Chapter 1
Heavy panting and the sound of thundering footsteps is the only thing that can be heard in the silent forest. A man and woman race through the dense trees on the cold moonless night running for their lives. In the woman's arms a small baby is tightly clutched to her chest as a quiet stream of tears run down her face knowing what she and the man must sadly do. "They're getting closer." The pants out loud enough for only the woman to hear and not the disgusting creatures wanting to end their lives as shouts ring out not far behind them. Spotting a barely visible cave the couple increase their speed in hopes they get the young child to safety before their killers completely catch up to them. Reaching the small opening of the cave the woman gently yet urgently places the baby on a small pile of dried leaves that has blown into the dark damp cave entrance, her heart shattering at having to leave such a young defenseless child all alone in this horrid world while the man silently prays for the safety of the baby that he loves so much. "I'm so sorry my darling Emma, mommy and daddy can no longer be with you." She chokes on her words as silent sobs wrack her body as she stares into innocent bright green eyes. The man pulls a small white gold necklace from his pocket and places it around his daughter's neck as tears pool in his eyes. "My little princess we can't protect you anymore, so you will have to be strong and grow up into the beautiful woman you'll be one day." Regretfully he doesn't have the chance to say anything more as the couple's attention is drawn to enclosing hunters. Sorrowfully they take one last glance at the baby girl before they run once again. Not even five minutes later gunshots are heard followed by the dying screams of the young loving couple. The baby being completely oblivious to what just happened plays with the beautiful heart shaped necklace that has her named engraved with diamonds on it, the only reminder she'll ever have of her parents. THREE YEARS LATER..... Wobbly I ascend the few short porch steps happily giggling that it's the first time I've done it without teetering to the side or falling over. Happily at the top step I smile at the home my mommy and I have lived in for who knows how long. My legs carry me towards the open doorway of the run down cabin eager to see what my dinner will be today, mommy has started letting me stay near the cabin by myself while she gets our food everyday. Entering the small one room home in the middle of the floor I see an older grey wolf sitting down with a messily folded up cloth in front of her. Hearing my approaching steps she snaps her head in my direction letting out an impatient growl meaning she's been waiting on me for awhile, sheepishly I give her an apologetic look as I continue walking to her. Once I'm in front of her she nudges the cloth letting me know that's my portion of the food, giddly my tiny hands open the cloth and immediately the strong scent of berries hits my nose making my mouth water. It's turned cold outside so berries have become a rare find, this will be the first meal I've had in weeks that's not meat or old walnuts and acorns that mom has found on the ground. Greedily I stuff the berries into my mouth loving the juiciness and different flavors I haven't tasted in awhile but knowing mom she didn't eat any berries herself wanting me to have them so I pretend to be full so she can have some of them. Having finished my meal a small yawn escapes my lips, mom quickly gets up biting down on the back of my shirt and carries me to a creaky bed in the corner of our house. With grate care I'm placed on the bed and the wolf jumps up next to me waiting for me to lay down into a comfortable position, curling up into a small ball I stick my thumb in my mouth as mom wraps herself around me to keep me warm while also being protective. As her fur and body heat warms me I'm soon drifting off into sleep. Early in the morning I'm woken up by a frantic mom, having not saw her this way in awhile I shoot up out of bed tumbling to the floor with a hard thud making me want to cry at the pain. Wasting no time I'm roughly pushed under the bed something that has never happened before which scares me, something if definitely wrong if mom suddenly pushed me under the bed. Hearing the porch steps loudly groan from holding up the weight of someone my body stiffens, with a quick sniff I pick up the scent of the wolf people I've met before but not the same ones cause these scents are a little different. Soon I start shaking, the wolf people are usually mean and try to hurt me, they've even hurt mommy when she's tried to protect me. Peeking out from under the bed I see mommy standing protectively in front of me trying to block me from view while she gets into a defensive position, when the shoes of the wolf people come into view mom starts growling and snarling frightening me even more. "Woah easy there girl." One man says as I see his feet take a step back. "Huh, who would've though we'd find a wolf in an abandoned cabin, this is a first." Another man chimes in his voice sounding a little amused making mom growl even more. "Should we shoo her out of this place?" A snort sounds at the question. "From her aggressive behavior do you think she'll just easily leave? No. Even though we're all fans of wolves it seems the best coarse of action is to kill her." Hearing such words makes tears stream down my face, a small sob I'm holding back accidentally leaves me. The men suddenly stop their bantering as I watch their feet become stiff meaning they heard me, with wide eyes I scoot further back under the bed and make the mistake of backing into the wall making even more noise. "What the hell was that?" The second man asks. "If I didn't know any better I'd say it's a child." Mom gets even closer to the bed to the point her body is against it and I can tell she's ready to pounce. One set of feet rush to mom at full speed picking her up off the ground. Even though I can't see her but I know she's fighting the man cause I can hear her struggling and snapping. "Check what's under the bed, it seems she's trying to hide something." The one holding mom grunts. Fear takes over me freezing me in place as the other feet run to the bed and lift it up with such ease. Looking up a tall man stares at me wide eyes with his mouth open as tears begin flowing down my face, even though I'm already against the wall I try as hard as I can to get closer to it wishing it would open up so I'd be safe from these wolf men. Setting down the bed to the side the man takes a step towards me making me whimper, he's so big he could hurt me with no trouble at all. Noticing how scared I am he looks over to his friend that is holding mom who is no longer moving but I can tell she's not dead from her moving chest and sound of steady breathing. "Alpha!" The man near me calls making me flinch at his loud tone.
