Lost in a strange world
My eyes slightly open and a bright light flashes through which makes them flutter. It was as though I had been unconscious for days. At first I thought I was dead, then I realized I wasn't.
Every part of my body seemed to hurt in their own different ways. My head was banging loudly and my whole body cringed with pain. I was completely oblivious to my environment and couldn't hear a thing.
In those moments, I felt more pain physically than I had felt in my entire life. Then, my eyes were opened fully. I was in a completely strange place. I wasn't sure of anything in those moments and couldn't even trust my own senses. I could see large white bulbs hanging from the ceiling of the room I was. The room was painted white and it had no windows, but it was surprisingly well ventilated. I was so scared and alone.
I was about to call for my mom, then I remembered what had happened to my parents in what felt like a dream. I began to sob loudly. I could not imagine what my life would be like without them in it.
As tears kept forming in my sad little eyes and clouds my vision, I heard the sound of a door open which I hadn't even notice before. I looked in it's direction and see a figure walk in. I clear my eyes of it's tears with the back of my hands so I can see better.
A man walks in through the door and comes towards the bed I am sleeping in. I instantly withdrew underneath my duvet and nervously shift in the opposite direction. He gets the message.
He then slows down his pace and walks gently towards me and says: "hey little girl, I'm not going to hurt you. My name is Chris, Dr. Chris. I'm here to look after you and ensure you aren't having any problems".
This was when I reluctantly pulled my duvet down to my chest level. I looked at him intently and he seemed to look like a doctor. He was wearing a white coat and had a notepad in his hands.
He feels my body temperature and asks if I was hungry. I agree with a nod and he says: "you should be hungry. You've been out for almost a whole day"....
Then again I remembered that my parents were brutally murdered only a night ago and I began to sob again.
The man says: "Little girl, you need to stop crying. You're already so pale and haven't eaten anything today. You might fall sick", showing sincere concern in his eyes.
I didn't mind what he said and just sat there crying away all the pain in my sad little heart. After a while , he stands up and says: "I'll just go get you something to eat. You need your strength", he then walks out of the room.
After a while, he comes back with a steamy bowl of noodles, seasoned with enough spice and seafood. As scared as I was of this strange man, I couldn't resist the urge to eat. My hunger trumps my fear and I jump at the bowl of food in his hands. Like a rabid animal I plowed through the bowl of food and emptied it in about 10 second. As I ate the food, Dr. Chris said nothing. He just stood there and watched me devour a bowl of noodles with a smile on his face.
When I was done, he comes nearer and pats my head, strokes my hair lightly and said: "Atta girl. Now you'll have your strength and won't fall sick".....
He packs the bowl and chopsticks I used and heads out of the room. When he had almost reached the door, he turns around and says: " I'll be coming to check on you from time to time, and I'll be the one bringing you food for a while"...
He turns around and leaves the room and I just looked up at the ceiling, criee a little as I felt lonely and fell asleep.
I was kept in this strange room for what seemed like forever and I knew nothing of the outside world. I had completely lost track of time and didn't even know when it was night or day.
I was just there in that white room, being fed and taken care of by Dr. Chris.
After a few more visits from Dr. Chris, I became free with him and started to feel safe around him.
He was the only other human being I was in contact with. I get to talk to another human being whenever he comes to check on me. Subsequently, I got used to human contact again after a while. I told Dr. Chris my name and what had happened to my parents. He was sad and told me not to cry too much.
Dr. Chris genuinely cared for me.
After a while, Dr. Chris stopped visiting. I waited and waited for the door to open and for him to walk through it, but he never came back. My food was being delivered through an opening in the door that could only be opened from outside.
There was a toilet in the room, so I didn't need to go out of my room for anything.
After waiting for what seemed like forever, my door finally opens. I am so happy and I am about to dash off my bed into Dr. Chris's arms, but I am met with a shock that sent chills down my spine.
It wasn't Dr. Chris coming inside my room. It was a lady. She was followed by two other ladies and they all looked very mean.
I quaked all over as they drew nearer to me with every step. In about five seconds, they were already in front of me, towering over my bed and the lady who seemed to be their leader said: "Kim! It's time to go"
