“We’re sorry, Princess Emerald, it is beyond our control.” They replied to me.

Inside were four princes.

The first to look up had sharp hazel eyes. His right arm had been tired from sketching out all the notes that he was to memorize. As his body had turned towards the door, I had noticed that he was the only one that had been in uniform. From head to toe, he oozed an unapproachable persona.

One of the friendlier looking princes had smiled as I had entered the room, as though he was eager for a new face. He himself had been slightly tanner than the rest, with jet black hair cut in a bowl shape style. His eyes were rather large, black colored.

Another leaned against the windowsill on the far side of the room with his toned frame, holding a glass of wine in his left hand as he gazed pensively towards the roses outside with deep blue eyes, as vast as the oceans themselves. His chin length, curly brunette locks framed his face. He wore a black suit with a flower on the lapel.

The final prince had a much rougher expression and hadn’t even the respect to put a shirt on. He wore leather pants and spat as I walked into the room, the drop of spittle landing just millimeters away from the red shoes that my makeup artist had picked out for me. He had piercings all over his ears, which I could see once he had cracked his neck side to side. There were scars on his body to match. He had penetrating grey eyes with a face that scared me so much, I had to look away. As he towered over me, I saw that he himself was six feet tall as well.

Chapter 1: Rags to Royalty
Once upon a time, in a small island centered in the middle of Atlantic, was a small kingdom known as Agricola, named for its luscious fields and fertile lands. It was a beautiful country, with an even more beautiful and highly talented princess. She was one of the wealthiest in the world, amassing a fortune that was impossible to imagine with a single pair of eyes. If the practice had not been considered primitive, suitors may as well have lined up at the throne room, lapping around the entire estate, to ask for her hand. She lived the life that every girl had dreamt and wished for….. “Princess Emerald has arrived!” The procession greeted me, bowing as I disembarked from my plane, arriving at the Romulus Academy, a school reserved for the children of the Richest and most Powerful Aristocracies in the world. It was basically a school for billionaires and royalty. Whoever could afford their unreasonable tuition and still have money left over for donations had previously beat me. But honestly, who wouldn’t want their children to go to a school maintained 24/7 by an armed militia making rounds across a campus centered in the mountains of Switzerland, studying with the most powerful children in the world? This was what used to be a European castle complex, but has long since been converted into a school that housed an extreme form of education that I would definitely have not been able to afford under other circumstances. I curtsied to the tall soldiers who had saluted to me. Now, it was a mechanically robotic motion for me. All I had with me was a heart locket from my grandmother and a phone with no contacts. I gulped with nervousness as I walked with them inside the complex. The large double doors framed in gold had awaited me atop a white marble staircase, sleek and shiny kept clean by endless hours of toiling by various servants and janitors. The stone that rimmed the staircase was a classic French style so very much loved by all. Atop the roof of the castle based school had been angels, signaling that this indeed was a school made by the heavens FOR the children of the heavens. The gold trimming continued inside the school’s doors, where carrying servants and bodyguards around to each class was a social norm. The cold marble flooring was accompanied by a large, vaulted foyer where a chandelier hung from above, its crystals glistening in the morning sunlight, spreading its shimmer all across the foyer. A grand staircase had greeted me, dividing at the top which leads to the history and science departments respectively. To my right were a set of elevators that led up all the way up to the 7th floor and to my left was the luxurious gym that led out to the golf field in just a portion of the school’s backyard. The halls weren’t too crowded, but they all tried not to look directly my way. The windows were made of stained glass, its trimming was black and bleak while the walls themselves had been lined with church-like paintings of cherubs and kings, and of course nobles and the filthy rich. The paintings had undoubtedly represented its intended demographic. At this point, all the students had been pointing at me with a certain respect, bowing and curtsying as they had passed me by. Behind me, a couple of servants had tolled behind me, carrying my suitcases. “Where are the dorm rooms?” I asked one of the soldiers, who were turned to each other in hushed whispers. “Um…..” They began. “Hm?” I asked rather impatiently. The heels on my feet were finally taking their toll on my ankles and I would have very much appreciated if they had hurried up and told me what was wrong. I definitely was not used to this kind of shoe. Neither was I used to how clammy my legs got whenever a wind would blow through my skirt while I was in a dress. And I definitely DEFINITELY was tired of all this makeup and acting. I just wanted to sit down and get a chance to remind myself who I really was. “It seems that there was a mishap with your room ma’am…” The soldier had dropped his microphone. “And what mishap would that be?” I raised an eyebrow, as angry as I could make myself. The soldier had turned away, advising that I followed him. I sighed and followed them back outside, right back into the late summer heat that pounded down on my back like a weight of a thousand kilos. We passed through a freshly cut garden of rose shrubbery, passing through the kept gardens….and we passed the girl’s dormitory on the way to the men’s dormitory. “This isn’t the girl’s dormitory,” I said as if it hadn’t been obvious enough when I had gone inside. “The principal has said that your previous roommates do not want you back….they quoted that you were rather….abusive and uncomfortable to be around.” The soldier scratched the back of his head. “So they’re planning on shipping me off to the men’s dormitory?!” I repeated, crossing my arms to show my disappointment. “We’re sorry, Princess Emerald, it is beyond our control.” They replied to me. “I cannot believe this!” I stomped with my right foot as hard as I could, though careful not to break the shoes I just learned to walk in. The servants behind me had been shocked at my sudden outburst, giving me comfort that I was doing my job right. I gulped as the soldier had his hand on the doorknob. Would these so-called roommates be able to keep my secret if it were to be revealed?! The soldier opened the door, inviting me to a destiny that I would never forget. Inside were four princes. The first to look up had sharp hazel eyes. His right arm had been tired from sketching out all the notes that he was to memorize. As his body had turned towards the door, I had noticed that he was the only one that had been in uniform. From head to toe, he oozed an unapproachable persona. He adjusted the glasses on his laser-focused face, fixed on a permanent look of concentration. He was lean with messy blond hair that hid a brain filled with quantities upon quantities of knowledge. One of the friendlier looking princes had smiled as I had entered the room, as though he was eager for a new face. He himself had been slightly tanner than the rest, with jet black hair cut in a bowl shape style. His eyes were rather large, black colored. He donned a white t-shirt with a comfortable pair of shorts and a joystick in his hand, looking away and stopping all motion that had to do with his videogame. Another leaned against the windowsill on the far side of the room with his toned frame, holding a glass of wine in his left hand as he gazed pensively towards the roses outside with deep blue eyes, as vast as the oceans themselves. With his right arm, he perched it at the top of the windowsill, leaning his forehead towards it. His chin length, curly brunette locks framed his face. He wore a black suit with a flower on the lapel. He appeared rather shocked to see me as if I had shot a bullet right through his heart. There were scars on his body to match as well as the muscles to show how much stronger he was. He had penetrating grey eyes with a face that scared me so much, I had to look away. As he stood up, I saw that he himself was six feet tall as well, definitely enough to tower over me. He threw the joystick over to the friendlier prince. “Who is this?” He shoved his hands in his pocket, coming up a little too close for comfort. “Eric, she’s the new roommate I told you about!” The friendlier prince had also stood up, worried for what his friend might try and pull. “It’s Princess Emerald!” The soldier had gotten between us, asking the Prince to calm down. It seemed as if the administration had made a God awful mistake to pair me up with these princes. “Oh, I know who she is…She’s definitely not new.” Eric replied, narrowing his eyes at me. “Prince Eric of Wales, please calm down.” The soldiers had placed their hand on his shoulders, only to have it slapped away. “Don’t you f*****g tell me what to do.” Eric snapped. “Eric, calm down now……” The friendlier Prince had gotten up, pulling his friend back from the scene, before going up to introduce himself to you. “My name is Prince Maha Chaiya of Thailand! I don’t think we’ve ever met before but I’m Eric’s friend but I’m not a jerk like him! Your room is over there by the way!” He pointed down the hallway at the very end so the servants could finish their job as quickly as possible. “IM NOT A J-” Eric began until the bespeckled boy had clamped his mouth shut with his hand. “I’m trying to study.” He said, collecting his books as he stood up. “Duke Ironsmith. I would appreciate it if you kept the noise on the down low. I like to make sure my grades are perfect.” He said simply, as the son of the President of the United States he didn’t have much explaining to do before walking down the hallway and making the first left towards his own room. Eric made one final scowl before making the first right to his room, leaving me alone with just Chaiya and the one in the back who seemed to be choking on his tears that came running down his face. “I am very pleased to meet you, Prince Maha Chaiya.” I curtsied. “I must help them unpack my bags now.” I tried to appear as orderly as possible although I was sweating through practically every layer of clothing on me. It seemed that the true Princess Emerald had a lot more history with these people than I had hoped. As calmly and collected as I could be, I walked down the hallway, right into my room. “I would like to unpack these myself, but I thank you for your help,” I said simply before they bowed and ran off as quickly as possible. After they had run out of my room, I shut the door and locked it, finally able to kick off these horribly high heels. I unzipped the back of the dress, my arms sore and in pain from having to reach that far back and pull down such a tiny zipper. I sighed as I leaned against the door, sliding down until my bottom hit the cold hard floor. I pulled my knees up to my chest, throwing my long hair forward. I put my hands to my face, scratching at the sides of my forehead. “I’m still Luisa….I’m still Luisa…..” I whispered to myself, trying not to forget my true identity and mission. As one may have guessed by now….I am not the real Princess Emerald….in fact,...I just happened to look exactly like her through the face and in appearance. We aren’t related at all. I was a commoner, well I still am. In the small nation of Agricola, I had lived in a small village that farmed wheat to survive. It was far away from anything remotely close to urbanization, nestled deep along a road that nobody dares to travel on. I lived in a small cottage with my grandmother. It had a leaky roof and whenever it would rain, a small piece of the roof would come crashing down with it. I was surprised that most of the roof was actually still there. In fact, I wouldn’t even be here, had there not been a coup d’etat that threatened to kill the members of the Royal Family. Which was why they decided to send me to this school in case the revolutionaries would come for my head...or specifically Princess Emerald’s. In exchange, the government had promised that I would be able to return with a better life for me and my grandmother. Once they could actually win this war and reinstate their power of course... but at least, they were able to get my grandmother to a safe location away from all that chaos in the country. That much, I am grateful for. Right now…. I had to somehow keep up this act as Princess Emerald, a rude, sassy princess who does not take crap from anybody. She was also a spoiled brat and definitely hated by her own people. Me? I wasn’t anything much. I was just a pushover girl from the countryside who probably wouldn’t have changed otherwise. I stood up from where I sat, opening my suitcases, I had changed into a new dress, checking in the mirror once more, I fixed my hair and adjusted my make-up so it wouldn’t look like I just had a mental breakdown. “I’m still Luisa….I’m still Luisa….” I tried to remind myself deep down inside before I put the finishing touches on my make-up. “But now….I have to be Princess Emerald.” ~To be continued~
