Updated at Dec 28, 2020, 15:09
Let me do justice to this write-up by introducing who we are: The Oro people of Akwa ibom state constitutes five of thirty one Local Government area in Akwa Ibom state in the Niger Delta region of the Federal republic of Nigeria. Oro occupy a coastal stretch bordering the Ibibio of Uruan local government in the west; Oro the cradle of civilization could be dated back to Geon's which as a glorious history with Education. They were the pioneer host if early missionaries who travelled to Sub- Saharan Africa to introduce Christianity and education in most part if the world. Research as shown that as early as 1980's the first for indigenous professors from the University of Calabar were all Oronians the entire university was colonized by the Oro speaking people who make waves in their various field of academics that was the case the gives birth to the clinche ''OROPHOPIA'' Oro town was one of the most variable city in the South Eastern state trailing only Onitsha in Anambra State. The citadel of learning called Methodist boys high school, Oron in 1905, Hope Wendell institute, Calabar 1895 and TTC (1970's) has produced the earliest intellectual in the South-South zone of Nigeria. Unfortunately Oro does the ploughing, the ranking, the cultivation, the pruning and the weeding only for them to be excluded from the crew that takes charges of harvesting. This is a case of a deliberate marginalization of the people. Thus the main discussion for this article is to draw Our attention to the negative effect of Non existences of library and how it affects the reading population in our dear treasured Oro Nation. NELSON MANDELA once said that ''Education is the most powerful weapon that can change the world'' since a reading society is a knowledge based society and by extension a developed society, this weapon of change can only be achieve through the established of a well equipped and functional library in our commuity.
