Till Death Do Us Part

She remembers getting dragged further and further away from the throne room, towards her death. She can vaguely make out his face; cold and distant like usual. It’s impressive how he remains unaffected by the sight of her being handled this way, as if she wasn’t his wife. But such is the life of a person living in the inner palace. She’s learning this the hard way. To make matters more pitiable, this person does not even have an ounce of noble blood in her veins. She was a simple commoner in the country side that was only allowed into the prince’s palace to cover up a mistake done due to a lapse of judgement. Because the prince is a righteous and just man, he took responsibility and married her. She supposes she had this coming. She failed to consider the fact that even though she was his wife, she was no more than a leech in the eyes of those who desired him and the power he possesses. An unwanted thorn on the side. She was naïve and foolish and easily manipulated, who would want to pass up the chance? The companions that she thought would help her in her time of need turned out to be the snakes that bit her heel. Before sleep grabbed its complete control, she whispered to the air, “Let me dream for a while.” She woke up with a scream that puts howler monkeys to shame.
