I was a Daughter, a warrior and a protector for the Elders. I was taught to crave blood and murder. Daughters were the protectors of this world. Undefeated, determined and powerful. I was going to be the next Mother, the next leader. That was until I met him.

Kilian Castor the Alpha of Marble Pack, the most powerful wolf in our world.

Our love was forbidden, unheard of and something I would not accept! I wasn't giving up my life for him. Alphas could only mate anther high-ranking wolf so why me? I wasn't a wolf I was a human, wasn't I?

“Close your eyes and say her name in your head, if you don’t hear a response, I will not mention this again. We will never speak of this night again but please just say her name” he put his hands together as if he was begging me to do this. I was hesitant, I needed Zara next to me, but at the same time I felt safe. I stood firmly and closed my eyes.

“That’s it, now imagine you are on your own, in a place full of peace, no sound around you, don’t be tense and just do it” Kilian directed.

I let out a deep sight and focused on my mind.

Estrid? Are you there?

Nothing, complete silence, when I came to it Kilian was still half covered in water with water dripping down his collar bone. I shook my shoulders and started to walk off; this was a waste of my time.

Finally, hello Felicity!

1. Unexpected Meeting
Kilian POV: As I was holding the piece of paper and read what it said I cannot help but roll my eyes. The Elders are calling another Alpha meeting. We just had one three months ago, what is so important that requires every Alpha of every pack in the whole country. Something felt odd, at the bottom of the letter it said that we are required under the Elder law, to be there along with other leaders of other non-werewolf species.  The Elders were the law keepers, the ones which allowed me to perform the Alpha ceremony, they hold all the old scrolls, and they are the source of wisdom in the supernatural world.  We didn’t need to have an Alpha King or Queen as they ruled over everyone. This caught my attention; I have been the Alpha of the Marble Pack for three years now and I have never been summoned to a meeting of this proportion. I ran the biggest pack in North America, and I have met many Alphas, but I have never met any other species leader. I mind linked my Beta Seth to come to my office straight away. After a minute there is a knock on the door followed by Seth. “Hey, what’s up?”, Seth appeared with his rugged blonde hair. “How many times have I told you that it is disrespectful to knock and then just come in straight away?” I said without looking at him. “Hey at least now I knock” Seth replied with a cheeky grin on his face. “You have good…... “connections” around this country, have you heard anything interesting or something out of the ordinary recently?” I questioned. “If by “connections” you mean lady friends…” “That’s exactly who I’m talking about” I cut him off sharply. “Then yes I do…. But no, I have not heard a thing that I would consider interesting or worth your time, why do you ask?” he was full of excitement, raising his eyebrow. “I just got a letter from the Elders, we have to be in New York in two days, there is an emergency meeting that has to be attended by all the Alphas in the country, I don’t want to go in there blindly” I leaned back in my chair resting my hands on the back of my head. What is so important? Why cannot I just send Seth in my place? I cannot just drop everything and be there at their beck and call! You know you have to; they will look down on you if you don’t. My wolf Bane countered. OH, look who decided to wake up from his all-day slumber, I barked back at him. I had a nice long run yesterday so cut me some slack, anyway I have a good feeling about this meeting.   “So, what are we doing then?” Seth brought me back from my conversation with Bane, but the uneasy feeling lingered. “Should I let my “connections” in New York know that Mr Seth Walker has a few available appointments in two days’ time?” grinning like an excited little puppy. “I guess so, get packed and tell a few Omegas to pack my usual travel pack. Please behave this time round. I don’t want to see you half naked running across the Palace corridors again” I warned him, fully knowing that it will not work. Being a Beta and still unmated does attract a few unmated she-wolves and Seth does not have the power to resist such attention. “ROADTRIP, YES !!!” he shouted, before leaving my office. I would not usually tolerate such behaviour. However, Seth is an exception, no matter how s**t his life is, he has always been loyal and trusting. He has been there for me when we got attacked by rouges and I have been there for him to hide him in my closet from crazy she-wolves who he is always ditching after one-night stands. I trusted Bane with his feelings, maybe he knows something I do not. I will have to wait and see; I just hope this meeting is not another boarder or rules meeting.   Seth POV: When we got to the Palace, I got flashback from three months ago, Moon Goddess I hope that she-wolf is still here. I should really remember her name. I know she was not my mate but I swear I smelled something sweet when I first met her, although she was one of the Palace cooks so it might have been the strawberry cheesecake she was holding. Looking at the Palace gave me the creeps. There was always an uneasy feeling, the number of guards the Elders stationed around these walls was ridiculous, and the worst thing was they didn’t even use guns, they had silver swords, to kill vampires, which were also dipped in wolfsbane. The guards were made of warlocks, vampires, witches, wolves, and everything else that does not belong in the “normal” society. “Remind me again, why am I the one taking your bags out of the car, last time I checked, it’s the Beta’s job” Kilian marked with a sarcastic tone. “Sorry Bro, this place is just weird, I want to get out of here as soon as this is over, here let me take the bags”. As we walked up the grand stairs, we were greeted by one of the Elders. He was dressed in the normal muddy brown cloak which the Elders are required to wear with the hood capped over his eyes. The only thing you could see were the runes on his chin which went down his neck and old crooked teeth. “Alpha Kilian of the Marble Pack” he welcomed us in his raspy voice, this guy sent shivers down my spine. He turned towards me “Beta Seth of the Marble Pack”; it was as though he can read my mind. “Gentlemen, welcome to the Palace, dinner will begin at five, you have been given your usual rooms, please make yourselves at home”. “Home? Is this guy having a laugh, this will never be my home, this is my hell, I mean just look at this chandelier, why does it have to be black?” whispering so the Elder would not hear me. “You know you always say the exact same thing. Just keep your head down, stick to the business, focus on the task at hand and do not run around the Palace half naked” Kilian puffed. “It was one time, and you will never let me live it down. Anyway, did he say that dinner will be served at five? Are we here for a meeting or some food I thought we came here for some serious s**t” I questioned. “Maybe they are trying to butter us up, keep your guard up” Kilian answered. As we walked up to our floor, we could smell the other wolves who arrived before us. This was going to be interesting, not many packs like the fact that Killian is a 21-year-old who runs the biggest pack in North America.  Some might even challenge him, there are a few stupid Alphas around the country. Whenever Kilian walked into he room everyone would talk quieter or just stop talking altogether. He towered over most people in the room, his father left him a long and strong legacy and he was doing everything to uphold that. No-one in their right mind would challenge him.   Killian POV: I have sat around this table many times, but never with this many Elders and never with this many different types of species. You could cut the tension with a knife in this room. Each Alpha wanted to be the best, the biggest, the most powerful. Each Alpha brought along a Beta and some brought along their Lunas. The waitresses came out with plates of food and drinks and the conversation started to flow, and newly appointed Alphas came to their own. “Ladies and Gentlemen” opened the High Elder the only one without a hood over his eyes. “I know that this is quite an odd evening and I can tell you already that it is going to be a long meeting. That is why we have decided to postpone the meeting to tomorrow morning. For now, please enjoy your meal” as he clapped his hand the waitresses lifted the cylinders revealing perfect meals, each specifically designed to their consumer, as though they have read our minds. As I started cutting my steak, I noticed that Seth was not touching his food. “What is wrong with you? Lost your appetite or saving it for later”, I said, giving him a little wink. “I don’t trust these fuckers, how come every person has different food? What if this is dark magic and it is poisoned? What if they are trying to kill off all the powerful leaders? huhh?” Seth frantically questioned everything in the room. “Will you just shut up and eat. Listen I am not happy that we have to stay one night longer here than anticipated. If I knew I was coming here for a meal I would have stayed at Marble and attended to the businesses but tough s**t… now eat”. After dinner I was greeted by Alpha Marcel Broughton of the Golden Forest Pack and his Luna Ophelia.  I had great respect for him, he worked with my father and he was always adamant that I joined in on their meetings. He was a great warrior who defended his pack from rouges and vampires. “Hello Alpha Killian” he said shaking my hand.  “Good evening Alpha Marcel, Luna Ophelia, I was hoping to speak to you before the meeting, do you have any idea what this is about?” I questioned them relentlessly. “We came over here to ask you the same thing, in all my years as Alpha I have never been summoned so quickly” he said quietly.  Marcel and Ophelia were a pleasant couple, he would always hold her hand and when talking she would stand next to him, rather than behind him like some Lunas do.  They were in their mid-fifty’s but she still had her dark brunette hair let down and Marcel had a few grey hairs showing.   The meaningless conversations tired me out, I wanted nothing more than to go upstairs and go to sleep. Driving for twenty hours really took its toll, I wanted to take the company jet and fly to JFK, but Seth feared flying… a wolf scared of flying. We had to drive all the way from New Orleans to New York. Just as I was about to undress there was a knock on my door, I wanted to say “come in” but before I could Seth popped his head in grinning like a Cheshire cat. “I know what you are going to say, and I wanted to wait to be let in, but I have some exciting news … we are hitting the town with Alpha Marcel’s son Christopher and his Beta Sebastian” Seth said quietly as if that was a little secret, I swear he had too much alcohol at dinner. I gave him no response just rolled my eyes. “Come on man, your persuasion comes in three-fold.  One, you can meet your mate, I know you have looked for her in New York before at the previous meetings but never before there was this many wolves in New York, and if other wolves know about it so will the she-wolves. Two, you will look at lot more attractive with a Beta by your side and I will look more attractive with an Alpha at my side” He is so full of himself. “Three, this is Alpha Marcel’s son he has all the right connections, and yes I’m using the word in the correct context this time, to get us into the best bars and clubs” he did not even stop to catch his breath.  I looked at him with the littlest amusement but just nodded.
