I’m so sorry, are you alright?” I heard a deep, masculine voice ask me. It sent a shiver down my spine and the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. I raised my eyes and my breath caught in my throat. Kneeling over me with hands outstretched was the most attractive man I’ve ever seen. In his deep green eyes flashed recognition and something else I didn’t understand. A wide smile spread across his lips, showcasing sharp, white teeth. “Please tell me you didn’t hit that pretty little head.” His words snapped me out of my trance. Pretty? My face flushed. “Oh, um, no.” I blinked a few times and gazed down at his outstretched hand. I slowly raised my hand and slid it into his, when our skin touched another shiver rocked through me. He helped haul me up to my unsteady feet. He stood almost a whole head taller than me, dressed in a dark purple dress shirt and black slacks. I felt like I needed to physically stop my jaw from dropping. I don’t know how or when it happened, but our hands had entwined around each other. It’s almost like they were meant to be like that, they fit together almost perfectly. Being so close to him was a mistake, the smell of his cologne or aftershave was making my brain foggy. I tried to step away, but felt my knees almost buckle. A strong arm wrapped around my waist and I was pulled even closer to him. “Here, why don’t you come sit down?” I nodded slowly as I let him guide me to the giant office. When I looked around I noticed people staring, my mouth went dry. I tried to pull away and when he looked down at me I froze, captivated by his eyes. Those eyes searched me, watching me and it was like he read me like a book. “Back to work!” He snapped, causing everyone to look away. I physically relaxed in his hold and let him continue to lead me to the big office. He sat me in a chair, I watched as he closed the door and the blinds. He walked over to the mini fridge next to his desk and produced a bottle of water. “Drink.” He commanded in a soft voice. I flinched when the cold water hit my mouth. “What’s wrong?” His brows drew together as he gazed at me. “I, um, I don’t like cold water.” I readied myself for laughing and teasing, but it never came. Instead I watched as he walked over to the large closet and pulled a water bottle out of a new pack. “Trade?” We switched water bottles and I stared at him dumb founded. “What’s your name?” He asked after a moment. “Kayley Benson.” I took a long drink of the room temperature water. “What pack are you from? You don’t look familiar.” My brows pulled together. “What’s a pack?” I cocked my head slightly. “Where do you live?” He asked, avoiding my question. “Downtown.” “Who do you live with?” He crossed his arms across his broad chest. “Why?” I started tracing the lines on the water bottle as I stared up at him. “Just answer me, please.” His eyes were soft and pleading. “I-I live in a group home.” I felt my face flush. It was embarrassing being in the foster care system, but even more embarrassing living in a group home, never to be adopted. “How old are you, Kayley?” Hearing him say my name sent another shiver down my spine, I really needed to control these reactions. “I’m seventeen, I’ll be too old next year, that’s why I need this job.” I felt my shoulders slump. “What job?” He asked as he leaned against the desk, still standing in front of me. “I applied for the housekeeping job, but I’m not qualified for the position.” “You’re hired.” “What?” My head snapped up to look at him. “You heard me, if you want the job, it’s yours.” “But Greta said-” “And I write Greta’s checks.” His tone was final, I felt my face flush again. “You didn’t tell me your name.” I smiled shyly. “Hunter Wilde.” A handsome smile curved at his lips. “Kayley, are you aware that you’re a werewolf?”
