1. I’m not going
DANIELLA POV “I don’t care what you say, I’m not going.” Rosa spat the words at mom. Our mother was used to this behavior, however. Our parents used to tell us stories of our birth. How Rosa came screaming into the world and I came peacefully. My mother sat behind her desk with her hands crossed in her lap. She looked so poised, so perfect with her thick black hair flowing around her, her green eyes shining. “We have already paid the fees and filed the paperwork.” She replied calmly, Rosa looked like she was ready to explode. “I need to stay here so I can train to be Alpha.” Rosa gritted out through clenched teeth. Her words made me tense, this is going to get ugly. “Rosalina, we have told you again and again. You and Daniella won’t be Alphas, your brothers, Lucas and Leon, will take the titles when they come of age.” Rosa stood up from her chair angrily, almost throwing it back. I watched as she paced in front of our mothers desk, her thick, dark brown hair cascaded down her back in loose waves. I often wished I looked more like her, with her beautiful, deep caramel skin tone. I looked down at my pale hands and played with the ends of my medium brown hair. “So you’re telling me that because I wasn’t born with a c**k between my legs, I can’t be an Alpha?” My head snapped up at Rosa’s words. I watched as my mother placed her palms flat on her desk and slowly rose from her chair. “Rosalina, you will not talk to me like this, I am your mother. I know how badly you want to be Alpha, but it is not part of the Goddess’ plan for you.” She said in a deathly calm tone. “I don’t give a flying f**k what the Goddess wants! I am your first born child and the rightful heir of Crystal River pack.” Rosa growled low in her throat. I turned in my chair when I heard the door open. “What’s the meaning of this?” Papa Rafael asked as he looked between mom and Rosa. “Rosa doesn’t want to go to the college mama picked for us.” Papa Rafael’s eyes softened when I spoke, he gave me a slight nod before he turned his attention to my sister. “Rosalina, we’re sending you to this school to improve your education. Maybe one day you can be a strong Luna-” “I don’t want to be a Luna!” Rosa bellowed, cutting off Papa Rafael. I cowered into my chair and watched as they faced off. By the look in their matching silver eyes it seemed like they were mindlinking. Rosa's face twitched into a snarl and Papa Rafael’s face did the same. “Now that is enough, both of you!” Mama’s voice cut through the room, Rosa and I flinched at her power. Rosa simply crossed her arms, staring daggers at our parents. “You both leave tomorrow morning.” Mom said as she took her seat once again. “What?” Rosa exclaimed. “That barely gives us anytime to prepare you… you did that on purpose!” She continued, her face flushed with her anger. “Dani, will you have enough time to prepare?” Mom asked, bringing attention to me. Rosa turned, seemingly forgetting I was here in the first place. Rosa’s lips curled in disgust as she looked down her nose at me. “Y-yes mama.” I said, pulling my eyes away from Rosa to look back at our mom. Her eyes softened and a sweet smile broke out across her lips. “Great it’s all about Daniella, once again. You make it so obvious when you pick favorites.” Rosa grumbled as she stormed out. “Rosalina!” Papa Rafael called out, taking a half step towards her, but mom held her hand out, stopping him. “Let her go, she needs to cool off.” She murmured, her eyes watched Rosa’s retreating back. “Cool off? As if that will ever happen.” Papa Rafael laughed and mama rolled her eyes. Both of them knew how ridiculous she’d been since we were little. “Dani, I need you to keep an eye on her while you’re away.” Mama asked, bringing my attention back to her. “She won’t listen to me.” I shrugged slightly, Rosa and I never had a good relationship. It felt like she hated me since the day we were born. People always thought twins were supposed to have this amazing inseparable bond, but not us. I have vivid memories of her throwing me down slides and shoving me under water in the pool. “I know she won’t, sweetheart, but I just want you to keep a close eye and if anything goes on I want you to call me.” Mama said, her green eyes were soft and inviting as she looked at me. “Okay mama, I will, I promise.” I replied, giving her a small smile. “Go ahead and go pack.” She said, giving me a shooing motion. Papa Rafael ran his hand across mama’s back, soothing her slightly. I smiled as I hopped up from my chair and made my way down the hall to my bedroom. I paused when I noticed Rosa’s bedroom door was opened. Her black door with its red DO NOT ENTER sign was slightly ajar, giving me a glimpse inside. Her walls were dark gray with black trimming lining the room. She had posters covering almost every inch of her ceiling and walls. Her room was a complete disaster, piles of dark clothes were strewn across her floor. “What the f**k are you doing?” I jumped at the sound of Rosa’s voice behind me. “I’m sorry, Rosa!” I backed away, turning until our eyes locked. She did little to hide her disgust and hatred for me. “Stay out of my f*****g room!” She snapped as she stepped into her filthy room and slammed the door behind her. I scurried away towards my room that was unfortunately right next to hers. I sighed as I closed my large white door behind me, finally able to escape from all the drama that is my family. Unlike my sister's room, mine is extremely clean, there’s a spot for everything in my room. My walls are a pale gold with white trimming lining my room. Instead of posters I have shelves lined with books on one wall, the other has my small desk and my laptop. Then there’s my most prized possession, my butterfly shadow box. It’s like a picture frame, but not as flat and inside is over twenty preserved butterflies of different species. I closed my eyes and imagined myself standing in a field surrounded by hundreds of butterflies. I felt myself relax against my bedroom door, it’s going to be okay. Unlike Rosa I’m actually excited to go to college, I love science and biology. I actually planned on applying for a few schools before we graduated high school, but my mom told me it would be taken care of. Now tomorrow I will officially be enrolled at Our Lady of Night College and I can learn about all the things that make my heart happy. If luck is on my side I’ll barely see Rosa at school, she doesn’t like any of the things I like. I headed to my giant closet to pull out my travel luggage and slowly started packing. ROSALINA POV I let out a scream as I hurled my pillow at my bedroom door. At this moment I felt every bit like the disobedient child my parents believed me to be. That’s not what I am, that’s not who I am. Things are hard living inside someone’s shadow your entire f*****g life. It’s always ‘oh Dani was such a sweet baby’, ‘oh Dani is always so well behaved in school’, ‘oh Dani is just a perfect little angel!’ Always Dani, Dani, Dani. And me? ‘Rosa screamed every night when she was a baby’, ‘Rosa hit another kid at school’. Compared to HER I’m the spawn of Satan. I rolled my eyes as I yanked out my luggage from underneath my bed. I began absentmindedly shoving some clothes into my bags. It doesn’t matter what I take, it’s not like I’ll actually go to classes. I shouldn’t even be packing for this stupid school, I should be in the training grounds learning how to become an Alpha. I slammed my suitcase closed a little too hard, but I didn’t care. Rage was burning up in my throat and I could feel the familiar itch across my skin, I needed to run. Giving up on the packing I hurried over to my window and slid it open. The good thing about being werewolf with a little bit of vampire is that I can jump from two stories up and be completely fine. I jumped, hitting the grassy floor effortlessly and dashed for the cover of trees that circled our house. One great thing about where we live is that we’re in the middle of a forest. Just miles and miles of trees. I let out a deep sigh after I took my clothes off, letting my body contort into my wolf. As soon as my shift was complete I let my wolf side take over, running freely through the trees. I decided, once Lucas hits eighteen, I’m challenging him for the position of Alpha.
