Jamie’s POV
The nurse and doctor spent the next several minutes examining Celeste.
I stood beside her bed, watching every movement, holding my breath whenever they checked her vitals or asked her questions.
I’d spent three days terrified that I was going to lose my wife.
I wasn’t about to take anything for granted now.
Finally, the doctor smiled.
“Everything looks good. Celeste is healing as expected, and there’s no indication that the baby has been affected.”
The breath I’d been holding escaped my lungs.
The baby was okay.
Celeste was okay.
For the first time in days, I allowed myself to believe that maybe we were finally turning a corner.
The doctor explained that, providing there were no complications overnight, Celeste could go home after morning rounds.
