THE CURSE BEFORE BIRTH
Episode 1: The Curse Before Birth In a quiet village called Umuofia, there lived a beautiful young woman named Amara. She was twenty-four years old, married to a wealthy businessman named Chukwudi, and seven months pregnant with their first child. To everyone who knew her, Amara was a lucky woman. She had a loving husband, a beautiful home, and a child on the way. But behind the doors of her beautiful home was a secret that was slowly destroying her marriage. Chukwudi had changed. The man who once called her his queen now returned home late at night. Sometimes, he would go two or three days without speaking to her. Whenever Amara asked what was wrong, he would simply say, "I'm tired. Please leave me alone. "One rainy evening, Amara discovered a message on her husband's phone from a woman named Ifeoma. The message read: "My love, how long will you continue pretending that the woman carrying your child is the one you truly love? You promised me that after she gives birth, everything will change." Amara's hands began to shake. She read the message again and again until tears filled her eyes. When Chukwudi returned home that night, she confronted him. "Who is Ifeoma?" He froze. "Amara, where did you see that name?" Answer me! Who is she?" Instead of answering, Chukwudi snatched his phone from her hand. "You have no right to go through my things!" Amara stared at him in disbelief. "No right? I'm your wife! I'm carrying your child! And you are cheating on me?" Chukwudi said nothing. That silence broke something inside her. For the first time since their marriage, he slept outside their bedroom. Amara spent the entire night crying, holding her swollen belly. "My child," she whispered, "what kind of world are you coming into? Your father has abandoned us even before you are born." The following morning, Chukwudi left the house without saying goodbye. Amara's pain turned into anger. She remembered the sacrifices she had made for him. She had rejected a scholarship abroad because he begged her to stay. She had stood by him when his business was failing. She had even borrowed money from her family to help him start again. And now, this was how he repaid her. That evening, Amara went to her mother's house. Her mother, Mama Nneka, was an elderly woman known for her fiery temper. When she heard what had happened, she became furious. That man has destroyed your life!" she shouted. "And the child you are carrying will remind you of him every day!" Amara began to cry. "Please, Mama. Don't say that. The baby has done nothing wrong." But Mama Nneka was too angry to listen. She grabbed her daughter's hands and shouted: "Then let heaven and the earth bear me witness! If this child comes into this world through the tears of my daughter, may that child never know peace! May every happiness the child finds turn into sorrow! May the child suffer for the sins of the father!" "Mama, no!" Amara screamed, falling to her knees. But the words had already been spoken. Suddenly, the lights went out. A loud clap of thunder shook the house. And inside Amara's womb, the baby kicked violently. Amara clutched her stomach and cried out in pain. "Mama! Something is wrong with my baby!" Her mother stood frozen, staring at her daughter's belly. Then, from somewhere outside the house, a strange voice called Amara's name. Three times. Amara. Amara. Amara. And when the lights finally returned, Mama Nneka saw something that made her blood run cold. A dark mark had appeared on Amara's stomach. It looked exactly like a handprint. Mama Nneka staggered backward. "What have I done?" she whispered. But the greatest horror was yet to come. Because the unborn child had heard every word. And somewhere deep inside the womb, a tiny heartbeat continued beneath the shadow of a curse.
