Another first day

Diane stood outside Dunes Global head office early that morning, the building was a tall skyscraper and she stood outside looking up at the building. The weather felt cold and damp at the same time and had to wrapped a scarf around her neck to keep herself warmed up. The glassy appearance of the building created a mirage of dark shinny waters. At the distance where she stood, she tried counting the number of floors but she wasn’t able to. She looked at her golden chain wrist watch and the time was 7:40, not too bad for a first day she said to herself as she walked towards the entrance. The bus ride had been much longer than what she was use to and she had to take two different busses just to get to work. An Uber ride would have been much shorter but she was on a budget. Taking a few deep breaths Diane was able to muster up courage and went into the building. It was located at the commerce center of New York City, Manhattan. The head office of Dune Global had a total of 54 floors. The darkened glasses that made up the building made it impossible to look into the building from the exterior. As she walked into the building through the staff entrance, she was duly screened and issued new staff temporary ID card pending when her documentation with the establishment would be complete. This was possible because her name was already added to the database, this was way faster than when she started working at Great monument Bank. She was directed to the human resource department which was on the 30th floor, she walked towards the direction of the elevator. The elevator was much nicer than the one in her previous office, the company did know how to splurge money on their comfort. This elevator was way bigger than any she had ever seen, the golden shinny appearance of the walls was so eye catching and the neatness of the rails inside was so inviting that she was able to hold and rest on it. She was so engrossed with all accessories in the elevator that she almost missed her stop at the 30th floor. She quickly walked out without rubbing bodies on anybody, this non contact elevator was bliss. “Good Morning, I am here to process a transfer” Diane said to the lady sitting at the reception where the sign was boldly written , “human resources”. “Okay Good Morning , what subsidiary establishment where you transferred from” The receptionist asked as the typed it into the system hoping to draw up her profile. The receptionist was a tall brunette with dark fine eyes and a slender waist. She looked like a model from a magazine, all of the employees did look like models that walked right out of the catalog and this didn’t really sit well with her. She was of the opinion that a person’s worth should not be based on how they look and everyone should be tested equally regardless of how pretty they are. But what was the probability of getting all hot looking, i********: influencers as staff? This was rather too odd. “You could stay at the waiting room as you wait, while I get your appointment letter and contract forwarded to you to sign”. The receptionist told her while walking in front of her to give her directions to the waiting room. As she sat down in the waiting room, she kept admiring how well furnished it was and very comfortable for waiting. A thought flashed into her head at that moment, where was Estephan? Was it possible to run into the CEO of the company in an establishment that large, she didn’t think so. After about 20 minutes, the receptionist she had met earlier walked back into the waiting room. “It is ready, you can check your mail for the contract and appointment letter, I will be at my desk when you have gone through it and you are ready to append your signature” the lady said as she walked out of the waiting room. Diane opened up her mail on her phone and scrolling up to see the appointment letter. She read through it hurried to get to the part where her job title was mentioned. It read “Ambassador of Great Monument Bank to Dune Global”, what the hell was this, was it a make up title? As she read through the letter it stated that she was going to be working at the office of the CEO. That wasn’t shocking, he wanted to exercise his power and feed his ego, it wasn’t beneath him. She had too much at stake to say a loud f**k you that had been ringing in her mind and the glorious walk while storming out of the building, that she always wanted to do. That was not going to happen, her pride had to be kept in check, she had to pull through this phase of her life. The salary range was over 30% more than what she earned previously, that way she could pay up her loan faster and be free from debt much quickly. She stood up and walked up to the receptionist desk. “I am ready, where could I sign?” Diane asked. “Okay then come with me” the receptionist said and she followed her into another room still within the 30th floor. The room was so cold and nobody was present, it was just a room filled with large screen computer and other accessories attached. She watched the receptionist type in several codes into the system and saw her profile popping up on the really large screen on display. “Confirm your details and place your thumb on this section for about 3 seconds to sign your contract” the receptionist said. Technology was much more advanced at this organization as compared to her former establishment Diane thought as she placed her hand on the space that was provided. After 3 seconds, the machine peeped and the signing process was completed. She was directed to the 13th floor to report to work, the floor was heavily guarded and she kept showing her ID card at every turn. Why would the CEO’s office be at the 13th door she said to herself, weirdly odd she expected it to be much higher or at the topmost floor. Well that was his choice. She was given a brief orientation to 13 floor and taken to her desk. The desk was really small and the leg space was tight , she felt just like Tracy, all exposed to everyone who passed by . She had moved from the office with the greatest view in Great Monument bank, to a freaking desk. She promised herself to stay calm and get through the day without losing her mind or making a scene. It was working well for her so far. She sat at the desk waiting further instructions and sooner than expected it came. Nancy walked towards her desk wit a 6’ long pencil heel, Diane was so engrossed in staring at her shoes that she didn’t realize when she got so close to her. How could she walk in those things? Diane thought to herself. Nancy had always made heads turn in the office, it was majorly due to her great fashion sense and slim figure. She loved the attention it gave her and even more so she loved the look on this new Estephan’s pun just as she walked in. She had been the one to update the profile and facilitate the transfer. She wondered why Estephan will bring one of his conquests to work with him, it was strange and it didn’t sit well with her. She was use to being his office b***h, as he could call her at any office hour for a quickie just to relieve his s****l tension. She was also really good at her job and very discreet too, so that was a plus to Estephan. Nancy was sensing something strange about this new girl, she wasn’t like the kind of girls Estephan played with, they were either supermodels or young artists. The girl was an academia from the research she had done on her so what game did Estephan plan for her? She thought. “Come with me” Nancy said as she stormed out as soon as she got close enough to deliver the message. Diane stood up and adjusting her dress she walked right behind her into Estephan’s into office. Nancy walked right out as soon as she got a signal from Estephan which was a quick node. “Have a seat” Estephan said without looking at her face. “I need a total summary of all the investments the Great Monument bank was involved in either directly or indirectly. I need to know which ones are worth saving and those that can be worked on” Estephan stated . “I need them by Friday” he added “Okay” she said in a low tune it looked like she was almost murmuring. “The bank will be more open to their very own person so you were picked for the job , all the information you need could be gotten from Mr Thomson, he is more than willing to cooperate with us, do not disappoint me” he added “No I will not” Diane said with a much rather audible tune. “You may get to work” Estephan said There was no weirdness in that conversation, he might have actually hired her to do actually work for him, and not just as a vengeful act. She walked back to her desk to begin the organizing process.
