Chapter 3

LOUISA “What did I just read?” “This can't be happening!!” What did I do wrong? Did I not kiss him well? Was it the s*x? Did he not enjoy it? It can't be that. He ought to have mentioned. “Or wasn't that Trevor I met last night? The sweet young man of my dreams?” I questioned myself. My hands were shaking terribly, and tears rolled down my cheeks concurrently. “Trevor can't do this to me. Today is my day of marriage,” I cried out. How could he suddenly reject me after everything? “All the promises he made to me last night, was that all an act so he could have s*x with me?” “So he could have access to my body!?” I wept bitterly. No… My wolf was saddened, and my emotions went from top to zero that very moment. “I won't accept it. This must be a mistake,” I voiced out. I refused to believe the letter was for me. I stood up immediately and raced down the hills, back to the house. My eyes darted around the pack house looking for Trevor. He couldn't have gone, or perhaps he's with my father. My heart kept beating as I looked everywhere for him. I stumbled upon Lucy, who stood at the entrance like she was expecting me to come in that minute. She kept tapping her feet on the ground and mumbling words I couldn't make sense of. The look on her face. I know that look. It was one she gave before getting the punishment of my life. A heavy slap suddenly hit my face. I froze. “And where the heck are you coming from?” She spoke harshly. “You unfortunate wolf, where the heck did you wander off to?” “Definitely not where I sent you!” She added. Her eyes were full of rage, and I could tell how soon she wanted to jump at me with another hard slap. “Uhmn…I….I…..was……” I stuttered. “I was attacked,” I mumbled, trying to explain to her what happened the previous day. But just like I expected, she wasn't ready to listen. She pulled my hair so tight and gave me another slap. “Attacked?! Another lie you expect me to believe or what? Is that what you have rehearsed to say to me, or what is this?” The resounding hit threw me to the ground. Right on that spot, I held my face, and a tear dropped from my eye. “Get up on your feet this instant,” she shouted. “Please..Lucy,” I begged. “I'm saying the truth. I was attacked and….” “Just shut it, you miserable thing!” “If only she knew my ordeal the previous night up to this morning!” “If only she knew my mate had just called off our marriage, maybe she won't talk like this to me.” “You slut!” She lashed out again. Why did she use that word, I had no idea but it got me bitter and I laid still on the ground. I couldn't say a word lest I was ready for more slaps and possible punches to the face. My cheeks became swollen amd my eyes began to ache. There was absolutely nothing I could do again to convince her. Going through the pain Trevor had just caused me and now Lucy, I do not have any strength left in me to protest. I laid weakly on the ground, my eyes to the ground like I just wanted to give up the ghost. The paper in my hands slipped away to her feet and she picked it up to read. A loud laughter escaped our mouth. “So this is what happened?” “Ooooh…what a pity. I just knew he wouldn't want to end up with a nobody like you!” She voiced out. “Just look at you..I knew right from time, there was a curse on you and you used that to chase your mate away!” “No wonder your mother left you to the heavens the instance she gave birth to you, she knew nothing good could come out of you!” Lucy cursed. She laughed out again. “Serves you right,” she kicked me, hissed and walked away. Why? Why is this happening to me? Was Lucy right? Maybe truly I'm a curse and nothing good was ever meant for me. I cried out loud, drawing the attention of my stepsisters. I don't want to be here. Not anymore. I struggled to get on my feet and ran off into the woods. I could hear the voice of my stepsister as they called out my name but I ignored them. My life is nothing but bad news. I kept running into the woods till I dash my foot against a stone and fell to the ground flat. I groaned in pain. I couldn't help but replay the words in the letter. How I felt last night and suddenly my joy was snatched away by what I do not know. My throat became sore and my lungs, weak yet I kept waiting. “Who exactly did I offend?” “Co-uld this be real……? Did I just lose my mate? I stuttered. “Maybe I am not destined to have a mate?” I looked up to the skies as I wiped my tears off with my hands. “Moon Goddess, come to my aid!” “I beg of you. I don't know what else to do.” “My mate has rejected and deserted me.” “Please…Moon Goddess, do something about this else I will rid myself from this wicked world I am trapped in,” I screamed in agony. The silence afterwards drove me to cry the more as I anticipated an answer….. Suddenly, I heard rushing footsteps from within the woods. I didn't even think it was anything not until I saw figures coming out of the woods from all over. I paused. Who are these people? They were all masked and had this very strange wild scent. “She's the one. Take her,” I heard one of them say. Take me? Why? Before I could defend myself, they surrounded me and one of them hit me on the face. I spilled blood and the next thing I saw was a dark hood cover my face. I screamed but no one could hear me. ……….
