After the loss of her mother and stepfather, the hostility Suzanna Somers experiences at the hands of her stepfather's family prompts her to leave her home in Dublin and move to London.

Suzanna thought focusing on making a success of her medical career would help her forget all her pain and anger, that is until she meets her new boss. The infuriatingly attractive Erik Garrison, who having a strongly negative opinion of women, manages to make every day of her life at the private hospital a struggle.

Erik is certain that Suzanna is just another woman who uses her beauty to make her way in the world, but he soon becomes unsure of himself when she evokes dangerous sentiments in him.

When a dangerous enemy of the Garrison family invisibly steps into both their lives, will Suzanna and Erik's fiery passion get them through or will their mutual distrust have them at opposites once more?

Prologue
Suzanna stood trembling from fury. The harsh words of her  step aunt still rang clearly in her ears.  "He's dead now!  Are you happy? You and your gold digging mother killed my brother!!"  Meredith shrieked through her tears. "Meredith," Suzanna began, trying to control her voice, but the woman wouldn't let her. "I don't need to listen to a word that comes from your lying mouth. Get out!Leave, we don't care. We've tolerated your ...stench, your presence for too long," Meredith said coldly, her brown eyes filled with hatred. Suzanna stared silently at her, filled with suppressed rage.  "They haven't even been gone for two months..."  she finally said, the words stirring more pain in her heart. The car accident that took the lives of Suzanna's mother and her stepfather happened a month ago, the funeral a few days after. The grief still burned fresh in her heart. Suzanna had also been in the car and the healing wound on her side would always be a reminder. Knowing she'll never see her beautiful mother again had tears threatening to spill. Lauren Somers- well, Lauren Rollins,  since she married Chad,  Suzanna's stepfather - had been everything Suzanna could ask for in a mother. She had been gentle and loving, yet firm and strong.  She had never ever let Chad's dragon sister walk all over her. No, not her mother. She'd always had a sharp retort waiting on the tip of her tongue for any time Meredith wanted to start something. Which was why Suzanna would not show any weakness before Chad's family. She was, after all, her mother's daughter. And she'd be damned if she'd give Meredith the satisfaction of seeing her crumble. Suzanna turned to face a still fuming Meredith when the woman began to speak again.  "I could never understand what Chad saw in you and your w***e of a mother! Just your pitiful sight repulses me!", her step-aunt spat with venom, her brown eyes bloodshot.  The woman was angry. Bitter, really, and she was taking it out on Suzanna. On the wrong day. The words sent a dark torrent of rage crashing through Suzanna. Insults against her, she could tolerate, but when that woman began spewing filthy words against her mother...her late mother...that's where Suzanna drew the line. Drawing a deep breath, she looked at the hateful faces of Chad's family members. His two brothers who, like idiotic sheep, always let themselves be led by their elder sister. Besides them stood their practically mute wives. Chad had been the only one who ever stood up to her and did whatever the hell he wanted. Probably because he was older and twice her size. Suzanna respected him for that.  Keeping her anger at bay and with clenched fists, Suzanna strode towards Meredith and looked the woman in the eye, secretly wishing Meredith would try something. Anything to give Suzanna an excuse to wipe the floor with her face for all the s**t she put her mom through when Lauren married Chad. "Look," she began, pronouncing the word with a calmness she didn't feel. "My mother's... gone now. And so is Chad. The two of them were the only reason I ever  tolerated you, but they're not here, so you can just f**k right off, you bitter old hag! And you," she pointed dangerously at the other family members. "I swear I never seen people more pathetic in all of Ireland. You're disgustingly pathetic, grow some bloody balls and stand up to this witch, you idiots!"  Her breathing a bit labored from anger, Suzanna turned to Meredith with a cold smile and flipped her off so hard, her finger hurt. The shock on Meredith's face was laughable, if only Suzanna was in the mood to even smile. Throwing a final glare at the rest of the pathetic Rollins clan, she strode out of the house, looking more than gorgeous in her dark clothes, her fair skin and red hair contrasting beautifully. Slamming her car door closed, Suzanna took a moment to calm down, regretting her decision to stop by and inform them of her departure. God, they were a bunch of arseholes, really! She sighed and reached back for her seat belt. This drive to London would be long, but it was worth it.
