Chapter 01: Disguising As An Ordinary Man
“You are applying to be her husband?” Grandma Silvia asked, surprised.
Gad Anderson now stands in front of the entire Campbell Family to apply for the position of being Flora Campbell’s husband.
The Campbells expected that no man would dare to claim Flora, so seeing Gad’s courage to go to their Villa to claim Flora surprised them, but it was this surprise that was quickly turned to laughter and more—insult.
“Well, it seems like this guy and Flora were really made for each other.” Aunt Sonya, Flora’s aunt, cried out a loud laugh. “Both of their trashy faces can make a blind kid cry, effortlessly.”
Lacey, Flora’s mother who obviously doesn’t like Gad, scanned her eyes on his dirty shirt and pants with disgust in her eyes and then she whispered to her husband, “Does he even take a bath? He looks like a rotting ass.”
Martin, Flora’s father, though hopeless, was still expecting that a rich man would still be interested in Flora. But just seeing the thick face of the man in front of them now only added to their disappointment with Flora.
“It’s your daughter’s fault,” Martin said, devastated. “Because of her ugly face, she even attracted a dinky man.”
“What else can you expect from your daughter,” Grandma Silvia began. “No rich man will be interested in claiming her. Only low class and stupid people like this man will.” Grandma Silvia turned her mocking face to Gad.
Grandma Silvia is the Chairwoman of The Campbells and she is the one who decides that she will marry Flora to whichever man gets interested in her.
All the Campbell members agreed because they were convinced that Flora was useless. Because of the big scar on Flora’s face, the name of The Campbells is tarnished. So they want her to disappear from their family, forever.
“But we won’t get anything from this poor man, Grandma,” Lacey stated, she really doesn’t like Gad. “Let’s just sell my daughter so that we can get a big compensation.”
“You choose. Will we get her tied to this ugly man or will she continue to defame our family?” Grandma Silvia glared at Lacey. “Don’t think someone rich will get interested in marrying your daughter’s ugliness. Even a crazy man wouldn’t do that.” She scoffed.
Flora stood to one side and looked down on the floor. Hearing their mockery, Gad couldn’t help but feel angry but he remained calm. “She just did, Mrs. Campbell.” Gad is madly interested in marrying the girl who saved her.
Everyone around felt confused on what on earth they just heard.
Meanwhile, Flora looked at Gad. She doesn’t know this ordinary man but she was kind of stunned by his confidence to talk back to her family.
Ten years have passed but Gad still cannot forget everything that happened. All of The Andersons are at their main villa to celebrate the birthday celebration of Gregg, the leader of the Anderson Family and Gad’s father. But the happiness turned to tragedy in an instant when a massive fire suddenly exploded all around the house.
His father died. All of The Andersons died, except him. Gad was the only one who survived the fire. But his life today would also be impossible if a girl didn’t save him ten years ago. He also remembered that the girl who saved him got scarred by the massive fire. And it was her, Flora.
Gad’s life became even threatening like a rat who was being chased by a cat when he confirmed black suited men were patrolling him. They must be the one who did the conspiracy that led to his family’s death. That’s why he immediately ran away. From there, he joined the Arsenal Military Troop, the elite military in the country that wins war after war.
He strived to work for his strength, and from then on, he rose and became the world’s top military commander.
Now that he is successful and renowned, he decided to return to his hometown to take revenge on the person behind the murder of The Andersons and finally, to repay the kindness of the girl who saved him back then.
“Let’s just let your daughter go disappear with this commoner,” Grandma Silvia laughed, they all laughed together, ridiculing what Gad had said earlier. “Sonya is right, they were made for each other. People like them should be put in the trash,” she added as she laughed again.
When Gad successfully found Flora who saved him ten years ago, he found out that she suffered from her own family’s ridicule because of the scar she got from saving him. And when he found out that her family was planning to marry her off, he immediately disguised himself, faked his identity, and pretended to be an ordinary man to apply for the position of being Flora’s husband.
That was Gad’s purpose, to make himself look like a commoner, ordinary, and a poor guy who only has one job with a low salary in front of The Campbells to convince them he is the same worth as her.
Flora is wearing the necklace, the expensive Celestial Locket, that was given to her by the man she saved a decade ago.
Gad walked closer to Flora. He was amazed at how Flora treasured the necklace he gave to her ten years ago.
“Hey, Flora!” Sandy interjected, she was Aunt Sonya’s daughter who obviously hates Flora for being ugly. “Since you will be a forever commoner now with this poor guy, this kind of expensive necklace will never suit you anymore.” She then pulled the necklace around Flora’s neck as she wore it immediately, smiling crookedly.
Flora gasped but had no choice but to look down and sighed.
“Hey, don’t worry,” Gad muttered reassuringly, catching Flora’s attention, confused.
The Celestial Locket that Sandy now has isn’t actually the real one but just a tracking device that helped Gad find her easily. And the real Celestial Locket that all of the girls had been dreaming of is actually in his possession.
It’s worth 30 million and Gad already decided on who the girl he will be giving it to.
“I promise you.” Gad holds Flora’s hand boldly as he speaks. “I will make you the happiest girl in the world.” And then he takes her away from that place, leaving them stunned.
