Chapter 4

LOUISA I try to struggle, but my hands are quickly subdued and held behind me. I tried to catch my breath as they forcefully lofted me off the ground and slammed me down again. I grunt. I tried to make sense of what was happening. Who were this masked man, and what do they want from me? Perhaps this is my utmost punishment from the Moon Goddess. To be beaten to death. Heavy punches and hard kicks hit my body repeatedly. These people had no mercy. They won't stop hitting me. I almost got paralysed. I begin to shift into my wolf as a means to break through, but a sharp jab of what I believe to be an injection stops that. Silver. They are injecting silver into me. My own pack, and they want to kill me. What did I do to deserve this? It's not like I wanted to kill my mother! Why is no one taking my side? Why does no one want to listen to me? And now, I am going to die for it. The silver quickly weakens me, making me limp and docile. Weak enough for them to do as they please. I couldn't see a thing as the whole place was dark. The bag over my face was so tight that I found it difficult to breathe and see through. “Quick, the rope,” a voice whispers. Rope? For wha- The thought is cut off when I feel it go over my neck, quickly tightening and cutting off my circulation. I can't breathe, I can't even struggle. I just lie there as my vision gets darker and darker until I don't even see that anymore. The last thing I hear as I leave this world is the harsh breath of my murderers as they try to strangle me. ******* “Am I dead?” “Where am I?”The first thing I hear is the walking of a woman, begging me to wake up. Followed by the low murmuring of a man and then the beeping of machines. “Just try,” the woman pleads. “Just one more time. Please. She is all I have, she can't… she can't leave now,” the woman sobs. What can it hurt?” a man asks. After a few seconds, I hear another man's voice. “Prepare for another round of defibrillation. Stand clear. Administering shock now. Resume CPR.” The next thing I feel is a sharp pain in my heart that causes me to lurch up and open my eyes. For one thing, it is unnecessarily bright. Why is it so bright? Also, where the heck is this place for goddess sake? I don't recognize this place. “She is awake! Oh my god, she is awake,” the woman cries as she throws herself at me. Ouch. I recognise her, but I can't seem to place her face. The man, too. What is happening? Where is the pack doctor? Did they find me? Did I survive? What about Trevor, my mate? Where is he? “Oh, Erica, my beautiful baby, my sweet, beautiful baby,” the woman cries as she showers kisses all over my face. Huh? Erica? What is she talking about? Who is this woman?! “How are you, baby girl? How are you feeling?” the man asks as he comes to stand by the woman. I stare at both of them as they look at me expectantly, tears in their eyes. “Who are you people?” I ask. The look on their face would be almost comical if it wasn't so worrying. The terror in their face is capable as they turn in unison to the doctor. “What is happening?” the woman asks. “What is wrong with her?” The doctor comes towards me with a flashlight and places a finger in front of me. “I need you to follow my finger, okay?” he asks as he turns on the flash light and puts it directly in my eyes while moving his finger. At first, I try to do as I am told but then quickly give up. The action hurts my head. “Please stop,” I whisper. “My head hurts.” He turns it off before turning back to the couple. “We will take her in for some scans. But it is possible she has a mild concussion. She did hit her head when she collapsed, didn't she?” “Yes! Yes, she did,” The woman agrees with a vigorous nod of her head. “Will she be alright? Is this temporary?” “Let's just have the tests first, and I will let you know.”Within minutes, I am rolled out of the room, past several hallways and into a lab. All through the journey, I try to find anything familiar. But I don't, which is weird because I know my pack clinic like the back of my hand. I volunteer to work there almost every day. What is happening here? Am I really dead? Or this is some illusion I am living in? After the test, I was rolled back into the room where I was being watched by the same woman. She kept looking at me like I had torn out her heart and ate it right in front of her. “I am really sorry that you are hurting, but I really want to know who you are,” I tell her. “Can you tell me where this is?” I ask. “Oh,,” she sobs. “My poor baby, you have suffered so much.” Not the answer I was expecting. “Can we just get right to it?” I shouted in my head Frustrated and confused. “You are in Marigold Hospital,” the man who happened to be her husband answered. Marigold, what? Isn't that the hospital in the main city? How the f**k did I end up here? “Do you remember what happened?” the man asks. “Um, I was being… strangled?” The woman burst into tears again and the thought that I should probably stop talking crosses my mind. I watch as the man walks over to comfort the woman, she turns unto his chest and buries her face in it. They must be a couple. In as much as their scene looks lovely, I was more concerned about how I landed in the town. And it definitely looks like I am being mistaken for someone else. Both of them looked familiar. I had a thing with faces. Recollecting was an issue. But I knew I had seen them somewhere before. “What happened to me, please?” I ask instead. At least I cold get some ideas of what is really happening. We were having dinner and you heard your phone ring,” the man says. “You left the table in a hurry and rushed up the stairs, ignoring our warning to slow down,” she began “You… you collapsed on your way down, knocking your head in the process. Your mother and I were beside ourselves with terror.” Yeah, that doesn't ring a damn bell. Definitely not me. Nope. That is not what happened at all. Again, what is going on here?! “May I use the restroom?” I ask. I need to get away from them. I need to get back to my pack and report the fact that someone tried to kill me. And then find the person that saved me. “Sure,” the woman says. “I will help you with it.” She hurries over to me and carefully helps me out of the bed and towards the bathroom. “I can go in by myself,” I tell her. “Are you sure? How is your heart? Does it hurt?” My heart? What a weird question. “I'm okay. My heart is okay,” I say as I head in. I look around the bathroom searching for a window big enough to let me escape. In my perusal, my eyes are caught by something weird in the mirror. Carefully, I walk towards it and there in front of me is the image of my newly found friend. The same girl who saved me from being attacked by a vampire wolf. Erica Snow. Wait- what? How is this possible? What manner of mystery is this? …….
