Preface: Just Beginning
Everything was just becoming wonderful, I was loved by my family and friends, dating the most handsome guy in the school, that I would never expect that would talk to me or even look at me. Everything was going just fine in my life, until one day it was just my mother, my father, my grams, and I. I was only about 15 years old. About to turn 16 in just about 4 ½ weeks. We were sitting in the living room, by the fire, father was watching some game on the tv. My mother n grams were talking to themselves about my party, I wasn’t trying to listen, but it was kinda hard.           My mother and grams were always close to each other, they were unstoppable, like no one can come between them. My father wasn’t all for my grams but had to live with her because of my mother sakes. Throughout the years, I never understood anything. The very upstairs there was a door, the attic, that my mother n grams would go to, be up there for hours doing who knows what. My father never went up there hardly. He says its for girls only. I tried to go up there, but I couldn’t. I wasn’t allowed to be in that room.           One day I was coming in the front door from getting off the bus from school my father and grams were fighting like they do occasionally. They didn’t see me come in, until I had asked; “What’s going on?” My mother was the one that came to me while they were arguing about something about me. She took me up to my room.   “Mother, why are they arguing this time?” I had asked. “It’s nothing dear.” She had said. “Daddy just telling her his feelings about everything. Same as always.” She always tells me.   For about I don’t know 10 minutes for so, I heard my grams to tell my father; “Get out then, if you don’t like it. Its who we are.” Then I heard the front door slam hard. I was guessing my father had left, like she had told me. Grams has told him I don’t know how many times to my father, to leave, he just never did. But tonight, he probably had it.           The next weeks has been a little crazy at the house, with my father gone. My mother and grams working they hardest to get things done for my birthday. But not just that, though. Since my father has left, there was less money coming in, my mother had to get a second job on the side, grams were selling some of gramps old things from the basement, that she had kept for some long time since he passed away when I was 5 years old.           The days had gone by fast, the next minutes I knew it was my birthday. I was 16 years old, becoming a woman. When I woke up my room had balloons, some gifts on my dresser, and a pretty baby pink dress, that my mother and grams bought me a few days ago, hanging on the hanger on the hook that was hanging on my closet door. When I got up, I had walked out my room to go down the hall to the bathroom to take a shower. I heard my mother and grams downstairs doing who knows what.           I hurried up and took a shower and went back into my room. Once I had went back into my room, I had taken my dress down from the hook on my bed, grabbed my bra and underwear out of my drawer, laid them on the bed. I finally dried myself off more with my towel then got dressed. Once I was dressed, I had brushed my hair and put it up in a ponytail. I slipped on my flats and went downstairs to where my mother and grams were at. They were setting the dinning room table up for breakfast, put the food on the table for us.           When they saw me come into view, they both looked up at me. My mother put her hands on her face like she was about to cry. My grams walked towards me put her hands on my shoulders.   “Look at you, my sweet darling. You look so beautiful.” She told me. “Thank you, grams.” I told her. I walked over towards my mother and hugged her. She kissed the top of my head and grabbed my hands. “Baby look at you. I can’t believe your 16 years old.” She told me. “I know mom.” “What ever happens today is gonna change your life.” She said as took out this necklace out of her pocket and put it on me. “Never ever take this off. It will always protect you from anything.” She told me as she hooked it together.             After she had put my necklace on, everything had happened so fast. Two men came out of nowhere, within thin air, shot something mine and my mothers’ way. My mother pushed me away from her, waved her hand towards what was coming at her towards one of the men at the same time the other guy had throw a knife at her. Then grams had said some words and the weird men were gone in flames.           When I saw my mother on the ground bleeding to death I started screaming. I crawled towards her fast with grams right next to me. Grams took the knife out of her, placing her hands on her where she was bleeding at.   “Amy, its gonna be ok. I’m gonna get help.” Grams told my mother.   Just then my father had come through the door, dropping everything he had in his arms once he had seen the mess and us on the floor, over my mother. Then my grams yelled at him.   “Call 911 now!!!” she yelled at my father.             All I know is my mother was getting cold, my grams holding where she was bleeding, my father yelling in the phone, and me freaking out, holding my mothers’ cold hand as she had her other hand on my cheek.   “Heather, do whatever your grams tell you. You listen to her no matter what happens.” She was telling me. “Mother, don’t leave me please.” I said crying. “Amy, you ain’t going nowhere. You hear me.” My grams told her. “Mother take good care of my baby. Teach her what she needs to know. Keep her safe. Tell her everything what she is.” My mother was telling grams. “You can tell her yourself when you get better.” My mother looked at me. “I love you, sweetie.” She said. “Never take this off.” She said as she grabbed my necklace, she put on me. I nodded. “I love you too mother.” “I’m getting cold mother.” My mother told grams.             As she had said that, EMT’s, Police were coming into the house. One of the cops had grabbed me and handed me to my father, as they worked on my mother. As they done everything to my mother, all I could see was the blood running on the floor and her body jumping as they shocked her heart. I don’t know how long they were trying to get her to come back, but one of the EMT’s looked my way, looking sorry.           I dropped down on my knees screaming and crying at the same time I was doing that all the lights in the house flickered for a moment. My father, falling with me as he held me close to him. I was like that the whole time when they put my mother on a stretcher, wheeling her out the house. As they were out the house, I was shaking so bad still screaming, threw my arms out from my father’s grip throwing my father against the wall, the house was shaking like I was until my grams came to me.           She grabbed my hands put them on my chest and grabbed me. She held me tight that I wasn’t shaking anymore nor was the house. I was just crying. She held me for I don’t know how long until I passed out in her arms.   “Here let me carry her to her bed. Then I’ll head to the hospital to sign for everything since I’m her husband.” I heard my father tell grams.   “Okay, I’m gonna clean up here.” Grams said.             I felt new hands on me and picking me up and started floating in the air up the stairs to my room. All I know is that I was laid down on the bed and covered up and heard someone walking out the room and shutting the door. I thought I was out for days, weeks all I knew. But when I woke up it was little after 6 pm. I got up out of bed and looked in the mirror. My hair was a mess from sleeping, the dress well was ruined, with my mothers’ blood. I took off the dress and threw it on the floor and put some sweats and t-shirt on and put my hair in a messy bun. I walked over to the door and slowly opened it. I walked out the room and headed towards the stairs. I heard the front door open and then shut. Then I heard my father’s voice. He was saying something to grams fast that she said one word real loud and it was silence for a moment. I went down the stairs slowly where I could see them but not them see me. They were in the dining room, grams were getting off the floor and my father was standing in the archway.   “Just because you’re a witch, Suzan it doesn’t scare me. Because of what are you, you got my wife killed, my daughter almost killed for god sakes. And you think just because Amy is dead, that I’m gonna let you keep Heather here, where demons and who knows what come and kill her like they killed Amy.” My father yelled at grams. “Heather is safer here then she is with you, Harry. Amy died saving Heathers life today because we knew this would have happened once, she turned 16 years old. She’s a ‘Charmed One’ everyone is gonna come after her and I’m the only one that can keep her safe. Not you. Your only human with no powers. I don’t even know why Amy married your worthless ass.” Grams yelled back at him.             “A witch!” I thought. “Powers! Demons! A Charmed One!” What does that even mean. I thought I was going crazy, because of what I just saw.   “Amy gave her a necklace that will keep her safe, that no one will touch her. She’ll have more powers any witch won’t have. The most powerful witch and if you take her from me, you’re just bringing her danger.” Grams told him. “No! my daughter isn’t staying here with you.” He started saying as he turned around to head towards the stairs.   “Over my dead body, Harry!” grams said flinging her hand at him and he went flying away from the stairs sliding on the floor by the doorway to the living room.   I threw a shocked noise and grams and father looked at me. What did I just see.   “Heather, dear. Thought you were asleep.” Grams said. “Come here sweetie.”             I walked down the stairs towards her and she wrapped her arms around me.   “Suzan I’m not gonna stand here and let you keep my daughter from me. She’s coming with me.” My father said. I heard grams take a deep breath and was about to speak. But I turned around and looked at my father and spoke. Not just spoke for her or my mother but for myself. “I’m not going anywhere father. I’m staying here with grams and I’m gonna do what my mother wanted me to do and live for.” I told him. My fathers face was priceless, like shocking, like he didn’t believe I just said what I said. “Yes, you are, Heather. You’re my little girl, my daughter. We’re not staying here anymore.” He said. “Yes, I may be your daughter but I’m 16 years old now a woman. And I’m staying here with grams if you like it or not.” I said. “I don’t like it, Heather.” “Well there’s the front door, you can leave.” I said. I looked at the front door and blinked my eyes and it opened just like that. My father jumped when he heard the door opening. “Don’t let it hit you in the back.” I said.             My father looked at me and grams, took a deep breath and walked out the door, closing it behind him. I took a deep breath and looked at grams. She had a shocked look on her face, like she couldn’t believe what I done. But as well as an amazed face. She kissed my forehead.   “I’m guessing you heard everything what we were talking about.” She asked. I nodded. “I’m a witch?” “Yes, the most powerful one of all. I’ll teach you everything you need to know so you can be ready for anything.” She told me. “Go make you something to eat. I’ll be up in the attic.”             I nodded and went into the kitchen and she went upstairs. I made me something to eat and took it up to my room. After I got done eating, I went back to bed.           Days had gone by fast, where it was finally my mother’s funeral. Grams and I dressed up to impress for the dead. Everyone was there even my father. But he didn’t sit by me or grams. It lasted about 20-30 minutes for everything. Everyone went up to see her and came to me and grams and told us their respects. After we had her put in the ground, laid to rest, we had gone home.           Nothing had happened it was quiet everywhere, at home, on the streets, and at school when it finally started. It was my senior year, my last year of high school, and it went fast. I had my moments where I was failing but that was only because there were some attacks at the house. When grams said there were demons that would come for me, she wasn’t lying but she kept me safe. My necklace kept me safe as well, blocked every power ball that came my way. But when demons weren’t trying to kill me, I was doing good in school.           By the time school ended I was practicing everything. When grams were off working or volunteering wherever, I was up in the attic. Grams didn’t really want me up there alone, just in case something happened, but I wanted to look around.           One day I was looking at some things in the attic I heard the front door open and close, so I ran out the attic closing it slowly behind me and ran downstairs to grams. Right when I hit the last step a demon came out of nowhere.   “Grams watch out.” I yelled. I blinked my eyes and sent him flying. Then started saying a spell that came to mind.   ‘Demon appear in front of my eyes, Wish you disappear in a blink of an eye.’             When I said that he caught on fire and blew up. I was shocked that happened. Grams came running over to me. Grabbing me.   “You okay?” she asked me. “Yes, I’m fine. How about you?” I asked her. “Same, how did you do that. Where did you learn that spell.” She asked me. “I just said it. I thought about it as I sent him flying when I blinked my eyes.” I told her. “Wow your more powerful then I thought. Only if your mother could see.” She said. I smiled and so did she. “I’m going to go lay down I’m tired.”             I nodded and watched her go to her room. She wasn’t feeling so well since mother had passed away, I mean she isn’t young either. The last few months when we got hit with whatever she would be winded. Out of breath. I was more worried about her health then anything.
