Seven wolves surrounded me and the vampire who looked like he was going to soil his pants. I simply just rolled my eyes at how pathetic this so-called leader was. One especially large and beautiful black wolf went behind a tree and came back as a human with shorts on. When his brown eyes met my dark blue ones, I felt something click in me. I was a pulsing emotion that resembled that of finding the missing piece of a puzzle. I raked my eyes over his body and noticed how built he was but it wasn't that that got my attention, it was the dark eyes filled with desire that startled me.
"Who are you and why are you on my land?" he growled. His husky voice made my breath hitch for a second before I replied curtly, "I am the daughter of Queen Alessia of the Raven Coven and I was chasing this vampire pest that wanted to invade my home. Which reminds me," I snapped the scared vampire's neck and the wolves around me growled in warning so I put my hands up in surrender but my face in a smirk.
I would have taken those wolves down if I wanted to but that would mean war with my coven and, frankly, I didn't think the warriors were ready for something that big as yet. I turned a bit and saw my troops waiting at the border for me with anxiety written all over their faces. "Go home! Tell mom I went into the human town for a while!" I yelled at them. They begrudgingly retreated and so I was left with a very sexy alpha and his angry pack members. I knew they knew I was human.
"Shift!" he ordered his subordinates and they, one by one, changed back into their human forms behind a tree and came back with a pair of shorts on. These were all big guys with dark and intense gazes. Maybe anyone else would have squirmed but not me, I would rather die a slow death than to be seen vulnerable, even in the slightest. They all varied in looks and shape but nonetheless held the beauty of all supernatural beings.
"You have trespassed on my land and you shall be punished regardless of what you are, mate," He spat the last word with ample distaste. The guys around me all watched me with large eyes as they realized who I was. Heck, I was also taken aback.
"How's that possible though?" I asked the vicious looking alpha. "Do not speak unless I ask you a question!!" He growled very deeply, emitting a sound shockingly close to a hiss at the end. "And don't you dare speak to me like I am one of your subordinates," I sneered. Werewolves don't hiss, they cannot hiss and judging from the speculating looks from his pack members, I had a feeling I was not wrong.
The alpha looked more or less shocked at my defiance but quickly regained his composure. He also seemed not to pay heed to his feline behavior as well. The warriors around me all looked confused; well I suppose they had the right to be. I mean I was supposed to be their luna but their alpha was planning on punishing me all the while hissing when he spoke. Something was off...
"Look, I don't want to fight anyone, let alone kill anyone so let me go and you'll never see my face again," I breathed getting irritated by the situation.
The men all around me snickered at my comment much to my irritation. "Leave? I don't think it would be that easy. I'm sure you've heard about our reputation and I think it would be a shame if it were to get dented," the alpha laughed. His laugh sounded so melodious to my ears but the condescending edge to it made me want to beat the brooding tone out of him.
"Okay then, your royal cockiness, give me a few of your warriors to fight and if I win, I get to go and if I lose, you can punish me the way you deem fit," I proposed feeling my assassin mode kick in a bit. She felt like another personality altogether like the inner wolf of a werewolf or the inner witch of a witch. She was ruthless, she was swift and she was almost evil.
He c****d his head to the side as if thinking about the pros and cons of such a proposal and finally, after a moment of silence, he committed, "Deal". I knew I wasn't going to kill anyone, even though I was an assassin, I didn't kill the innocent and so far, they were innocent enough to gain mercy, even if it was a mere sliver of it.
"Men, let's bring her to the cage," he gestured. Every one of the guys around me cheered and hooted as if it were a party of some sort.
They led me to a huge cage with bones and dried blood all over the floor as I scrunched my face in distaste towards the smell. They removed me off my weapons and shoved me into the cage. I looked around and noticed a lot of the pack members were already there waiting for me to be torn apart. Night had retired and gave way to dawn as the birds came into view.
Out of nowhere, three huge men walked into the cage shirtless. One was bald and had a scar from his forehead to his cheek, so I decided to call him 'Baldie'.
The one next to him was a dark man with tattoos all over his body and a few piercings, I dubbed him 'Michael'.
The last wasn't as big as the other two but the way he graced his steps into the cage hinted somewhat of skill in speed. Size did not matter in a fight like this; speed and agility did so I called him 'Sonic'.
"Welcome Black Vigil!" the alpha boomed as the crowd cheered. I learned his name was Jackson from one of the girls that were fangirling behind me, making me a little annoyed. Stupid mate pull. "This trespasser here dares to challenge the biggest and strongest pack in the continent. But as per an agreement, if she wins, she can leave our lands without another scratch on her," the crowd erupted in patronizing guffaws. "but if she loses, her death shall be the penalty and we shall present her head to her mother in the Raven coven!" he finished.
The crowd threw curses at me and proceeded to underestimate my ability to win the match. I ignored their chants because it would throw me off of my game and that would equal an easy fatality. "Do you have something to say, trespasser?" he mocked.
"Just get ready to open the gates when I win mate!" I spat with enough venom to turn a snake to stone, even though my chest constricted. The crowd grew silent as people whispered about whether or not I was telling the truth.
"Don't get haughty little mate. You might find yourself dead," he retorted. Him calling me his mate in front of his pack confirmed my statement for his people and made my heart flutter. Now, the crowd wasn't as rowdy as before, they were all anxious about the outcome of the fight.
Wolves cherished their leaders more than their own lives. The three men in front of me shifted a bit awkwardly as they got ready for the fight as if they did not want to fight anymore.
"Don't take it easy on me just because I'm your alpha's mate now boys," I smirked. Their faces hardened and they got into their positions waiting for the go ahead. Midnight mode kicked in almost immediately and the familiar rush of adrenaline coursed my veins and filled me with a hunger for blood but I had to restrain myself for the sake of my morals. These men had to obey their alpha's command so it wasn't really their fault. My face turned cold and hard, resulting in Sonic raising an eyebrow in apprehension.
The rules were simple, they couldn't shift and I was not allowed to use weapons or magic. It was just hand to hand combat. "Fight!" Jackson exclaimed. The big guy with the scar, Baldie, lunged for me first and I kicked his weight from under him and he fell to the floor. The crowd gasped as the ogre shook his head and got up. The other two looked like they were analyzing my techniques and possible injury spots so I leaned my weight on my left leg leaving them to assume my right was an opportunity.
They fell into my trap when their smirks were plastered on their faces. The ogre of a man charged towards me with open arms for a bear crush but I side stepped him almost mockingly.
His eyes changed colour and I knew that his wolf was coming to the surface. Someone had a short temper. The dark guy, Michael, decided to join in on the fun and started to aim for my right leg and with the same leg, I kicked him in the spectrum and he flew into the fence, landing on a pile of bones.
At this time, the crowd was tense and very conflicted on who to vouch for. I was starting to get tired by their stares when I climbed Baldie, who was trying to control his wolf, and swung my body around him as I pivoted his body to spin in the air and he landed on his head.
I knew that he wasn't dead, just going to have a monster headache when he woke up, but they didn't. Michael looked quite hurt and outraged that his friend was unconscious or dead as it may seem so he acted on that anger impulsively instead of strategically. His punches were sloppy as I dodged them but a few lucky swings got in; undoubtedly leaving a bruise or two on my face. His relentless punches seemed to tire him out and from the corner of my eye I saw Sonic run towards me. I was right to assume he was fast.
I mustered a lot of strength and threw Michael over my shoulder and moved out of the Sonic's line of attack. He stopped before he could hurt himself and helped Michael up. The two now stalked towards me as I stepped back. My back hit the fence; why didn't I think of it before? This was my forte in combat.
I climbed the fence quickly and reached the top. No, I wasn't trying to escape, I wanted to bait them. Just as I suspected, they both climbed the fence and when they were about to reach me, I jumped from the top and landed with a soft thud on the ground and tumbled to stop my momentum from crushing me.
The guys currently on the fence looked terrified from their position higher up which gave me a few seconds to buy into. They tried to make their way down but I caught Michael by his ankle and pulled his heavy body to the bottom. He landed ungracefully and struggled to get up. Because Sonic was coming for us fast, I had to end it just as quickly by picking my foot up and slamming it on his temple, satisfyingly hearing a crunch of bone. Loud gasps filled the air as I took yet another life. How hadn’t they noticed that the links weren’t broken?
Sonic was already on the bottom of the arena when I took Michael out and boy did he look livid. He used his werewolf speed to approach me and I ducked before he could do anything too serious although I winced when I felt a claw slice my chest. There was a scratch on my chest but I refused to acknowledge how big it was.
The now shining sun was the only thing that helped me finish things faster than I would have. The sun shone directly into his eyes as it reflected from the steel cage and I took that opportunity to fly kick his chest which made him fall to the ground. I punched at his face and straddled him but when I got bored, I delivered one last punch that knocked him out cold.
I looked around at the three bodies on the floor then glanced at the shocked crowd. The gates opened and as I stepped out, people made way for me as if I were to 'kill' them too. I walked in the direction of my coven and without turning back, I shouted, "Get them to the pack hospital, would you? Oh and, next time, you should pick more challenging people to bring a simple human down!"
A loud growl erupted out of nowhere and I noticed a rather large group of rogues approaching the pack. I could tell the others were antsy about it but I was excited. Finally, people I could kill. Yes I was exhausted and was running on pure adrenalin but I loved a kill when it was well deserved and in this case, it was. The rogues ran towards where I was standing and just as I took position to fight, a few pack wolves gathered beside me.
"I'm so excited I can't even keep it in," I spoke to myself but it caught the ears of the wolves beside me and they looked at me in wolfish confusion. "Oh don't look at me like that. I was restraining myself from killing your guys back there. I want to kill something now," I rolled my eyes. The rogues came closer and I was the first one to break out from the group. The first rouge leaped in the air as if to bite my head off but before it could, I reached my hand up and dug it into its chest, pulling out its heart.
I threw the heart towards the rest and turned back to the pack wolves,"Am I going to have to do this alone?" they snarled in response and charged for the other rouges. Left, right and centre I was pulling out hearts, decapitating heads, or snapping necks. The rush was what I lived for. As I pulled out the abdomen of the last rogue in the small group that came for me, I heard a soft whimper to my right.
A little boy was being pinned by a rogue so I jumped and landed on its back, snapping its neck just as the wolf opened its jaws.
"Hey there little wolf, I need you to go into your pack house and find your mommy when I say run, okay?" I said whilst taking in the three rogues that decided to come for us. He nodded his head and just when all three lunged for me, I pushed the child out of the way and shouted, "Run!" and so he did.
I cracked the skulls of the wolves that came after me and littered them all over the place until there was none left. The adrenalin in me left as soon as I saw that the threat was vanquished. And that's when I felt the tiredness from training all day yesterday as well as the fight that just happened.
I yawned and I nodded at the pack members that stayed behind to protect their pack and some surprisingly nodded back with small smiles but most just stood with their mouth agape. Jack made eye contact with me and something flashed in them. I didn't care at that moment, I just wanted to sleep. A woman came up to me with the little boy in her arms, tearing up. "Thank you so much luna for saving my son. I'm forever in debt to you," she cried. "I'm not your luna so no need to repay me any favour. Anyone else would have saved him if they could," I offered.
"Ma'am, your leg," a guy from my left said. I looked down and saw a nasty bite from the fight, "Oh well, I-that's gonna sting when I wake up." With that I submitted to the alluring darkness.
