PROLOGUE
"NAT, don't leave! Naaaat!"
My tears are pouring down as I shouted these words at the top of my lungs. The rain that showers me in the middle of the road where I am standing now is empathizing as it falls and makes my salty crystals seem invisible. I can't contain my hurt feelings anymore. I broke down as I am watching their family's car ride away from me and gradually disappearing from my sight.
The rain witnessed it. It saw me cry a river. It is the only thing that knows how hurt I am.
This is the second time I felt how it is to be left alone after my father died last year. He was there during my first heartbreak and I did not anticipate that he would cause the second one. At my young age, I definitely know that this scenario is breaking my heart again -something that not every fifteen-year-old boy might have experienced.
I stood up devastated, still looking at a distance hoping that Nat would return. I waited for him until darkness invaded our place but hope has gone astray for there was no Nat that appeared.
I woke up early the next day and headed towards our haven. As the sun came to herald the day, I started climbing up the hill that Nat and I used to climb, only that today, I am doing this alone. When I reached the top of the hill, it is all about hope- the morning breeze hugging me and the sun's rays kissing me. I smiled while facing the young sun. It felt good until I laid my eyes on that KobNat Tree which reminds me of him.
We were best friends and childhood lovers who had always enjoyed the company of each other. And climbing up the hill became our morning routine. We shared so much on top of that hill. The lone yet mighty tree located there is a witness of our friendship and young love for we even engraved our names "KobNat" on its trunk, hence its name.
Nat broke the pinky promise that we made on top of this hill under the shade of that KobNat tree. We swore that we would never leave each other as we gave each other a bracelet with our names on it.
"Hey, it is me. I'm here today... alone. He broke his promise. He left me without saying a word. You knew it, right? That he is gonna leave me. Why did he do it?" These words came out of my mouth while sharing with the tree what happened to us.
The mighty tree was our witness. And now, it is the only thing that could relate with what I feel right now.
I waited for it to answer. For how many months, I visited it and waited for it to speak. But, it did not even say a word... just like Nat who left without even saying "good bye".
