Celeste POV
The first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes was the light.
It was painfully bright.
I blinked several times, trying to make sense of the stark white walls surrounding me. The sharp, sterile smell of disinfectant filled my nose, and somewhere beside me, an irritating beep sounded over and over again.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
I turned my head slowly toward the sound.
And there he was.
Jamie.
He was slumped in a chair beside my bed, his head resting on his folded arms. His hair was a mess, and even from where I lay, I could see the dark circles beneath his eyes.
He looked exhausted.
But what caught my attention most was his hand.
His right hand was wrapped tightly around mine.
