Chapter 1
"Alissa? Alissa!" My boss called my name, trying to get my attention back. I looked at it a little aerially. My gaze was focused on him, but my thoughts were in the clouds. "Did you hear what I said?" "What?" I was completely distracted, "huh…" I closed my eyes a little, trying to remember your words. To no avail. The only thing I could remember had to do with Mr. Scott's son and that's all. "Alissa?" He frowned, staring at me frustrated. "I'm sorry." I lowered my gaze and started to face my sneakers, my brand of great use. I heard a sigh being let out by Mr. Scott and soon my heart began to beat fast. At that moment, I expected a scolding of him, the biggest I have had, since lately I was very inattentive. "My eldest son will arrive from London today." I quickly moved my head to look at it again. I didn't change my facial expression, because I didn't know how to react. I swore I'd get one more scolding from him, and maybe the last one. After processing the whole context, I'm curious. I would finally meet Mr. Scott's eldest son, after hearing a lot about him. "Is everything all right?" my boss asks, perplexed, "you've been acting weird lately. "It's nothing. It's okay." I even have. My family. But it wasn't something I should pass on to him. "Okay. I need you to clean the upstairs room before he arrives." I agree and I got up from the bench on the kitchen counter after Mr. Scott. "Oh.. Before I forget…", take a piece of paper out of your pocket and give it to me, "take it. I need you to buy what's in there." I looked at the supermarket list and said yes with my head. "You can do what you think is faster first." I agreed once again with what he said and I analyzed the paper in my hands. It wasn't much. Just enough to make a family dinner. Mr. Scott comes out of the kitchen and I'm finally alone. Before I prepared the room for the older son, I'd go to the supermarket. With that in mind, I kept the list in my short pocket and made my way out of the house. The supermarket wasn't that far away, so I could walk. (...) It took longer than expected. It seemed that much of the city had decided to leave home to shop, and on top of that, in the same place! I tried to rush my steps home, but the five shopping bags prevented a little. If it wasn't for the time spent just at the supermarket, I could have already completed the first thing that Mr. Scott told me to do and I'd be finishing my shift and going to meet some friends. But not always everything is how we want it. After minutes of regret, I reached my destination. The door was locked, so, as usual, I used the spare key that was always under a plant jar. It looked like the house was empty. Probably Mr. and Mrs. Scott had gone to pick up their son at the airport and the other employees had already closed for the day, which was only me and my mission to tidy up the fourth suite. I walked to the kitchen and placed the groceries on the counter, then back into the living room. I had time, albeit short, to end my day and not delay the date I had. Without thinking of anything else, I quickly walked to the balcony, where I had left the cleaning supplies a few hours ago. I picked them up and made my way upstairs. I put the materials on the floor of the hallway, next to the bedroom door. I removed my phone from my pocket and connected to the headset, selecting a hectic song and putting it at the maximum volume. I soon went into the room. Accustomed to starting cleaning the rooms by the bathroom, I followed to the next door, which was ajar. I looked a little suspicious, because I didn't remember leaving it leaning when I had entered the room earlier. Anyway, since I was home alone, I ignored it. Maybe I really did it and I don't remember it anymore. I dragged the bucket with the cleaning products closer to the door and pushed it, opening it. I was about to start cleaning when my gaze bumped into a man's seminu body. "Oh, God!" Who was he? Was that Mr. Scott's son? I wanted to escape, but my body no longer responded to my commands. What a bad time to paralyze, Alissa. I was stagnant in front of a stranger, a stranger who had such a magnificent body... That it was almost inevitable not to pay attention to his very well-worked pectoral and the blessed towel on his waist that threatened to fall at any moment. My gaze bumps against yours. He raises his eyebrows, as if questioning my meddling in his personal environment. Alissa! What is the one you're doing?! I insist on awakening my body until I finally move. And the only action I can do: slam the door and turn your back on it. I couldn't see my face, but I was pretty sure it was in a reddish tone, as I felt my cheeks burn and my breathing deregulated. I wouldn't expect to find a man in a towel in that of the room, still as sexy as he is. Definitely seeing him shocked me, especially since it was the boss's son. When did he get here? "Hey, what are you doing here?" Ice upon hearing your muffled voice on the other side of the door. "I... I'll be back later!" I said and walked away. I rushed my steps to the exit of the bedroom, and when I was about to leave, I remembered I had left the cleaning materials behind. I cursed myself mentally for making that mistake and let out a heavy sigh. I turned around to return to the place where the products were and I came up with the sexy figure coming out of the bathroom. Shit! "I-I'll clean your room later" I said, trying to prevent any kind of questioning and pass through it, avoiding looking at it. "Do you work here?" his tone of voice was surprised. "Yes, almost three years ago." I collect the bucket with the cleaning materials and pull it around the room until it is near the exit. "How could I not know about you?" His voice persisted in the same surprised tone, which made me confused. Why the surprise? "What do you mean?" the eye at a glance. He seemed as confused as I did. But why? And then he was hesitant to answer my question. “No, nothing. I just thought I knew all the employees in the house.” Oh! I swung my head, accepted your answer and turned to leave, and again I was prevented from moving forward. I heard him say: "Shouldn't you have arranged the room before I arrived?" I sigh and remain on my back, with the intention of not exchanging any eye contact with him. I just wanted to get out of there and forget about that awkward situation. "Yes, and I apologize for that. There were some setbacks. But as soon as you leave the room, I'll clean it." "Why don't you clean it, with me here?" I feel a chill go down my spine when I hear him say that. "I-I don't want to bother." "You'll not." I closed my eyes. What was it with that guy? It's not possible that he didn't realize how ashamed I was that I saw him only in a towel. Never in all my life had I seen a man like that, other than in movies and pictures. Besides that, he was my boss's son and I needed to keep decency. "Why don't you look at me?" Once again, I feel my body tremble, and suddenly the feeling of approach takes over all my senses. Was he near me? But I didn't move to check. "Are you ashamed of what happened?" I said, it was noticeable. The more he spoke, the more he contributed to my restlessness. "It's all right. I'll tell my parents I didn't let you clean up my bedroom." I think mentally and I get out of there like a rocket. I certainly wouldn't be able to face him normally. I came down from the top floor, still in ecstasy. The scene insisted on staying in my head. I couldn't measure the level of shame I felt. Why, just me, did I have to find him that way and just the first time I saw him? And to think that I'm having an internal breakdown by just seeing him in a towel, imagine if he was out of anything, I might be having a heart attack right now. I closed my eyes for a few moments and I shook my head, trying to scare away those thoughts. I go down the last step of the stairs and head to the kitchen. I saw one of the oldest cooks in the house rummaging through the shopping bags I had placed on the counter. "Elizabeth!" I said your name with the intention of scaring her. "What are you still doing here?" "Jesus!" turning automatically with her hand on her chest, she looks angry at me and shakes her head. "One day you're going to kill me!" Says and I end up letting out a laugh and going towards her to hug her. Elizabeth was like a mother to me. She's been by my side since I started working at Mr. Scott's house. She helped me when I needed it. Besides that, she took care of me like my mother. "I'm sorry, my Korean!" I play with your offspring. "You know I have a great affection for you, don't you?" I formed a beak on my lips, while hugging her sideways. I held back a laugh to see her angry face, but soon Elizabeth normalized. "Mr. Scott asked me to stay. They want me to make Joshua a welcome dinner," she answers my question. "That guy upstairs?" "Yes. Is he here yet? Have you seen him?" curious question. Oh, and as I saw it... I let Elizabeth out of my arms and I anchored myself on the counter. "I was going to tidy up the fourth suite, when I saw that he had arrived…" "How is he doing? Is he all right?" She interrupted me. "Easy!" I laughed when I saw her curiosity. "You even seem like a mother worried about her son." "Hey, girl! I care about Mr. Scott's son. I practically saw him go into puberty!" "Go into puberty?" I arched my eyebrows with an ironic smile on my lips. "Yes. But then... Did he say anything to you? If he arrived well from the trip?" "No...? And why would he tell me that?" "You should have asked him how he was doing. If he needed anything." I looked at her a little perplexed. Elizabeth seemed to praise him. Anyway, my first date with him wasn't one of the most... Normal "Why? If he needed anything, he'd talk." "Hey, what are you doing here?" She hit me with the cloth that was on her apron. "What is this? That's not the kind of treatment we should offer the boss's son!" "What's so much about what I said?" I looked at her incredulously after her reaction. "We must always be available, even if they don't need to." "We always do something for Mr. Scott when he asks, why would his son be any different? It's like you're making him perfect, Elizabeth," I crossed my arms, stupefied. "He's more demanding! And because he's the son of our bosses, we must always be available." "Whatever." I walked away from the counter and walked to the fridge, getting a jar of water. "You need to learn good manners. You must be presentable to Mr. Scott's son." "Why? He's just going to be one more who's going to boss me around." "Who?" I heard a second voice in the kitchen. I turned my head a little sideways, seeing Mr. Scott's son. I breathed deep and swallowed it dry. Maybe I said too much. But at least this time, he was dressed. "Joshua!" Elizabeth said, excited, overflowing with happiness. "Elizabeth, what has time done to you? You're getting younger and younger!" "Don't be a liar," she says between laughs. "You've grown a lot since I last saw you. You looked like a puppy. And today... You're ready to have your own." Continuing with my back to them, I just heard them laughing until I heard my name in that conversation. "Oh... This is Alissa," Elizabeth pulls me by the arm until she fronts me. "She's my helper." "Eliza... beth…" I looked at her quickly, then at him, and I lowered my head. "Hi…", I said low, almost like a whisper. As I imagined, I couldn't look at your face. All I could remember was what happened. "Hi. You're…" he was trying to see my face, since I was downcast. "Alissa right?" "Yeah…" "Alissa! Greet Mr Scott's son right!" Elizabeth grumbles in my ear." "Elizabeth... " "Alissa…" "Elizabeth…' "Anyway," we are interrupted by Joshua, "It was a pleasure to meet you... Alissa. But I'm going to have to leave now. If my parents come to me, tell them I won't be long." "Yes, sir." Elizabeth agrees with her head and watches the path he makes out of the kitchen. I felt a slap burn against my arm. "Oh, my gosh!" I turned my hand on the spot right after and looked at her. "Why did you do that?" "Didn't your mother teach you manners?" "Of course!" "So, what's going on?" "How did you want me to act?" "You didn't even look him in the face! Aish…" she looked at the clock on the wall of the kitchen exit. "Go on. Your work is over. Go, before I kill you!" "Aish…" I imitate what she says. "And I will, before I get intoxicated with such flattery," I say those words with emphasis. "Go soon!" I walked to the kitchen exit and picked up my purse on the coat hook near the door. I left the house and started going on my way to a bar, where I would meet two friends. (...) "You're two minutes late." Kat said, as soon as I approached the bar table where she and Suzy were. "What?" I wrinkled my forehead. I sat in a front chair and pulled out my purse, putting it on the table. "What's two minutes late?" "Whatever." Kat shrugs. "Did you see it? Tycoon Joshua Scott is in Los Angeles!" Suzy says, looking at her cell phone screen. "Who cares? He's just another billionaire in Los Angeles." Kat responds, indifferent. "Idiot." "What have I done?" "Forget it." "Look, it's not my fault if you fuel this illusion of marrying a billionaire." "You could at least support me!" Suzy complains and drops her phone. "Friend, I will. But only when you're interested in someone easier to conquer." "Suzy... " I drew your attention. "Who is this Joshua Scott?" I looked at her a little curious, but we were interrupted by an argument inside the bar. I looked at the two guys who spoke loudly inside, getting everyone's attention. They were already close to assaulting each other when a man, looking like a wall, separated them. I tried to recognize the face of one of them until I got scared to find out. "Mr. Scott's son?" I watched all that confusion without knowing what to do. The right thing would be to be quiet and not get in trouble, but since it was someone I knew, being my boss's son, it was as if, for a brief moment, I felt the responsibility to check if he was okay or if he needed help. "Do you know them?" My attention was drawn to Suzy, who looked at me with arched eyebrows. "No…" My vision began to observe the path Joshua took to the exit of the bar. "I…" Before I finished, I got up from the chair and picked up my purse, walking to the exit of the place. "Hey, where are you going?" I heard Suzy ask, but I ignored her, continuing with my steps until I left the bar. I didn't exactly have an explanation to say why I was going after Mr. Scott's son, other than wanting to help. And also, because I'm a little curious. The guy had just arrived in town and was already in trouble. "Hey!" I said in a slightly loud tone, enough that he could hear me. Joshua ceased in his footsteps. We weren't that far away, but a car would fit between us. He had his back to me. I walked a little closer to him, stopping two and a half steps from his body. "You're… Okay?" I asked, carefully. "I saw what happened." I slipped my gaze to the ground as I slowly taped my fingers to my bag. I heard a sigh being let go by Joshua. "Don't worry." He said briefly and turned around. "Forget what you saw." "Impossible... " I slipped my gaze from the ground to his face. For the first time, I was really staring at him. And he was handsome. Even more beautiful than I could imagine, even in an environment with enough clarity. "Then save it only for yourself. Ok?" "But... Is everything really okay? Who was that guy?" Joshua took two steps towards me, getting inches away from me. He tilts his head down because of our vast height difference, and I see his eyes become chaotic. "It's not your problem." My lips opened, demonstrating how frustrated I was. Okay. I was curious about a situation that I had nothing to do with, but damn, I had come from the heart to ask if he was okay. "I know. But I was just worried!" I tried to justify it. "And I told you not to worry." He said short and thick. With the same intensity that he frowned and looked at me impatiently, I reciprocated him with an indignant look. "You should thank the people who care about you!" "Do you really care? Or is it just another one that takes advantage of the situation?" "What?!" I said incredulously. "There's nothing in my personal life you need to know. You know, there are enough people who interfere with my privacy. I don't need another one." He said his last words before walking to his car, getting in, and leaving the parking lot. Cool... That's what happens when I try to be nice to someone. Pure ingratitude. Looks like the guy Elizabeth praises so much is an asshole. I started staring at nothing as I thought about Joshua's quick confusion and attitude. Would he have been rude to me because he really wanted to or was it just a way to protect his privacy? And another, was that guy you off or would it have been the other way around. "Argh…" I grumbled by letting those dubious thoughts hang in my mind. "Whatever," I crossed my arms a little irritated. "Anyway, what do I have to do with it? I don't even know him. He doesn't even know me." I argued with myself and went back inside the bar. The situation seemed to have already been resolved. Joshua wasn't there anymore, much less the other man. I sat with the girls again, who, luckily, were still there. "Where did you go?" Suzy asked as soon as she saw me approaching. "Huh... I went to talk to a friend." I shrugged. I'm sure he's not even here for a friend. "Did I miss something?" I asked, trying to tune in to the events that might have occurred after I left. "Apart from the confusion... Nothing." A beak forms on his lips, while denying her head. "You know... " She approaches me. "In the moment of confusion... You said "Mr. Scott's son." She says quotes with your fingers. "Who were you referring to?" Inevitably, my eyes rolled. I didn't realize I had spoken in a tone she could hear. "Who was it?" I was a little doubtful about what to say. Joshua told me to keep it a secret. I don't know if telling the girls would mean anything. But anyway, you'd better be quiet. At least this time. "No, I'm not... I think I said randomly," I lie and shrug, pretending I really had no idea. "Huh... Why don't we drink?" I proposed, as a way of trying to make Suzy forget about the confusion that Joshua was causing. "Here!" I saw a waiter come by and holding a tray of beer glasses. I take two and give one to Suzy, staying with the other. "I'll pay!" I said quickly, trying to continue with my strategy. (...) "Mom…" Whining. "I promise, I'll never drink again in my life…" I was sorry for every glass of beer I'd drunk. The world was spinning every step I took. It was late and I was alone on the street. Not to mention the severe pain in the stomach caused by the large amount of alcohol ingested on an empty stomach. "Mother... If I die before I get home, I mean…"I leaned against the wall of some house, after feeling my legs almost weaken. "I'm sorry if I was this horrible daughter," I felt like throwing up, but nothing happened. I proceeded with dragging steps as I glided my body through the walls of each residence. The more I mentally asked Mr. Scott's house was close to me, it seemed like she was further apart. I was about to throw myself on the ground and stay there, but I was trying to keep fighting. I can't believe I had to drink so much to make Suzy forget about that mess. The girl seemed to be immune to the effects of alcohol. Other than that, I did it to protect a guy who was cruelly rude to me. "This is your fault. Joshua... Scott. Look at the situation you put me in... I'm just... Dying. The world looks like a Ferris wheel!" I stop walking when I see Mr. Scott's house coming. "Thank God." A meaningless smile appeared on my lips. I opened the front gate and walked to the door. I suspected everyone was already asleep. Luckily, I had the spare key. It was hard to find the keyway, but after minutes of fighting, I could open the door. I went in and locked her up again. I was about to head towards the kitchen to go to my room at the back of the house when I heard the sound of a voice behind me. "Do you ever get late like this?" I turned around and saw Joshua. Again. I looked at him a little scared. The kitchen was in low light, only receiving the reflections of the lighting of the poles in the garden of the house. But I didn't say what Joshua said, because anyway, the other day I couldn't remember a word. I watched him go through the kitchen entrance, putting his hands inside his robe. He came from the direction of the room. "Have you had a drink?" he asks after analyzing me. I soon remembered our earlier mismatch and how rude he had been. "So what...? What if I do?" "Don't you care about your appointments?" "And by chance... Do you care?" "You're on a breath." He said, making me look at him a little indignantly, but soon his words became hilarious, because of the effect of alcohol. " Ha... Ha... you say that like you've never stayed." " Alcohol? No." "Argh…" I grimaced and followed my steps closer to him. "You're rude... Scott. How do you dare to treat someone with rudeness when they care about you?" "When?" "Are you going to say you don't remember?" "No." I saw a beak form on his lips while denying his head, causing me to let out a laugh in debauchery. "What is it? I drink and... You're the one who loses your memory?" "You're really drunk. How much do you drink?" "Some... Nine... Ten... Eight... Perhaps... Cups... Beer? Argh... My life is not your problem!" "What?" "Yes! What you heard!" I got closer, almost leaving our bodies glued together. I tilt my head up and my eyes are ugly. "Like you told me, remember? My... Life… Is... Not... Your... Problem..." I let a laugh slip between my lips. "You'll wake everyone up." "I don't give... Huh…" I feel a severe pain in my head. "Alissa?" I let out a brief laugh at the sight of your facial expression. I rolled my eyes, feeling my eyelids weigh and everything went out.
